I was thinking Michigan and Maryland was the game of the week, but we have beaten over the head with this Michigan story for so long that we need to focus on something else. That focus is the Big Ten West, where Iowa can clinch with a win in their next two games. However, Iowa's top offensive weapon, corner Cooper Dejean, is done for the season and they are facing an Illinois team that dropped 48 on Indiana. It feels like the last year of the Big Ten West should go to the last weekend, so go Illini.
It's been a mild week in Columbus, but rain came today and cold is coming tomorrow. I can't believe Thanksgiving is this week. We aren't really doing much, but I did promise to cook on Friday but my family hates Thanksgiving food, so I need to come up with something else. They made sausage rolls on the British Baking show, something I've never made before but sounds pretty darned good. Not sure I'm going to make my own pastry, though. Maybe. But probably not.

I might miss the first half or so of the 11am games
been putting off some yard work
just mulching the leaves while cutting the grass and moving the golf cart trailer to the back yard
should take less than 90 minutes
-
Missed opportunity to just say Brian's (swan) Song
-
Watch to see if he has any TAMU gear on
Hell wear anything as long as it also has his own name on it
-
will catch some early games but that's about it. social calendar getting busy.

I wish I could have my wife get all of that done for me. Maybe the grocery store.

I thought Volleyball coaching was over?
It is. Wife can only handle so many Saturdays w me huddled downstairs w 3 tvs for an entire day.
Last weekend was a benefit party which admittedly was a lot of fun.

My rule is no beans if using a long simmering cut, but if using ground meat then beans are a necessity. Also beans are great.

put whatever is on sale in your chili
just refer to it as chili soup when utee94 is around

I like chili served over spaghetti noodles for some reason, often with chopped onion and grated cheese on top as well.

Hell yeah. If the family would eat beans I'd make some black bean soup. But they will just complain and probably tell me beans don't belong in bean soup.

Sunny day here, 60°F already, the leaves have mostly turned brownish. We'll go for a stroll in a few. I want to check out the new stretch of Beltline near us, my first effort was thwarted when a trail I usually use was closed off for repairs.
-
We've gotten rain the last 3 nights. Weird.
I don't have a food plan today, but a friend's party is at 8pm.
Mostly printing and cutting today.

word on the street.......

Also, the Badgers stink.

Cloudy, high of 69 expected here in Central Texico.
No idea what it's like in Ames-- FF, are my Horns gonna have to slog through the snow to play the Birds-in-a-Blender?

Watch party at a friend's house tonight. He's making BBQ and he's good at it. I s c & a aggie wife is making some deviled eggs. I'm bringing good beer and single malt whisky.'

Looking forward to my workout today. Peloton released a Blink-182 artist series and I'm planning on making today "Blink Day" and doing 5 of the 6 workouts (the one I won't do is running, because, well, I don't run). So that'll be 10 minutes of cardio shadowboxing, 30 minutes of weights, and 3 rides that total an hour on the bike.
Not cooking today. Wife and I are planning to actually go out to dinner for once.

Wow. I seriously think we have the same day planned. Noticed Blink on the main screen last night and first dinner date in over 16 months with my better half.

Also, the Badgers stink.
Yeah, it's opening day - so what. You could hunt until 3PM and still make the game without much trouble.
This would not be a conversation if they were 10-2. The place would be packed.
-
They had chuck roast on sale so gonna try some birria and make some queso dip n chips. Will have to do the chili next time when beans are on sale.

haven't decided between an Iowa Boneless Pork chop or Oscar Meyer hot dogs and spiced up baked beans and a few chips
in my recliner for the Badger/Husker game
Could be Titos for the 2nd half, 1st half will be ugly
will start with Yuengling
-
Keeping things quiet this weekend before next weekend the holidays and Christmas parties will occupy my weekends through the New Years.
Will drive up to brother’s later to watch UCLA-USC and Georgia-Tennessee and maybe Texas-Iowa State if I stay late enough (brother is an SC grad).

I love that there are hot dog wiener snobs. I mean, it's a cased meat product made from lips and assholes, but still, somebody gotta get all hot about the BEST lips and assholes. It's glorious.

You wouldn't believe that people have whole contests about braising beef with chili peppers. Jesus people it's peasant food.

