Max posted this thread after I went to bed.
Next surgery is on November 4. Hopefully it works this time.
-
My eye surgery is Oct. 30, I hope it works also. It's quite a bit less serious than the heart thing.
-
I couldn't hang with USC either, Rutgers

We are going to another costume party today, so no cooking for me. I think we are going to a streakhouse. Jeff Ruby's?
-
We probably will stroll through the local "farmer's market", which isn't really that very much, but is fun, have brunch somewhere, and return to take a nap. One of the two local Persian restaurants does an excellent brunch with outdoor seating on a side street. It can get a tad pricey depending.
Obviously, dining out is pricier than it once was, duh.
-
I'm so very much not into Halloween. Not at all.
Been that way my whole life. I just never got it.
-
Last night, my wife said she was too tired to cook, as was I, so we walked next door to the local tavern. We sat outside, it was a nice evening. They were hosting a pub crawl complete with H'ween outfits, which were somewhat interesting. My wife loved it, she was taking photos of most of them who would pose. They were all 20-somethings, some of the ladies were a bit risque in their outfits. We had a nice dinner and pitcher of Sweetwater and had some fun with the attendees strolling by.
In our building, we have had some 1-2 year old kids come by, only after we sign up for the visit, and that's kind of cute. On the whole, it has been by far my least favorite "holiday". When my kids went to college, I'd leave the lights out as a sign I wasn't participating. That worked.
For the 20-somethings above, it looked like a bit of harmless fun. One guy dressed as "Macho Man", I had to explain to my wife what most of the costumes were about. Some of the gals dressed as "nurses", of a certain kind.
-
We don't have any kids in Burnt Store Marina.
We buy some candy. After 10/31, when it's on sale.
-
I'm so very much not into Halloween. Not at all.
Been that way my whole life. I just never got it.
Free candy from strangers. Thrill of a lifetime for kids.
-
Halloween is the best one.
-
Some of the gals dressed as "nurses", of a certain kind.
Would you describe them as naughty nurses?
-
If folks have fun with it, fine with me. I'm glad to be insulated from it. My wife seems to enjoy aspects of it. I don't think we signed up for any visits this time around. We don't have many young kids in the building, or kids of any age below 20. There are a few couples, 3-4?, with little ones. They usually have a 2 bedroom unit and outgrow it with kid 2. I see quite a few young couples with kids, and a dog, who live in apartments (probably) in the area. Nearly everyone out and about has a dog, but perhaps those with no dog aren't as much out and about.
This is a very young area on average. Well, very young to me means under 40. Kids. And supposedly a lot of gays, but I don't notice them.
-
Halloween is the best one.
Objectively the best holiday. Kids love it, scary movies, naughty nurses. Something for everyone.
-
Anyone think Illinois has a shot in Oregon today? That's a tough ask. Maybe Illinois can beat them up a bit?
Next week *ucks play at Michigan. Then they get Maryland at home, followed by a trip to Madison. They finish with a home game against Washington, after an idle week.

small town volunteer fire dept having their annual pancake breakfast this morning
I'll eat bacon, sausage, eggs, and hashbrowns - not pancakes

a few beers along the way

same-same 👍,never been a pancake guy. Will have them but only with actual maple syrup that isn't refined and found easily in these parts. Gonna listen to 'Skers/Buckeyes with Paul Keels and Jim Lachey calling the game on tOSU Football Network - got leaves to rake.Beer later when the fur flies with MSU/UM or UW/PSU

Check out Chatham Twp in March, real Maple 🍁 Syrup. Very good
-
I like a good pancake fried in butter with some extra butter. But like, one. I don't like syrup on them and the traditional way of serving a stack of pancakes drowned in syrup isn't for me.
-
Last night we did happy hour at the wine bar on the lake, and then came home and I cooked cacio e pepe. I screwed it up and didn't have enough water to emulsify the sauce. Dumb mistake.
Tonight we're doing virtual happy hour with our friends that moved to NC, then grilling a rack of lamb and serving it with a Greek salad.
Getting ready for my BIL to visit from Mon to Weds morning. He and his family are talking about moving back here from San Antonio, and he's got a 3rd(?) interview with a fire department here. He's the one that's the former SEAL and former firefighter, so think he's got a good shot at it. Trying to buy a house here now is going to be a hell of a shock since they haven't lived here since before I met my wife...
-
Getting really sick and tired of this IU love-fest.

