I see this is an NBC game. hopefully this will bring NBC a slightly better slate of games this year.
as noted in the Nebraska thread, first time these two have played each other at night 'since the Halloween year of '92. Interestingly, another Freshman QB made the start for Nebraska that game.
I'll likely not be able to see this one live.
-
Thinking the Huskers and Rhule kick the Golden Buff's and Prime Time's ass.
-
last season's game got out of hand because of a rough outing for Husker quarterback Jeff Sims on the road, who committed three turnovers and was knocked out the game in the fourth quarter.
Hopefully, Raiola, as a freshman will have a better evening at home.
-
Annoyed that the Buckeyes play at the same time, want to watch this

But a culture clash? “Not at all,” Rhule insisted during his game-week press conference Monday.
“I think they’re a competitive culture,” Rhule said. “They go recruit and get the best players they can get. They do well in school. They don’t get in trouble off the field and they compete. I respect that with what they do.”
With that, the Huskers’ second-year coach avoided giving the Buffaloes any bulletin board material for Saturday night's clash in LIncoln. He also heaped praise on Colorado’s playmakers on offense, including Sanders’ son Shedeur, the Buffs’ starting quarterback. The CU-Nebraska series, he said, is “a great rivalry that I grew up on. A lot of those rivalries are dead now, so it’s great to play it.”
But a “great rivalry“ doesn't mean special motivational schemes are being used this week. “I’m just trying to get the football right and nothing else,” he said. “I’m not going to not wear black this week and I’m not going to not say their name. ... I’m just going to keep bringing the guys back to ‘hey guys, let’s execute. Let’s play third down. Let’s protect the football. Let’s not fumble on the seven-yard line.’ For all we’ve talked about not fumbling, we fumbled on the seven yard line [Saturday against UTEP]. We have a lot more work to do here.”
He did implore fans to bring the noise Saturday. “Let’s all be Nebraska Nice on Sunday,” Rhule said. “It should be a loud, loud, raucous atmosphere.”
-
I'm sure the data is available, but wondering what % of P5 games are now 'night' games (defined as 6pm or later) local kickoff time, versus 5, 10, 15 years ago.
I know it isn't literally true, but games put on Conference networks at night seem like they are PPV or off the grid in a sense, even though I can readily turn them on at home. crowded out. put another way, games which require you to labor with the bartender/waitress to make a tortured effort to 'find' the game on the TV.

Niiice. It should be nice out so I will probably have a game in the sun room and one in the living room, and if I sit in the right spot can watch both. Still, a great noon game, a great evening game - would have loved to see the Bucks at 3:30. I'll have to settle for El Assico.
-
if Nebraska doesn't turn the ball over a million times like Jeff Sims did last year- they win the game.
Dylan Railoa needs to just operate the offense and take what is there and protect the football. As long as he just takes care of the football, Nebraska wins.
-
I would love a Nebraska blowout more than anything, but I am hesitant. I'm expecting a down to the wire game.
-
the Buffs are gonna score some points
-
"My dad said, 'Just so you know, I never lost to them,'" freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola told the media on Tuesday.

