Friday will be the second meeting between Nebraska and Florida. The Gators were the No. 9 seed in last week’s SEC Baseball Tournament, falling to eighth-seeded Vanderbilt in the opening round.
Monday’s selection marks Nebraska’s 18th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, and the 15th appearance in the last 24 seasons (excluding the canceled season in 2020). This is Nebraska’s second NCAA Tournament appearance under Head Coach Will Bolt.

I think the format is just about my favorite postseason tournament. I know it will never happen, but Id love three straight weekends of 4 team double elimination regions. But theyd never reduce the CWS to 4 teams

Florida got in by its chinny-chin-chin, going 1 game over .500, but with the nation's toughest schedule.
All Nebraska has to do is walk Caglianone every time and they'll win. He's a monster, hitting over .400 with massive power and twice as many walks as Ks.
He's it.
Florida has zero pitching. No other major hitting threats - everyone else hits .260 with average power.
Just walk him every time.
-
I'll forward to coach Bolt

Nebraska is the No. 2 seed in the Stillwater Regional, and will take on No. 3 seed Florida on Friday at 2 p.m. The game can be streamed on ESPN+.

Yeah I really love the symmetry of it all. A four team double elimination tournament followed by a 2-team best-of-three series, and then do that again in Omaha.
Of course, in the old 48-team field, the 6-team double-elimination regionals were just incredible. Texas was fortunate enough to host a few of these and I was fortunate enough to attend them. The excitement and wall-to-wall baseball was really great.
-
OSU is the slight favorite to win the Regional with +105 odds according to DraftKings. This marks the third straight season that the Cowboys have hosted a Regional and their 49th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament, which ranks them fourth all-time.
NCAA Baseball Tournament Stillwater Regional odds
Oklahoma State +105
Florida +165
Nebraska +390
Niagara +4500
The Cowboys will have a couple of other tough Power 5 teams to contend with to make it to Super Regionals. Despite entering as the Regional’s No. 3 seed, Florida (28-27) has the second-best odds to take the Regional.
The Gators are led by slugger Jac Caglianone, who ranks sixth in the NCAA with a .415 batting average and fourth with 29 home runs on the season. He is only six homers shy of the school’s career record after recording a single-season high 33 during the 2023 season.
As for Nebraska, the Cornhuskers won the Big Ten Tournament and finished the regular season with a 39-20 record. Rhett Stokes leads the team with a .353 batting average, while Josh Caron leads has 16 home runs.

Never dogpile before the final series.

I followed UGA baseball a bit on line. They are now hosting a regional. I happened to notice a while back they had a decent overall record and remained out of the rankings, but they put on a bit of a surge and looked competitive. Like Florida, they have one massive hitter named Charlie Condon. The rest of the players seem to be decent enough. I hope they survive the regional. They were knocked out of the SEC tournament very early.

MSU mercied them early on in the season somehow
-
Thunderstorms throughout the state today, might end up being tough to get in both games at the College Station regional. Other regionals across the southeast might be impacted as well.
-
Walk Cacglionone and win, right?!?
They gave him 3 passes and a kid with 6 hits all year hits 3 doubles and a HR.
Ain't baseball grand?
-
I knew you would give Will Bolt bad advice
-
Texas and A&M play each other. I think tomorrow.
-
A&M Advances. UTenn advances. UGA and Kentucky advance.
Looks like we’re matched up with Oregon.
-
Four regional finales todsy/tonight. Will be pulling for the Purple Aces in one of em.
-
Congrats to the ags and all others proceeding to the supers.
-
Florida won twice to force a 'game 7' with OK State. They're the better team, but you don't have to be the better team, you just have to win, right?
In the two games against them, they've had 2 HRs changed to doubles, due to fan interference (reaching over the wall). We'll take it.
Baseball is hard when your team ERA is a thousand.
-

Here they come!
-
Gators need 3 more outs to get to the Supers.
-
It kind of feels like there is no great reason not to reseed
-
Luck of the draw kind of makes the most sense in baseball, no?
It's the sport with the most inherent luck (BABIP, imperfect home plate umpires).
Idk.
-
Go Gators!
-
Purple Aces!
-
Absolutely absurd catch to save Clemsons season
-
Have to love umps stealing a moment and ejecting a kid for being excited
-
Go Gators!
-
A&M to CWS in dramatic fashion. I don’t follow closely but we had a key player go down in game 1. Oregon came out strong, led 7-2, but the replacement player hit a grand slam in the 7th inning and we ended up winning 15-9.
Congratulations to all teams that advance.
-
So far 4 SEC teams made it in, with UGA in contention.
A&M
Kentucky
Florida
Tennessee
-
A&M is "technically" a SEC team, I guess
-
Go Gators!
Gators must be in a late season surge. They were very average during the season.
34-28
13-17 in conference play. I think Mississippi had a late surge two years ago and won the whole thing.
-
A&M is "technically" a SEC team, I guess
NU is technically a B1G team, maybe.
-
yup, still seems weird
-
I watched a bit of the UGA-NCSU game while we were having lunch at Farm Burger. My wife asked me something about one of the players, I told her "I don't know who any of the players are." I have heard of Condon, or whatever his name it.
I guess she thought I kept up with the team. I know the Braves players fairly well. The two teams have had successive blowout games.