When was last time GameDay was on campus for a BTN televised game?

Never?

Watching this picks segment w my 15yr old. So many questions, relentless.
Where is that school, are they good, who is that, when did they last win, what conrlference.. I thought.

Yeah, I'm good at like 2 pancakes. College-age me could just motor through stacks on stacks on stacks of whatever you put in front of me. But that idea mortifies me now.
-
When was last time GameDay was on campus for a BTN televised game?
Those do not a venn diagram make.

IMO the 'Skers will playing much better than last week end and for redemption. And perhaps tOSU will want to stick Rioala's nose in it. Hope it's a good one

Ya I was gonna bring that up a bit sloppy in your prep work - unlike you. But did you eat it proper over the sink as the uppity fooks such as myself do?

Yeah going from a first round draft pick at left tackle to uh, very much not that, is a huge hit

That’s a ridiculous reversal.

Gorgeous day for football in Bloomington. Hoosiers just pick-sixed Washington, who was driving inside Indiana's 30. IU up 7-0.

Halloween is the best one.
I put up Halloween decorations after Labor Day - just a few items to decorate my kitchen counters. Minimal, yes, but take note - I have a living Halloween decoration homesteading my place year-round:

Nah, not a prep work problem. With cacio e pepe you cook the pasta in just barely enough water to cook it so that the pasta water is very starchy, which emulsifies the sauce. (Need good pasta for this BTW, boxed Barilla doesn't work.) You pour off and reserve any excess pasta water in case you need to re-add it as you build the sauce. My issue was that when trying to pour off the excess, there wasn't really enough to even pour it into a measuring cup.
To which I thought "oh, that's perfect, I didn't use too much water" when I should have thought "I'd better use the faucet and get a little more water ready to make sure I've got SOMETHING if this seizes on me."

It's a gorgeous fall day here in MSP. Heading down to campus a little later for the Gopher game.
But more importantly, today we got Cedar and brought him back to his fur-ever home.
Don't worry, plenty of pictures forthcoming.

How about Nebraska? And Penn State?l. Lol

Please say it's not so,can't be right?
Now I'm officially underwhelmed with Day,year 6 and his lines have been and still are standard meh and not ready for prime time back ups. URBZ teams were deep. Only Day spending the Schools coin has kept his teams in the conversation. He hasn't developed shyt where the game is won/loss.I'd call for the movers/shakers to start looking - no excuses
-
Please say it's not so,can't be right?
it's so right
-
Is this the same team that Indiana obliterated last week?
-
Hoosiers might be pretty good
-
seem to have the FG kicking game fixed
-
year 6 of Day's designs is making the 'Skers look like Lombardi's Packers. If I was at the game I'd rip that cheese dick's beard off that face. This is what 10.3 million a year and 2 weeks off get's you - gosh I'll pass the hat around for tips
-
Oh boy they showed up for once in the half. Chuck the damn rock deep - send the roster

That was actual OPI

Chill Nubbz. You know Ohio State going to win the game right?
I like to make fun of Day and Ohio State but seriously look at his overall record. Insanely good. You fire him who you gonna go get that’s better?
-
Okay, now I'm actually starting to get a little worried about the Hoosiers.
They might actually be legit….which is shocking. I’d like to hire their HC in a couple years if Sherrone Moore doesn’t find a QB and get his shit together.

Bucks O-line looks like Husker O-line
maybe worse

31-14 Hoosiers with under 9 left in the game

Feel like Ohio State hasn’t had truly elite OL’s since Urbz. Day having an OL this bad is a head scratcher but they are dealing with injury so.