Common Fan Keys to Victory
Hydrate. Listen up, Common Fan. You’re no good out there if you lose your voice before the 4th quarter. Or, if you have a few pops and a couple of Runzas, you need to keep your strength until the clock shows zeroes. Staying hydrated can help with all of the above. Sure, it’s a night game, and no one’s going to blame you for having some big boy sodas as you prepare for kickoff. But let’s be smart, mix in some waters, and make sure you’re ready to roll when kickoff comes around. This includes everyone watching at home too, not just those who are going to the game. We need everybody screaming at their TVs, sending the positive vibes, and doing everything possible to get the Huskers to 2-0.
Bring Your “A” Snack Game. This isn’t the time to mess around with some half price, store bought trail mix with unidentifiable ingredients. This is our biggest non-conference game of the year against an old school rival. Didn’t have a chance to make your wings with the special marinade last weekend? Now’s the time. Been thinking about how much everyone would like that homemade cookie recipe you used to make? Bring it back. Wondering whether you got too much ground beef, and maybe you shouldn’t make all the sliders? Don’t think twice; make them all. We need to pull out all the stops. It doesn’t matter if you’re tailgating at Memorial Stadium, enjoying a potluck with friends, or watching at home 1,000 miles away. Don’t go halfway with your snacks this weekend.
Don’t Hesitate When it Comes to Your Gear. I’ve got some shirts from recent years that I used to love, but after wearing them for a few losses, I’ve hesitated to continue wearing them. 2024 is the time to forget about all that. Bring out your best Husker gear, whether it’s a Jamal Lord jersey, red and white leopard print pants, or just a solid t-shirt you got from Scheels. We’re wiping the slate clean and turning a corner this year. Wear your favorite Husker gear and wear it proudly, even if there are sweat stains in the pits or ketchup stains on the shoulder. It’s time to turn karma on its head and laugh in superstition’s face. It’s time to stop apologizing and start winning. It’s time to believe in Nebraska football again.

So 'Sker fans are new to this gameday experience

Man, how does one get ketchup stains on the shoulder of one's shirt?

After staying away from Memorial Stadium for the better part of two decades, former Nebraska football player and coach Frank Solich will be making a second trip in as many years to his old stomping grounds.
Nebraska and The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced today that they will jointly honor 2024 College Football Hall of Fame electee Frank Solich with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments®. The Salute will take place this Saturday, Sept. 7, during the Cornhuskers' home football game against Colorado, which will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CDT on NBC/Peacock.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The balloon release tradition will return to Memorial Stadium for the highly anticipated Nebraska vs. Colorado game.
The tradition, which dates back to the 1960s, had faced criticism over environmental concerns and was ultimately halted in 2022 due to a helium shortage.
“As we celebrate the rich tradition between the two schools and honor our 1994 national championship team, Nebraska Athletics will bring back a Memorial Stadium tradition of releasing balloons after the Huskers’ first touchdown,” Nebraska Athletics announced Thursday.
Red balloons will be distributed free of charge by Husker Athletics staff in and around Memorial Stadium.

Oh this isn't my setup, just a pic I found online depicting a room with TWO televisions in it. :) It is a rather impressive lineup!
But if you wanna know my personal arsenal of gaming systems (well, plus my son's), it is:
1 Atari 2600 gaming console
1 Atari 400 personal computer/gaming console
1 Wii U
1 Nintendo Switch
1 Raspberry Pi with ROMS totaling ~150 vintage games
1 Alienware Aurora r14 gaming computer
I think that's it. The old Atari systems do work, they do have gaming cartridges, and I have them hooked up to my college 23" tube TV, which is a GE brand.
-
Nebraska is in the B1G right?
-
Sure. The B1G 8. Or the B1G 12. Or the B1G Ten. Or the B1G B1G. Something like that.
Anyway, nice TD. Geaux Huskers!

Awesome. I have, in my closet , a Commodore 64, NES, and Sega Genesis.
pretty much threw away an original PlayStation and Xbox. But I love retro games.
have not turned on the C64 or NES in over a decade or more.

Recent vintage Nebraska would have been up 14 points instead of 28 at half And we all know how that would have ended.

I'm hoping to find a copy of the NBC telecast to watch for some of the questionable calls
the game is over and it's a win, but Coach Rhule did call out the Big 12 crew in his post game presser.

College football fans are calling for a college football announcer's firing after Week 2 of the 2024 regular season.
Legendary Texas Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy joined NBC Sports this offseason. He's set to work as the color commentator for top college football games this fall.
Saturday night, McCoy was on the call of NBC's Nebraska vs. Colorado game.
McCoy didn't get great reviews.
"Colt McCoy sounds like a hostage as an announcer," one fan wrote.

