Big changes coming in National Rankings with losses like Michigan and Notre Dame.
1. Ohio State - still not really tested
2. USC - has big LSU win
3. Penn State - not sure but top 5
4. Oregon - not sure but top 5

7. Illinois - nice win against top 20
8. Iowa - Ouch
9. Wisconsin - Alabama is next 👀

Not a great week for the Big Ten but it was not all bad. At least there was plenty of good games to over-react to this week.
Let's get to it.
1. Ohio St - OSU has shown it can totally dominate weak competion
2. USC - So far the most surprising team. Seems to have improved a lot from last season
3. Nebraska - Strong win against Colorado
4. Penn St - some weeks you dominate and some weeks you just survive. PSU survived.
5. Illinois - Big win over a ranked Kansas team
6. Oregon - struggling early but still winning
7. Michigan - laid an egg against Texas. Mich is clearly a work in progress but should get better
8. Rutgers - they just keep winning
9. Iowa - blows game in last minute to Iowa St. Iowa's attempts to fix its offense seems to be messing with it's ability to win close games.
10. Indiana - 2 big blowout wins against weak completion, but Wow! 77 points in its last game!
11. Purdue - took week 2 off but they got good test coming up against Notre Dame.
12. Washington - just not looking that great so far, but they are winning.
13. Wisconsin - just not looking very good in it's first 2 games, but winning.
14. NW - lost to Duke in OT.
15. Minnesota - this is probably unfairly low after almost beating UNC in week 1
16. Mich St - My prediction that MSU would get better later in the season actually came true in week 2.
17. MD - Last week I had MSU last and MD lost to MSU, so big drop for MD.
18. UCLA - did not play in week 2. Weak win over Hawaii in week 1. Somebody's got to be last

Interesting to see everyone ranking Oregon ahead of Washington. Is it because national rankings have them so high? Oregon has barely escaped twice. Lot of claims that maybe Idaho was just a much better team than expected but they barely beat Wyoming this weak.
Oregon looks very overrated at this point. Yes it’s week 2, but they wouldn’t sniff my top 10 in the nation right now.

Oregon of course was highly regarded preseason, and then .... OK, they have not looked great thus far, but they "COULD" fix things and look better, but that's speculation not based on evidence. Any other team not preseason ranked top ten would not be ranked.

Florida State was also ranked top 10. Preseason rankings can be wildly wrong.

They "usually" do OK with the top ten, but at least one of them will drop hard. The top three nearly always end up top ten. After that, it's more of guessing.

That’s actually a very interesting statement. I’m hoping one of our stat experts, ELA or MB can give us some data there because my gut tells me you’re spot on, but I’m curious the deviation from top 3 to preseason #5 and so forth

1. Ohio State (2-0)
Ohio State takes the top spot after Week 2. The Buckeyes topped 50 points once again over the weekend, defeating Western Michigan by a score of 56-0, with wide receiver Jeremiah Smith having himself an afternoon, amassing five receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown.
2. Penn State (2-0)
Following their huge victory on the road against West Virginia in Week 1, Penn State came home to a raucous Beaver Stadium. However, it was anything but an easy Week 2 for the Nittany Lions, as Bowling Green gave them all they could handle over the weekend, falling seven points shy in their upset attempt.
At the least, quarterback Drew Allar showed his mettle again in Week 2, passing for 204 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Penn State will look to hammer out the kinks in another home game in Week 3, as they welcome Illinois to town for their first Big Ten game of 2024.

