I want to be optimistic after ND laid and egg against Northern Illinois, they are definitely flawed, but I have no idea if our defense can hold up against the run. Most worried about their QB running on us for big scrambles. No clue if our O Line can give Card enough time to make throws or holes for Mock to run through. I will be there but not expecting a W, somehow ND finds a way to turn it around after looking like crap last week.

Notre Dame is more talented than us all over the field. Ultimately that means that trying to beat them is likely to be a VERY uphill battle.
Now, I realize that NIU is 124th in the composite talent ranking, and beat them. But A&M is T7th in that ranking, and lost to ND.
Clearly I think ND was caught sleepwalking through that NIU game. A mistake I do NOT think they're going to make on Saturday. There's a reason that even after losing to NIU at home, Notre Dame is still 10 point favorites on the road in West Lafayette.

perhaps, the composite talent ranking doesn't mean shit

Hail Purdue, Boiler Up!
Sure would be fun to see a Purdue win in this game. The nation stands behind you. :)

Well, recruiting rankings aren't everything. I think we all know that.
And looking at their methodology, it doesn't reflect what class these players are. So there can be outliers perhaps if say a new coach comes in and suddenly starts recruiting better but all the new players are underclassmen so probably not as good [yet] as the ranking would predict, or a new coach comes in and isn't recruiting well dragging down the ranking but all the last guy's [better] recruits are upperclassman.
But I think the composite talent ranking does mean shit. It's just how MUCH shit does it mean?

It is always fun to have a bunch of extra Purdue fans this week. Just as I am generally a fan of two schools each week:
- Purdue
- Whoever's playing ND

My honest opinion is that it sucks for Purdue that NIU beat ND last week. I just don't see ND playing that badly two weeks in a row. IMHO, Purdue is better than NIU and could beat last week's ND but I doubt we'll see last week's ND this week so . . . color me hopeful but not optimistic.

We've had this discussion a bunch of times and I'm on board with @betarhoalphadelta (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=19) 's explanation. Teams can and obviously do under/over achieve relative to talent but the talent creates a baseline that you can only possibly stray so far from. Purdue's ceiling is a lot more limited than Notre Dame's. Ie, if ND plays anywhere near their ceiling then how well PU plays only determines their margin of defeat but they WILL lose regardless.

We share one of our top-3. My three favorites are:
- Ohio State
- Whoever's playing the cheating scUM from Ann Arbor
- Whoever's playing ND.
This causes me issues when ND plays M, in that case I root for the meteor.

I was a little bit conflicted last week but, I rooted for Texas!
I'm sure Utee tried to root for the Big 12 team Colorado but, he rooted for the Huskers!