"Colt McCoy has the personality of dry paint. He’s awful. Why is he announcing games for NBC?" one fan added.
"Colt McCoy might be the worst college football announcer in history," one fan added.
"Colt McCoy has to be one of the worst play by play commentators I've ever heard in my life," another fan wrote.
It's still very early for McCoy, so perhaps he'll get better as the 2024 regular season pushes on. Moving into the broadcasting booth is not easy for most.
"I'm a huge Colt McCoy fan but dude just retired a month ago. Putting him on a high profile prime time game for his first assignment wasn't ideal," one fan added.
"I know it’s early, but I can’t tell what’s been worse so far. Colorado’s offensive line or Colt McCoy’s commentary. I’ll keep you updated," one fan added.
-
Pretty harsh. I didn't catch all of the game and wasn't really paying attention to the audio, so don't have an opinion of my own on the matter.
I do think they probably should have started him on some Northwestern or Indiana or Purdue games or something, on the BTN or Peacock, rather than a big Saturday night game on NBC.
-
folks on social media are usually pretty harsh - it's stupid
many were probably Husker fans
I haven't heard any of the broadcast
I have heard the announcers were pro Colorado, but that was by Husker fans
I'll have to ask my brother. He watched the game in the sports bar, probably had audio.
And he knows Colt.
and yes, his first assignment - he will get much better quickly
-
5 Things I loved
1. The Boneyard. The student section has taken more than their fair share of crap over the years. "They don't fill their section". "They leave early." "They're too quiet." Not on Saturday. The first students were there at 9 am - OVER NINE HOURS BEFORE KICKOFF. With two hours until kick, their section was almost entirely full. They were loud all night long, and I'm thrilled they were able to rush the field in celebration. Say what you want about the quality of the opponent, but the students earned the right to celebrate.
2. Ty Robinson. Blackshirt Mountain was a force all night long. He batted down the opening pass, and had a huge sack to shut down Colorado's first possession. He blocked a field goal to preserve the first half shutout. And by drawing double teams, he freed up everybody else to make plays. The impact of a dominating defensive tackle is tough to overstate.
3. Tommi Hill. Tommi had a tough assignment on Saturday, but he more than held his own. After Hill's beautiful pick six put the Huskers up 14-0, the game felt completely in control. Travis Hunter got his yards, but he and Jimmy Horn, Jr. were not the big play threats they have been in other games. It was fun seeing Hunter get noticeably frustrated - partially because his quarterback couldn't find him downfield, and partially because Tommi Hill was in his ear.
4. Jacory Barney Jr. I love how Marcus Satterfield is utilizing the speedy freshman. A nice little package of plays - push passes, reverses, etc. - all designed to get him the ball in space. For all of the crap that Satterfield takes, it's worth noting that he's one of the few Nebraska OC's to properly use somebody with Barney's talents (unlike the freshmen years of Tyjon Lindsey and Wan'Dale Robinson). Just imagine what Tom Osborne would do with Barney as a classic wingback.
5. Dante Dowdell and Rahmir Johnson. The duo of Husker running backs are a great 1-2 combo. Dowdell is used as a bowling ball: hard and fast down the middle of the lane, trying to knock down as many pins as possible. Rahmir is used like a soccer ball: moving down the field with quick strikes and short passes. Together, they accounted for one-third of Nebraska's offensive production.
-
brother's reply regarding Colt..............
Didn’t really notice. I don’t think I heard the announcers.
He might get better. Jesse Palmer was pretty painful to watch early on.
-
folks on social media are usually pretty harsh - it's stupid
Yep. And it seems like the national pastime of sports fans is bitching about announcers anyway. Dunking on a guy who is literally in his first day on the job because he's finding his footing is silly. I've read the fans did the same about Brady announcing the Cowboys yesterday. I watched that game, and he honestly wasn't great, but I'm sure he'll improve. It takes a while for an announcer to find his "voice". Hopefully he does better than Romo, who initially was presenting smart football content but now just turned into a cheerleader overly excited about EVERYTHING that happens.
And god forbid they ever put a woman in the booth. The vitriol against women announcing football IMHO goes WAY above and beyond any actual merit of their performance.
-
I'll take any woman announcer over Gus Johnson any time.
I really hope Gus is not in Madison this coming weekend.