After a dominating run led by Jim Harbaugh over the last couple of seasons, Sherrone Moore hoped to continue the immense success for the Wolverines. However, it’s been a rocky start, as Michigan struggled a bit with Fresno State in Week 1, and then Texas came to Ann Arbor and took their lunch in Week 2.
4. Oregon (2-0)
Oregon came into the season with dreams of a Big Ten title in their first season with the conference. While they’re 2-0 after two weeks, the Ducks haven’t been overly impressive, struggling with Idaho in Week 1 and Boise State in Week 2, two teams Dan Lanning’s team will need to show they can handle if their College Football Playoff dreams are to come true.
Perhaps their rivalry clash with Oregon State is just what the doctor ordered to return to form for the Ducks. Defeating the Beavers in Corvallis would be no small feat, but it’s something Dillon Gabriel and something must accomplish to get their team prepared for some Big Ten clashes in the coming weeks.
5. USC (2-0)
USC was a bit overlooked heading into the 2024 campaign, after the Trojans faltered following immense hype in 2023. However, a victory over LSU in Week 1, and a tremendous follow-up against Utah State in Week 2 has Lincoln Riley’s squad tending up.
Miller Moss and USC’s offense is looking poised to continue ravaging their opponents, and they’ll enjoy a well-timed bye week in Week 3. It’s back to work the following weekend, with another massive showdown on the docket, as the Trojans will travel to Ann Arbor to face Michigan.
6. Washington (2-0)
Washington’s first two weeks haven’t been dominating by any means, by the Huskies have done enough to get to 2-0, even though the completion hasn’t been stiff. In Week 2, Jedd Fisch’s squad defeated Eastern Michigan by a score of 30-9, with Will Rogers passing for four touchdowns in an impressive performance.
While the two don’t share the same conference any longer, Washington will welcome Washington State to town in Week 3. The Cougars will be highly motivated to beat the Huskies, so the freshly-minted Big Ten program will need to be at their best inside Lumen Field when Saturday rolls around.
7. Wisconsin (2-0)
Through two weeks, Wisconsin hasn’t established themselves as world-beaters, but the Badgers are 2-0. Still, the confidence in Luke Fickell’s team isn’t exactly soaring, as Wisconsin struggled at times in their wins over Western Michigan and South Dakota.
There will certainly be zero time for that in Week 3. Wisconsin will have their biggest test of the season by far, with the Alabama Crimson Tide coming to Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday, in what should be one of the better showdowns this weekend.
8. Michigan State (2-0)
Michigan State defeated FAU in Week 1, and then the Spartans were able to go on the road and take care of business in Week 2 on the road, defeating Maryland. Utilizing a ten-point fourth quarter, Aidan Chiles led Michigan State to another dub, even if he threw three interceptions in the conference battle.
In Week 3, Michigan State will have a bit of a reprieve, as Prairie View will come to East Lansing. The schedule tightens up a bit after, so Michigan State must use this weekend as a chance to iron out everything they need to improve on, because they won’t get away with it against some of their tougher conference foes.
9. Illinois (2-0)
What a start to the season it’s been for Illinois. After taking care of business against Eastern Illinois in Week 1, by future of a 45-0 victory, the Fighting Illini got some revenge on Kansas in Week 2, defeating the No. 19-ranked Jayhawks by four due to their ten point fourth quarter last Saturday afternoon.
Now, Illinois will be hoping to keep the good times rolling in Week 3, as they’ll welcome Central Michigan to Memorial Stadium. It’ll be their third home game of the season, before they take their show on the road in Week 4, so they’ll be hoping to leave Champaign undefeated when the time comes.
10. Nebraska (2-0)
Matt Rhule’s Cornhuskers quieted Colorado and Deion Sanders in Week 2. The Buffaloes were shellshocked by halftime, as Nebraska raced out to a 28-0 lead, and while they didn’t score in the second half, it was more than enough to secure a win inside Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.
Now, Dylan Railoa and the new-look Cornhuskers will look to keep their momentum headed in the right direction in Week 3, as they’ll welcome Northern Iowa to town. Some important Big Ten clashes will take place in the weeks following, so Nebraska will be hoping to continue their impressive play with that in mind.