This is a remarkable stat:

NU is a Big Ten charter member.
UNL is a member but is on probation until 2112.

My oldest was at a travel tournament in Canton last weekend, and Saturday we were done early, so we went to the AA Akron Rubber Ducks game. Between that and seeing how deep the college talent pool is in baseball now, you can see the other side of the early sports specialization. It sucks for the kids who sacrificed so much to peak at being a fringe HS varsity player in their sport of choice, and probably didn't have as much fun along the way, and didn't get to play a whole bunch of different things.
But just how good you have to be to even reach those lower levels is insane. The Rubber Ducks are a Cleveland affiliate. Their #1 prospect is there, but hurt. Then their like #8ish prospect is, but is a starting pitcher and didn't pitch. Nobody else in Akron is even considered a "prospect". They had a 26 year old reliever who was throwing 95 consistently. Imagine being a career minor leaguer who can hit 97, and sit at 95. Their RF hit an absolute bomb of a HR, plus a triple, and should have had a double, if not for the CF making a hell of a play. He also threw a guy out trying to go first to third on base hit down the first base line. Then watching this tournament, the level of college talent, even among non-prospects, is absolutely absurd, even compared to just 10 years ago.

what's the fanny pack looking thing that rides where a belt buckle outa be on the Georgia players?

Ive noticed that on a few players. Have to assume its defensive shoft cards?

wouldn't be good on a pete rose dive head first into 3rd base

SEC and ACC. Not shocking.

SEC and ACC. Not shocking.
Well it's a little surprising. Usually there's at least a couple of B12/PAC teams. But this was an unusually bad year in the B12. And I guess it wasn't the best for the PAC either although I didn't follow them closely.
-
whatever happened to the PAC and Big 12?

SEC and teams trying to get into the Big Ten. Not shocking.

We lost 2/3 to UF in Gainesville this year. Should be a great game. We're down two starters for the year.
-
Our team ERA makes it look like we play at Coors Field, so...
-
Late to the party on this. The two games WVU lost to UNC were about as brutal as it gets.
It’s like someone showed them a highlight reel of WVU’s most gut wrenching losses and said “This is what we do here.”
-
nice start today with a couple walkoffs
-
After a long weather delay, Gators score 2 to get within 1.
-
It took four hours to start a rain-delayed College World Series thriller that didn't end until Texas A&M robbed Florida of a home run.
I didn't stay up to watch
-
We got 5 baserunners on vs the nation's best reliever in 1 2/3 innings, but didn't get any of them across the plate.
-
Gators survive!
-
Aggies 2-0. We lost another starter.
-
The ACC teams are winless vs the SEC teams. That's kinda nuts.

-
It's a good day to be a Gator, as one of them has to lose.
Florida's been playing like the preseason #2 team and not the .500 squad that it was for a bulk of the season.
-
How about that ? Aggies vs Vols in the finals.
-
It's obviously rigged. :57:
Two great teams. I'm stunned neither has ever won the CWS.
-
Lovely. A&M is the only team that scared me.
Let's play ball!
-
Should be a fun series. Congrats to the finalists!
-
Just sit next to your wife and root for those Aggies ;)

She's excited and I'm excited for her. She's been to a lot of Texas baseball games and watched the Horns win a lot of trophies, including two national championships since we got married. She deserves to see her own team do that, for sure.
-
A&M wins game 1. 9-5.
One win away.

Tire 1-1.
Game 3 Monday.

Rumors abound that UT(ex) is hiring UT(en) baseball coach.
True? Did they even fire their guy ?
-
Yes Texas fired David Pierce.
I have no doubt that Texas AD Chris del Conte has approached both Vitello and Schloss, he'd be bad at his job if he didn't.
No clue as to whether or not anything has been decided.
-
That balk was hilarious. An all timer.
Feel bad for my fellow Ags. Congrats to the Vols.
-
Fun series and a heck of a final game. That balk cracked me up, too.
Condolences to the ags, congrats to the vols.
-
Well shit. 5-6. Congratulations to the Vols.

gross

That response to that question was pure chicken shit.
-
It was a tough question to answer in the moment, having just lost the national championship-deciding-game by one run.
But the truth is, the deal had been wrapped up for weeks, so he definitely SHOULD have prepared a better response. A quick "not gonna talk about that right now, just here to talk CWS baseball" would have shut it down.

I wish him nothing but the worst of luck.

Totally fair. Exactly the same thing my TCU friend said when he left Fort Worth for College Station.

It's true we don't really know what it's like to lose a coach in a major sport to another school.
We just preemptively hire crappy ones and then have to fire them a few years later.