Often sharing the same shelf space as Wolf Brand Chili and Hamburger Helper.
The Kroger store shelves but also the cabinet shelves of Homer Simpson, Al Bundy, Drew Carey, Roseanne Conner, and Walker Texas Ranger.

I'm not talking about the canned sausages, I'm talking about the hot dogs like you would get at a Chicago hot dog stand.

Steps for Ryan Day to have statues of himself built in Ohio:
- Win The Game next weekend.
- At the post-game press conference IN Michigan's stadium, tell the interviewers EXACTLY how he feels about the cheating hosts and the fact that he and members of his family literally got death threats because of the lies that their insiders told.

Terps force a three and out and have a healthy drive. 3-0 Maryland.

Without a doubt targeting.
By the letter of the rule it looked like it but I would have felt REALLY bad for the defender. He didn't go high, the WR crouched down.
-
I'm flipping between M/UMD and L'Ville/Miami. There might be more cheerleaders, mascots, and band members than paying spectators in the stadium despite Louisville being a top-10 team.

Go to get my beef in the oven and get back and it's 14-3. Old reliable Maryland.

Sneaky bastards they are
Good old Bama manning up Tenn.Chatt.

Ehh. He lunged high and went helmet to helmet. Exactly what the rule is trying to prevent and while we are feeling bad for the defender, the receiver is out for the game.
-
Who’s the color commentator for this UM game? His sole job is to clearly cover the officials arses. Terrible no call on pass interference downfield then terrible pass interference call on 4th against Maryland and he defended both, which I think both were completely wrong how they were called.
-
JJ threw one that should have been picked, then threw a pick. Maryland has a little life, getting the ball after halftime. I'm still taking a nap.
-
lawn is mowed, leaves are mulched, golf cart trailer is stored in the backyard
looking GOOD
time for a shower and a beer

I like the call.
Roughing the passer, but not targeting

Already announced 3 days ago. Braun is the new permanent head coach for NW. It's amazing to think NW is 1 failed 4th down TD attempt against Iowa from being in first place right now.

that Terp QB can sling it

My gut before it was even discussed was intentional grounding. That being said, really tough to call it in those circumstances.
-
A healthy Maliq Carr makes quite a bit of difference. Glad Barnett got a couple of Ws. Lifelong Spartan. Not head coaching material, but you hate to see his once chance be 0-10

I thought it was the right call, but they usually don't call it in any circumstance, much less that one

Haven’t you met a Michigan fan this month? The rules depend on the circumstances
-
Well good for Michigan, they can celebrate 1,000 wins . . .
Then in a few years they can celebrate that again when they get back to 1,000 wins.
-
If September Maryland could play a whole season they'd have just clinched the B1G-E.

Have to win by 2 is a rule.
The tree as 1st base and the sign pole being 3rd base is a rule.
Ghost runners are a rule.
Picking 2nd means you also pick 3rd is a rule.
You played with a lot more rules than you think.
-
As a football official I was taught to call it by the spirit of the rule not the letter of the rule. One particular area is holding. If the hold is not at the point of attack or effecting the play you don't call it unless it is a takedown hold. So saying a rule is a rule is just not correct.
That said it was a good call of IG.

the Bert/Brian dirt clod fight doesn't look very good, but it's a game

USC would make the list of most underperforming teams this year. They might BE the list, you could perhaps include ND and Tenn, but they were preseason 13 and 12. TCU was 17 but I think most of us figured they were posers. Clemson started at 9. The preseason poll this year was pretty decent so far.
-
Another season coming to a close, hard as it is to believe. I know mid-December we addicts will be watching the Poulan Weedeater Bowl and munching popcorn and eating ribs or wings.
This goes by awfully fast it seems, to me. I sometimes wonder when a game is tense why I enjoy it, and I wonder when it's a blowout why I enjoy that.
This is a UGA team I'm not used to seeing, so far.

Wisconsin isn’t very good, but it will play in a bowl game, which is better than not playing in a bowl game.
I was tied up with some thing and didn’t watch, and ended up finding out from a lifestream podcast on the way home. I might’ve also been a little trepidatious when I saw how it started.
If the new coach wants to take some of the sting out of my commentary that he’s done a bad job in year one, that would be cool
-
Northwestern has quietly gotten bowl eligible, despite a really bad start in the preseason. They could beat Illinois and finish 7-5.
Iowa also is doing pretty well vs expectations of course at 9-2, winning the West, a bunch of close wins, that count, and one bad loss.