31-14 Hoosiers with under 9 left in the game
And they are playing their backup QB….
how do they have 2 QB’s but Michigan ain’t even got one? Got damn.

might want to inform UNL same fair averageness that day dream keeps stringing out as he's paid St Nick's money.Lots of smoke that Larry Johnson is not letting knowles make alignments or substitutes on the D-Line.If so DAY is robbing the program and needs to grow a pair and over rule that. And 'Skers moving the sticks

I guess Ohio state isn’t allowed to get flagged for holding or PI on defense because that’s the third blatant one not called.
-
Got into the New Brickhouse early today.
Should be a handy Gopher win, but this is the sort of game that they've spat the bit on during PJ'S tenure here.
-
Welp who is the third string left tackle
-
Targeting good call,up on further review I dunno solid hit

gotta be targeting

no head contact what is a player suppose to do not hit them??? Solid hit

Oregon. PSU may be 2nd.

That’s one of those weird games for Nebraska where it is, relative to expectations, a pretty good performance and it just makes you feel like shit.
And if you’re a buckeye fan, it really makes you feel like shit.
-

I don't buy it. They still haven't had that difficult of a schedule. I don't think they could take Oregon, OSU, or PSU. (And yes, I know they just whupped Nebraska a hell of a lot worse than OSU did.)
At some point talent matters.

Yes. Losing both the starting and then back up Left tackle has really hurt. I think Penn State smokes then next week.

21-0 Gophers
This Maryland team stinks.
-
Vandy up early on Texas, 7-0.
-
Iowa has 5 points.
Because if there's ever a team in this world that has 5 points at some point in a game, it's going to be Iowa.
-
And I know someone's going to bring up the infamous Iowa / Penn State 6-4 tilt.
If there's any team that's likely to have an opponent finish a game with 4 points... It's also Iowa.
-
Iowa fan so jealous of Auburn/Miss St 3-2 game.
-
Upset brewing in Nashville. Texas leads 14-7.
-
Upset brewing in Nashville. Texas leads 14-7.
I don't think Vandy was favored....
-
Arkansas' QB flashes Vince Young plays sometimes. A 6'6" athlete video game QB. But lacks the talent around him to put up VY numbers.
-
I feel a lot better about this one at 41-10.
I can't figure this OL out. They can't get any push on the run game, but they've been nails in pass protection, and as such Brosmer has cut the Maryland secondary to pieces.
Add in a bunch of Terp penalties, and this is what you get.
-
In the spirit of @MaximumSam (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=1572) and his thread title, I think it's about time to start drinking and celebrate that Purdue didn't lose today!

IU's conference foes are 7-11 in conference games, taking out their losses vs IU. All of them are below .500 in-conference.
I think a wait-and-see is prudent here.

Cal 44-0 over the Beavs
Texas up 24-17 with 8 minutes left

Fire the entire Michigan staff please. It’s the same crap every week, every possession. Run the ball up the middle on first and second down and on 3rd and long make your ridiculously mediocre qb try to make a play when the defense knows what’s coming. It’s literally disgusting.

Kirk Campbell absolutely sucks and does not belong being an OC at this level....having said that...Michigan's QB's literally SUCK and the WR's are just average. I think these WR's would be fine and serviceable with an elite QB considering the RB's and TE's they have- but without a QB they ain't doing shite. At WR they don't have a Breaston or Manningham that can make a big play let alone a true STAR like Braylon....those type of dudes can bail a bad QB out here and there or flat out just make a huge play on their own. They simply put don't have anything close to that at WR PLUS they have a dogshit QB's....so yikes.

How can we even say receivers have no talent. Play calling is absurd and qb play is a joke. Makari Paige being on the field makes me vomit. He’s terrible in coverage and already has 3 missed tackles today.
this team is soft, no discipline and play calling is horrible. The stupid play where they fake run mullings to the left in the back field and then give it to Donovan to run up the middle and he gets destroyed one more time I'm gonna flip. No one is fooled and you're losing a blocker just trying to fool people with mullings running to the sideline. It's beyond stupid.

this one is shocking, he was a very good player the past two years. now he flat out sucks.
-
Donovan Edwards is the best QB on the team. Too bad he plays RB. Very inconsistently.
-
needless to say the passing offense is a very different one with a healthy Colston Loveland. He's literally the only threat on the entire offense in the passing game that anyone has to worry about.