1 - Ohio State
Previous: Won 56-0 over Western Michigan
Momentary Musing: Snore and into a bye week. It must be nice to live such a boring life. When are they going to be tested? Iowa? Michigan State? Nebraska? It might not be until November when they play Penn State.
2 - Penn State
Previous: Won 34-27 over Bowling Green.
Momentary Musing: I believe this was a let down game after a big win against West Virginia the week before. The matchup against Illinois will be a better game than we expect but the next game against Kent State should probably be easy for the Nittany Lions.
3 - USC
Previous: Won 48-0 over Utah State.
Momentary Musing: Is this defense for real? Well for two weeks is sure seems like it. They get a week off until they go to Michigan. That might not be a great offensive test but probably better than Utah State.
4 - Oregon
Previous: Won 37-34 over Boise State.
Upcoming: At Oregon State on Saturday.
Momentary Musing: An interesting stat that I did not expect was that going into this game Oregon was 0-3 against Boise State. That changed with a last second field goal but we really have to start wondering if Oregon is going to get this figured out.
5 - Michigan
Previous: Lost 31-12 to Texas.
Upcoming: Arkansas State on Saturday
Momentary Musing: So is Texas that good or is Michigan just not as great as the preseason prognosticators thought? They lose 31-12 but it really was not that close. We will find out how good Michigan is or isn’t in two weeks when USC comes to town.
6 - Wisconsin
Previous: Won 27-13 over South Dakota.
Upcoming: Alabama on Saturday.
Momentary Musing: Normally I would probably knock Wisconsin for 27-13 win over South Dakota especially when it’s a week after a 28-14 win over Central Michigan. However, in this case they could be looking ahead because Alabama is coming to town next week.
7 - Iowa
Previous: Lost 20-19 over Iowa.
Upcoming: Troy on Saturday
Momentary Musing: I am always slow on knocking teams when they lose in a rivalry game and I’ll do the same here. Iowa State came in to Kinnick and won on a last second field goal. Iowa appears to plan on riding Kaleb Johnson as their quarterback, Cade McNamara, struggled as he went 13-29 for 99 yards and two interceptions.
8 - Nebraska
Previous: Won 28-10 over Colorado
Upcoming: Northern Iowa on Saturday.
Momentary Musing: I think even if Colorado goes on to have a bad season that the win for the Huskers was still a big one because the entire country was watching. In the past it was Nebraska who laid eggs on national television.
9 - Rutgers
Previous: Won 49-17 over Akron.
Momentary Musing: Rutgers keeps on keeping on and dominating the competition. Now we can talk about the level of competition but they are doing their job and there are some other teams in the conference who are not. In two weeks they go to Virginia Tech. At this point I still think Rutgers is the biggest threat for Nebraska to not start 7-0.
10 - Washington
Previous: Won 30-9 over Eastern Michigan.
Upcoming: Washington State on Saturday.
Momentary Musing: Washington’s quarterback Will Rogers throws for four touchdowns after a slow start. Eastern Michigan was up 3-0 at the beginning of the second quarter but Washington went on to score 21 points in the second quarter.
11 - Indiana
Previous: Won 77-3 over Western Illinois
Upcoming: At UCLA on Saturday.
Momentary Musing: Indiana broke the school’s single game scoring record by scoring 77 points. They scored 76 points in 1901. So that’s something.
12 - Illinois
Previous: Won 23-17 over Kansas.
Upcoming: Central Michigan on Saturday.
Momentary Musing: It is between Nebraska and Illinois for the best win of the weekend and the nod probably goes to Illinois as Kansas is likely a much better team than Colorado when we look at these teams at the end of the season.
13 - Michigan State
Previous: Won 27-24 to Maryland.
Upcoming: Prairie View A&M on Saturday.
Momentary Musing: One of my most confident picks I had for this past week was Maryland over Michigan State. Well good job on Jonathan Smith in proving me wrong. MSU was also able to overcome three interceptions thrown by Aiden Chiles and a 7 point deficit halfway through the 4th quarter.
14 - Maryland
Previous: Lost 24-27 to Michigan State.
Upcoming: At Virginia on Saturday.
Momentary Musing: Kind of a surprising loss to MSU as Maryland played really well the week before and MSU struggled. You never know with conference play. Maryland even won the turnover battle by two.
15 - Minnesota
Previous: Won 48-0 over Rhode Island.
Upcoming: Nevada on Saturday.
Momentary Musing: The Fighting PJ Flecks survives to fight another day. They matchup against Nevada next week who is currently 1-2 after losing to Georgia Southern and SMU.
16 - Purdue
Previous: Bye Week
Upcoming: Notre Dame on Saturday.
Momentary Musing: That Notre Dame team went from looking like one of the best a week ago to beatable after losing to Northern Illinois on Saturday. What will Purdue do?
17 - Northwestern
Previous: Lost 20-26 to Duke in 2OT
Upcoming: Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
Momentary Musing: It has to be weird playing in that high school stadium right? Like I wonder if some of the NW players are looking around and asking themselves if this is what they signed up for. Then they remembered that they’ll graduate with a degree from Northwestern and they were probably fine with it.
18 - UCLA
Previous: Bye Week.
Upcoming: Indiana on Saturday.
Momentary Musing: Indiana put up 77 points on Saturday. What are they going to put up against the UCLA defense?

Oregon looks very overrated at this point. Yes it’s week 2, but they wouldn’t sniff my top 10 in the nation right now.
The Athletic CFP podcast said they've already allowed more sacks through 2 games this year (against Idaho and Boise), than they have allowed in an entire season since 2021.
Also #82 in plays of over 20 yards, last year they were #2

- OREGON (5) - Boise State for now looks like comfortably the best G5 team, but Ducks still have lots of work to do
- MICHIGAN (4) - honestly almost left them at #4

- NEBRASKA (8) - would have liked to see them continue in the 2nd half