65 percent of announcers exist to be complained about.
30 are whatever.
5 get praise.
Also, ex players need to stop being gifted these jobs because people have heard of them. Make these people put in some actual work at lower levels.

Yeah, NBC should have started Colt on Peacock.
Disney probably would have stuck him on ESPN2/U, or on some obscure SEC Network games

Couldnt agree more. I can't stand listening to Johnson. I've never understood the appeal and strongly dislike when he's on an important game.
It was clearly Brady's first game and he certainly had some signs of not being polished, but he also had some moments of just being very real commenting on players that were formerly teammates and his insight on them. Brady good.. Johnson bad.

Colt made $27 million as a career backup in the NFL, he's doing okay but I'm sure he's happy to take even more money to be a TV analyst.

he's obviously doing fine
Brady's probably owed more than $27 million from New England next year

Colt was fine....he did however seem and feel quite nervous and was very deliberate and careful.
People should chill out and back off.

I remain so confused as to how Joel Klatt became the FOX #1 color guy. Gus is Gus, you live and die there. He was great at capturing the moment when he only called big games. I think when BTN hired him to call basketball games was his downfall. Like, just chill when Indiana hits a 3 up 20 against Valpo.
Joel Klatt is Dick Vitale 2.0. He clearly has coaches who feed him info, and those programs are given a free pass. He largely does big games, so everyone doesn't notice it. Brian Griese called all of his sons games, but the announcers love helmets, so whatever. But when Bob Griese wasn't calling Michigan games, he was still good. Joel Klatt only has a job because the helmet schools give him info, because he will take a knee for them

The eyes of the nation continue to seek out Nebraska football.
NBC Sports released data from their Week Two college football broadcast between Nebraska and the Colorado Buffaloes on Monday. Per NBC, an average of 6.3 millions viewers were recorded during the Huskers' 28-10 victory over CU.
The Nebraska/Colorado contest is the most-watched Big Ten broadcast for the network to date. It beat out the October 2023 contest between Ohio State and Wisconsin, which garnered 4.87 million viewers.
It is Nebraska's second time being broadcast on the network in prime time, having been featured last season against Wisconsin. In that matchup, 2.45 million viewers watched the Huskers fall to the Badgers in mid-November a season ago.
The Huskers will appear on NBC again for their annual Black Friday contest with Iowa at Kinnick Stadium. Nebraska and the Hawkeyes will kick-off at 6:30 p.m. CST, matching the same evening start time as the Colorado matchup.

It was all Neon Deion.

I agree - I watched the game and was surprised to see Colt but at least he wasn't completely distracting and constantly telling long stories that interrupt the actual game I'm trying to watch, lol. Didn't realize it was his first gig and agree that he will probably get better.
-
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders said RB Dallan Hayden is likely out this week vs. Colorado State. Safety Shilo Sanders is likely out 2-3 weeks. CB/WR Isaiah Hardge might be out as well. The Buffs are hopeful DL Chidozie Nwankwo will able to play vs. the Rams

“That environment was top 10. I’ve got to give it to them,” Hunter said on The Travis Hunter Show. “The little lights show in the fourth quarter, that was cool too. No lie, that was a good little show, boy. Their fans was loud on third down, when you break the huddle, when you get in the huddle. I can’t even think to myself how loud it was.”
According to the official record, 86,906 people were inside Memorial Stadium on Saturday. It was a packed house, one waiting for a big win to get the Matt Rhule era really rocking and rolling.
“They came out fast,” Hunter said. “They hit us in the mouth. We had no response. That’s pretty much what happened.”
“Nebraska is a good team,” Hunter said. “I mean they beat us fair and square. We’ve just got to come out and do better. We’ve got to play Colorado football, and that’s not Colorado football.”

We’ve got to play Colorado football, and that’s not Colorado football.”

he’s probably boys with Deion.

Desmond alone makes Gameday unwatchable, and on top of that he has help doing that.
Fox CFB pregame is on another level (their NFL sucks). Meyer is awesome.
And then they put Gus on to F it all up.