Wink Martindale's run defense is ass.

Wink Martindale should put a shotgun in his mouth and pull the trigger. JFC what a dogshit DC that fat old wrinkly washed up fuck is.

Don’t like the network announcers? Here’s how to sync the Huskers’ radio call with the TV broadcast.
Don't like the network announcers? Follow Dave Feit's guide.
I do not like Gus Johnson.
The over-the-top fawning for the higher ranked team. The unnecessary "oh-vah ex-agg-uh-ray-shuns" of every word. And most of all, his INCESSENT SHOUTING for any throw that goes more than eight yards, regardless of if it is caught.
Husker fans, I know there are announcers that you don't like as well.
Or maybe you just prefer to listen to the talented stable of announcers that the Husker Radio Network employs. Greg Sharpe and Damon Benning, Kent Pavelka and Jake Muhleisen, John Baylor and Lauren West, Matt Coatney and Jeff Griesch, Sharpe and Ben McLaughlin, and Nate Rohr make up a ridiculously talented lineup where everybody is entertaining and informative.
Back in the pre-internet days, syncing up the Huskers radio audio with a TV broadcast was simple: mute the TV, tune in KFAB (or your local affiliate) on the radio, and let Pavelka and Gary Sadlemyer bring you the action from Lincoln, Ames, or Stillwater.
Today, the task seems harder. Most "live" sporting events on TV have a delay that puts the broadcast behind the radio call. If you stream games, there is usually an additional delay.
With my current setup for Fox and BTN games (streaming the Fox Sports app on a Roku), I'm usually 30-90 seconds behind what's happening in the stadium. If I turn the radio on, what I'm hearing will be one or two plays ahead of what I'm seeing. No thank you.
But friends, there is a better way. And it is easy enough the most technically unsavvy of fans (i.e. our parents) can do it.
Here's how to sync the Huskers radio broadcast audio to your TV:
Minimum requirements:
A TV with access to the network or channel broadcasting the game. If you're watching the game, you already have this.
A mobile device (such as a smartphone or tablet) that is connected to the internet (via Wi-Fi or your cellular provider). More than likely, you have this too.
The Huskers mobile app downloaded onto that device. The app is free and available on the Apple App Store or Google Play.
The basic steps:
On your TV, turn on the game. Mute the TV's audio.
On your mobile device, open the Huskers app.
In the app, find the audio for the Huskers event you want to listen to. This will typically be on the Home or Audio tab.
Press the Play button for the radio audio.
Listen to a few seconds of game action, and press the Pause button on the Huskers app.
When you see what you just heard, press Play, and you'll be ready to go.

I do that with the OSU radio broadcast, mostly because the soundproof headphones prevent people from talking my ear off during the game.
-
I thought Wisconsin was going to have to deliver some “better than their talent“ plays to pull off a win in that one. They didn’t, and instead to a somewhat game-shifting interception.
also, the inability to stop a team from driving on you like that is somewhat concerning.
-
Wish the Blackshirts could have stopped one drive - Bucks only had one drive but, it was in the 4th quarter and a game winner

Between that and a phantom hold on a big return play, yep. They were toast with those two plays.

Just curious where the hell are you watching the games?

