Oregon has moved to #1 for only the ninth time in school history. The previous eight were:
- 7 consecutive polls in 2010 from 10/17 through 11/28. That year they ascended to #1 because the previous #1 lost at Wisconsin and lost the #1 spot when #2 Auburn blew out USCe in the SECCG while Oregon was beating unranked OrSU.
- 1 poll in 2012, the 11/11/2012 poll. They ascended to #1 because the previous #1 lost at aTm and only held it for one week before losing at Stanford.
Oregon's nine appearances at #1 moves them into a tie with Auburn for 23rd all-time. If they hold it next week they'll be 23rd alone and if they hold it another week they'll move into a tie with Iowa for 22nd all-time.
Ohio State is gaining on the field in top-5 appearances because they are the only team in the top-8 in all-time top-5 appearances to currently be in the top-5.
Ohio State is also gaining on the field in top-10 appearances. The Buckeyes are #1 in top-10 appearances with 710 and the next best all-time to be in the current top-10 is Texas which is 8th all-time with 476.

does it always have to be about Ohio St?
can't you just give the other OSU a post about #1 w/o the buckeye stuff???

LoL.
Well, they are:
- #1 in total appearances with 991 (79.8% of the 1,242 polls), 64 ahead of #2 Michigan.
- #1 in top-10 appearances with 710 (57.2% of polls), 75 ahead of #2 Bama.
- #2 in top-5 appearances with 441 (35.5% of polls), 22 behind #1 Bama and 10 ahead of #3 Oklahoma.
- #2 in #1 appearances with 105 (8.5% of polls), 36 behind #1 Bama and four ahead of #3 Oklahoma.
They are my team, but they'd be heavily involved in these discussions regardless.

I like these discussions cause my team has some cred after the past few decades and reminds me of the good ol daze

It's a neat way to "measure programs", and Bama and OSU seem to be 1-2 in some order ahead of everyone else.
Bama might be another loss from being unranked, which I think would be a first in a while.

It would be the first in a LONG while. Bama was last unranked in the 2007 Final Poll. They've been ranked in all 270 polls from the 2008 preseason poll through the current poll, in that timeframe:
- 270 Bama, 100%
- 255 Ohio State, 94.4%
- 244 Oklahoma, 90.4%
- 220 LSU, 81.5%
- 213 Oregon, 78.9%
- 212 Georgia, 78.5%
- 201 Clemson, 74.4%
- 175 Notre Dame, 64.8%
- 175 OkSU, 64.8%
- 173 Michigan, 64.1%
Speaking of the devil, the Wolverines just dropped out for the first time since 2021. That ends a streak of 54 straight appearances, Michigan's 6th longest streak.
Currently active streaks:
- 270 Bama
- 123 Georgia
- 71 Ohio State
- 39 Oregon
- 39 Penn State
- 33 LSU
- 31 Notre Dame
- 29 Texas
- 25 Ole Miss
- 18 Mizzou
Since I know @FearlessF (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=10) will like this:
Alabama's current streak of 270 appearances is the second longest of all-time. They would need 78 more to catch Nebraska's 348 straight appearances from 1981-2002.
Where the currently active streaks stand on the all-time list:
- 270 Bama is #2 all-time.
- 123 Georgia is #13 all-time.
- 71 Ohio State is #52 all time.
Also, Ohio State's current streak would be considerably longer but for COVID. The Buckeyes have only missed two polls since 2011. The two that they missed were the polls from September 13 and September 20 of 2020. The Buckeyes were #2 in the preseason that year then dropped out due to the B1G's COVID policies then jumped back in at #6 on September 27, 2020.
If the B1G had been eligible those two weeks, tOSU's current streak would be 205 which would be #2 currently and #5 all-time.

81 was my freshman year
dropped out after starting 1-2
season opening loss to Iowa and then the loss at home to PSU
was out of the top 20 for 2 weeks
Osborne nearly run out of town
would be one helluva streak if not for Hayden's hawks in Kinnick - rose bowl team
lost 7-10

It is one helluva streak anyway! That said, I didn't realize how close it was to being substantially longer:
- Nebraska's 2nd longest streak was 112 appearances from 1969-1977
- Nebraska's 3rd longest streak was 62 appearances from 1977-1981
Here is how close it was:
- Nebraska jumped in at #20 (it was only 20 teams back then) in the November 3, 1969 Poll. They were then in 112 consecutive polls through the 1977 preseason Poll where they were #15. They lost their opener to Washington State (at home no less) and thus missed the 9/12/77 Poll. The very next week they beat #4 Alabama and jumped back in. What makes this completely inexplicable is that WSU sucked in 1977 and Bama finished 11-1.
- The Cornhuskers jumped back in after the aforementioned win over Bama in the 9/19/77 Poll and remained ranked for 62 consecutive polls through the 9/21/81 Poll. Then they dropped out as explained above after having started 1-2 with losses to Iowa and Penn State. Between those two they beat FSU at home and after that they rattled off eight straight wins to climb to #4 in the final regular season poll of 1981 before losing their bowl game and finishing #11.
- After being out for two weeks (9/28/81 and 10/5/81) Nebraska jumped back in at #19 in the 10/12/81 poll. They were then in 348 consecutive polls through the September 22, 2002 Poll.
They only missed three of the 525 Polls between November 3, 1969 and September 22, 2002 and they were oh-so-close to making those three.

If it had been 25 like now..
Probably 525 straight
Probably

You just wish the nation hated the buckeye like they hate Georgia and Bama
-
Does the "nation" really hate UGA? I would not have thought they had enough success to merit that.
There are a FEW teams I kind of perversely enjoy watching lose, not many, aside from the usual thought "That team needs to lose to benefit my team.".
-
Off Field incidents haven't exactly been jay walking
-
probably not
but SEC SEC SEC
-
I can see folks thinking UGA players are "misbehaving", and their coach as well. It could be Kirby is accepting players maybe Mark Richt would have passed on.
-
Yeah. It "could be."
-
It's amazing that Georgia still fields a team with so many arrests. Do we even hear about all of them? Seems common.
-
Most of the arrests were for racing, speeding violations. Those folks were suspended a game. One fellow was charged with assault on a pregnant GF and is apparently off the team. This was a Miami transfer.
Part of this appears to be NIL monies going into Dodge Chargers et al. and folks wanting to give them a go. This is particularly bad given the accident last year that cost two people their lives in a racing incident.
