Title: Which teams have really good wins?
Post by: Cincydawg on October 21, 2024, 11:16:56 AM
And which top teams have some really ugly losses?

I don't know if this tells us much at this point, I'm just curious.

Bama has a good win over UGA, and a pretty ugly loss at Vandy.
Tenn has a pretty good win over Bama.
Oregon has a nice home win over Ohio State.
UGA beat Clemson and Texas "on the road" and lost to Bama.

ND has a win over A&M.
PSU has a win over USC who beat LSU and had a bunch of close losses.
Vandy has a home win over Bama and maybe texas.

Hey now.  Vandy is 5-2.  They've actually looked pretty decent this year and are currently 7th in the SEC.  If they hadn't blown the OT game @ Missouri, there is a decent chance they would have been ranked this week.
Granted, they still have Texas, LSU and Tennessee, so it's probably going to go to heck quickly, but for the moment....

Vandy is ranked 25th in both polls, probably for the first time in 248 months.

They historically have had Texas' number, and it's in Nashville, a tough venue.  Sort of.

A&M has a big win over Mizzou also.  And that loss to ND, who lost to NIU.

All kind of the eye test, right?

First, wins at the top of the table:
Georgia has a good win over Texas and a good win over Clemson.
Alabama has a good win over Georgia.
Oregon has a good win over Ohio State.
Arkansas has a good win over Tennessee.
USC has a good win over LSU.
Notre Dame has a good win over aTm.
LSU over Ole Miss? Probably.

Then wins that surprise the viewer because of who the teams are (and, conversely, the losses):
NIU over ND is an obvious one.
Vandy over Alabama.
Does Tennessee's win over Alabama go here or in the category above just because of what Alabama has meant to CFB recently? Either way, that's a really good win.
Minnesota and Maryland each beating USC? I think that qualifies, even if USC turns out not to be that good. We don't speak of Minnesota and Maryland in the same breath as USC, so those are really good wins. Whereas Penn State's win over USC is less impressive because it's Penn State, not Minnesota or Maryland.
Does Illinois over Michigan count?
What about Iowa State over Iowa?
Kentucky over Ole Miss?
BYU's beat down of K-State looks pretty solid.

I don't think aTm over Missouri counts because Mizzou might not be all that and a bag of chips.
Same with any win over Nebraska, no matter how Indiana Indiana might be.
Nebraska over Colorado looks fun because of the history, but isn't really all that interesting in the current environment.

Honestly, Wisconsin's beat down at the hands of USC looks pretty bad right at the moment...

There may also be an historical component to this question, a la, Duke over FSU.  It's a good win for Duke.

Please,  USC should be nowhere in this discussion.  They are 1-4 in the Big Ten with 2 of the losses to MD and Minn.  They will probably finish 3-6 in conference and 5-7  overall.

Just pull up a list of the best teams and see who their losses are. They can’t have that many losses or else they wouldn’t be good teams.

I'd guess the Hoosier win 2 of 3 but wouldn't say it's probable

The only game Indiana won't be a favorite in the rest of the way will be Ohio State.