Rhule got stoopid going for the 4th & goal, just discussed leaving EARLY pts on the field after last weeks games.Bad calls all around but the 2nd Qtr 1st down call by a yard - not even close, not sure about the OPI gonna rewatch that. The Raiola run was clearly and o-lineman shoved an OSU lineman down
-
the next time he went on the goalline the same play worked perfectly
kids gotta execute
RB gotta go farther to the right over the DT that was playing lead fullback
like he did the 2nd time
it's the right call in the 2nd quarter, gotta figure tOSU is gonna score 21 or more at home
Bad calls all around and I fully expect the Big Ten to protect the #4 Bucks and their chance at a playoff spot - especially in the Shoe

Ya but that was for 2 not 6,and the PK was money yesterday.FWIW even the home boards were accusing the refs of sourcery.Except for the targeting that was bang-bang and a shoulder hit
-
It was a catch, and it was targeting. The refs tried really hard to not call either.
And Day's beard should have gotten a 15 yarder.

Watched that in slow mo online. Forearm to the shoulder.
They are so inconsistent with targeting.
But the Huskers got both calls. The targeting and the catch that should have never been granted. They got both. So- enough of complaining.

forearm may have hit the shoulder slightly before the shoulder pad hit the facemask
the forearm isn't in question
forceable contact with the shoulder pad to the head is the rule breaker here - targeting
Huskers didn't want the catch called because, then it's a fumble
-
I watched the same thing, and I have no dog in the fight. I agreed with the calls and the lack of one.
Announcers agreed, which I found to be interesting.
The "expert" agreed.
Despite that, I really don't care in the grand scheme. It has zero effect on my rooting interests.
I do hope OSU can kick the shit out of PSU. Not a huge fan of the bearded one. I just despise James Franklin that much.

Not much chance of that. The OSU o- line, which looked as good as it has in years, has completely discombobulated after they lost the LT in Oregon.
it shows just how integrated a line is. It’s like a car with 3 good tires but one flat.

Is he out for the season?
-
Is he out for the season?
Yes. He was getting 1st round projections. And his backup was a turnstile yesterday, and then he went down.
Nebraska toyed with the Buckeye line all day- kept going after that spot. The others tried to help out which just opened holes in other places. Credit to the Blackshirts. They played their asses off.
But the Penn State D-Line is elite. Abdul Carter is going to kill them.

No it was football not targeting - bang bang shoulder was hit not neck or head. Husker player immediately started chasing for the ball

Water under the bridge. It was what it was and the Buckeyes won. Who cares.

Carter didn't do much yesterday, surprisingly enough. PSU had no sacks. But Wisconsin had no offense, and it was only on the field for 25 minutes.
-
I thought they were a little generous calling him a defenseless player. If he caught the ball and lowered his head to protect himself, then how was it a catch and fumble?
-
But the Penn State D-Line is elite. Abdul Carter is going to kill them.
HA! Carter will be indicted for murder next week unless something changes. It's amazing how much better the Vest or Urbz was at procuring and developing lineman. Without the portal or NIL, we have no depth at O-line because of poor coaching, recruiting and too many whiffs in the portal.D-Line is better but by no means complete.Tired of hearing Day is “Fixing it.” It seems to need fixing all year. This feels a lot like last year but worse just waiting for it all to come together - but it doesn’t

Well there were crap calls that just wasn't one of them

True. But there is no debate he was OSUs best line player, and for as good as their depth is- that is the position where depth was a serious issue.

I think every favorite in the ranked top 25 won yesterday. I'm a bit sorry Vandy will drop out.

The black and white motif was fine, but I wish A&M and LSU just wore their ordinary uniforms. It's a great look vs each other.

I wish ______ and ______ just wore their uniforms.
Uniformity of uniforms, I reckon.
Badgers wore all red last night. I hate that.
Red tops, white bottoms. All white on the road. Done.
-
I don't get too excited about uniform styles or changes. I don't worry personally much about what I wear either beyond comfort, I usually pick whatever is on top.
Sometimes my wife sends me back.