I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.
They were down 14-0 after two drives and gave up only 3 more for the game.
-
I wasn't pleasant and for the same reason
-
Big Red showed a lot of heart last night.
It is clear that Braelon Allen is playing hurt but he gave it all he had. Kudos to him.
Tanner Mordecai put the team on his back, with a broken right hand.
Defense woke up and essentially shut down UNL after going down 14.
72K+ in the stands was good. Probably 25% for UNL though.
Students showed up late, but they were electric when they did show.
-
Both teams showed up with a lot of grit.
Nobody quit
Purdy played well cornsidering he's been getting 3rd string reps. mostly running the scout team all season.
Pretty even game by the stats
first time in a long time, maybe ever that the team that had more rushing yards lost
Huskers had a few too many penalties - 7 and the punter is not good.
Missed FG obviously hurt
Entertaining game even if it was a bit ugly

Hmmph.

Weird that Riley doesn't have an entire thread dedicated to his downfall.
Hmmph.
Not a single instance of twelving over the weekend. Not even close.
The most points scored by a losing team was Memphis at 34, followed by multiple teams at 31 (not just the Gators, but the Canes and Bowling Green too).
In all four games the winning team fell short of 40 as well. The biggest blowout was Miami losing to Louisville by 7. Memphis lost to SMUw by 4, The Gators lost to Mizzou by 2, and BG lost to Toledo by 1.
What in the world is going on?
-
Why did u quote me? Has nothing to do with my post.

Auburn paid New Mexico State over $1.8 MILLION just to lose 💀

Jerry Kill in for the KILL!!
And it was not close.

Why did u quote me? Has nothing to do with my post.
Auburn's losing to NMSU is rather amazing.
-
the SEC is just weak this season
-
The SEC usually has 4-5 pretty solid teams in the middle, and two top fiveish teams. This year, the third best team is Missouri, and somehow that name doesn't really provide much helmet these days. Fourth best is LSU, then Ole Miss, I guess, and then Tennessee, and then ... not much.
For perception, you want your top teams to be helmet teams. Imagine the top four in the B1G were Purdue/NW/Minny/Maryland. They wouldn't SEEM that good even if they were.

Hard to rank order Mizzou, Ole Miss, LSU, etc. Ole Miss beat LSU, but can't play well on the road. LSU beat Mizzou, even though Mizzou has less losses. Mizzou offered UGA probably their toughest test, but then struggled with Florida. LSU has the offense to beat anybody, and the defense to lose to anybody. They're sort of a jumble of "okay" teams with some head to head outcomes that still don't say much.
Barn, Clanga, Cocks, Pigs, and the Nashville Nerds are putrid.

Wow, with everything else happening over the weekend, I didn't even see that. And it wasn't just a loss, they got whipped.
Was half the team suspended the day before or something?
-
Mizzou struggled with Florida in CoMo too. They almost lost that one.

They didn't want to be there. Their second string long snapper was out. The referees were in the bag. The sun was in their eyes.

I watched that game off and on, probably taking in a quarter's worth of action in total. Usually when you see those upsets of P5 teams by G5 teams, it's in close games where something crazy happens and the big boy team can't pull it out in the final moments, or allows a big score in the closing moments, or something like that.
I don't know what AU's problem was, but I can tell you they just got whipped at the los pretty much the whole game. After performing reasonably well on the lines against UGA.
Freeze clearly needs to get his guys a better quality of hooker. I just hope he's learned not to buy them over a university-owned phone.

I wonder at what point they try and measure that. I'd guess some viewers stopped watching the first game after the half. A lot of attendees starting leaving in the third.

Those are typically "average viewer" numbers. Sometimes they'll also list a "peak viewers" but that's not on this one, I don't think.
-
What caught my eye is the number of TV's tuned in for CFB at 7:30 EST. That's a lot of eyeballs.

Yup, undefeated U-Dub took the biggest numbers but 3 other games pulling in close to 2.5M each. That's a pretty sizeable audience for college football games.

didn't see pee cock listed
-
They must not report ratings. Neither do BTN, SECN, LHN, ESPN+, ACCN, etc.
Interestingly the CW does report ratings and they've cracked this list a few times.
Edit: Indeed I just looked back and noticed CW is on this one, showing the FSU game bringing in over 1M viewers.

Almost 12 million total among those 4 games.