I don't mind it every once in a while, if you stick to the primary color scheme/and or logos.
If Texas A&M had done all black, but with the normal logo, I'd be fine. Or if they had worn the script Aggies, but in maroon and white. Not a fan of flipping both. Definitely not a fan of going outside the color scheme, like when MSU went through a 3 year phase of incorporating bronze into the color scheme

Did you love the lime green era?
-
Nobody did
-
My apartment in grad school was "lime green", with green shag carpet. Thinking back, it was pretty hideous, but it was pretty cheap, and had a bedroom and small kitchen.
Of the issues I had at the time, that was low on any list. I recall I had a 13" color TV with a rotary dial that was kind of high end for the time. It was $135 a month.
My wife sent me an article before we redid our kitchen in Cincy about stainless being "out". I ignored it, stainless is still pretty much the thing, I think.

Lime green certainly had its day. We moved into our house in 1988 and the first thing my parents did was gut the lime green kitchen with plaid carpeting
-
There also was that off gold color at the time. If you go back further, most kitchen appliances were just white. Washers and dryers were white. You could have any color you wanted so long as it was white. Back further, there were hardly any dryers of course.
We replaced a perfectly good stove here with an induction stove, which we both love. The old stove went to one of the workers' mom's place which he was redoing.
My old apartment complex had a washer/dryer room down the bill a bit, that was a pain. I recall using Bold laundry detergent because it got rid of static.

It wasn't a hit to the facemask just because you repeat it.Look up from a putt and type in youtube

My wife is pretty flexible unless we're going to some event or meeting. Then she wants me to look ... "nice". We're in an advisory council for example and she thinks I should dress up some. OK then. I generally dress up some if we head to a nicer restaurant.

i just hate the apologies afterward as it means nothing
they will still screw games up with lack of testicles to do the right thing

oops
sorry
perhaps some folks should be fired
a little motivation

This is precisely why I'm delighted the Texas student section pitched a fit last week and forced the idiot officials to correct their horrible call. Because otherwise it's just a useless apology afterward.
That reversal to the correct call, enabled the Longhorns to score a well-earned TD and make it a 1-score game with an entire quarter left to play. Ultimately Georgia scored again to ice the game, but if that horribly incorrect call had been allowed to stand, the game's immediately over and it might have ended up a bloodbath instead of a tough but recoverable loss.
-
There should be consequences for egregiously bad calls. There should be a lot of things in life that aren't.
People should be smarter.

Big Ten reversed the controversial targeting call, so Arvell Reese can play the whole PSU game
Sorry, but i think that's ridiculous. Although the rule isn't perfect and I still don't understand how it went from incomplete to targeting and complete, but targeting should be in place to protect against hits to the head and neck. Reese went high and followed through high. May not have been helmet to helmet, but shoulder and arm to helmet, but he forcefully went at the helmet and followed through excessively at the helmet.
I don't think it was a dirty play and I think there should be levels of targeting.. Like dirty, you're ejected and miss a game.. not dirty, but clearly a lapse of judgment like this and definitely a high hit and you're tagged with 15 years and maybe done for this specific game. But to have this happen, go to review and it's determined it's targeting, just to come back the next day and have it reversed is a beyond stupid system.

I understand that. Though as a rules nerd I wouldn't mind an explanation. Per the OSU statement the B1G said they asked the NCAA for a ruling or determination. I thought they were a little generous to say he was a defenseless player since they also said he caught the ball and he clearly sees the hit coming and adjusts his body for it. Or they could say he didn't really make forcible contact to his head or neck. The reverse angle makes it look like he aiming at his shoulder.

That's football not targeting,It is a stupid system the reviews should be made in the booth not the sidelines - this is easily remedied.

Well it was Texas and everything's bigger there including the debris field :)
-

Completely agree with everything you said and most specifically this. I didn't think he was defenseless, but i also don't want to see force and follow through up high. A deeper explanation would have helped a lot in multiple ways, including the fumble/incomplete/catch. I think that's the worst part is not having clear guidance.
-

They cleaned it up incredibly quickly. All the cheerleaders and dance team and other folks on the sideline jumped in there, and it was gone in under 2 minutes. I was pretty impressed.
Heck, even Matthew McConaghy was picking up water bottles.

I like how announcers now have a "rules expert" somewhere they call on when something happens.

a retired referee
more of an expert than most experts in other fields I'd guess
