It's been too long since we got together.
Let's start planning and Git-R-Done!!!
2024 Football weekend.
Taking nominations for the date.
Can't please everyone, unfortunately.
I nominate Nashville as the site.
I missed the Board meeting there years ago and I've not been to Nashville.
Heard mostly good things.
I'm also nominating 847BadgerFan as the host!
No known Vanderbilt fan for host and Badge will Git-R-Done!
-
I'd go as long as they let Mdot and his ankle monitor in

Nash Vegas was probably our best-attended board meeting ever. We had a blast. Not that it matters, but the Vandy schedule is below. A few went to the game - I did not. We found a great bar and just hung out all day watching football and listening to a Bama banshee.
Not many dates known yet, but to me it matters none. It's about Nash Vegas - not Vandy.
October is a GREAT month to visit Nash Vegas.

Horns play @Vanderbilt next year. The date hasn't been set yet.
-
@GopherRock (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=47) scouted the bar, I believe. I don't think it's there anymore.
Gonna make sure to get hold of a lot of the old crew too.
-
I'm certain @MikeDeTiger (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=1588) and @eltigrerex (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=1580) remember the banshee.

I'll get the Husker Prick Squad back together!
-
Please God no.
-
no worries, they've ALL found humility
you wouldn't even recognize them
-
My wife wants to go back to the Grand Ol' Opry, which she can't pronounce.
-
you can drive the new SUV over
short trip
-
The banshee. Shit. Can’t forget that annoying, crazy Alabama fan.
My husband and I are definitely planning to be there. Thanks, Badge, for the heads up to log in today.
Can’t tell you how good it would be to get together with the old gang and hopefully meet a few new faces.
-
looking forward to seeing you again @Razorchique (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=1574)!!!
I'll be mixing Bloodies
-
The Banshee. I remember talking to a Bama fan in the Men's room and I politely asked him 'hey, um, does that chick have like 10 Gs on Bama today? Why's she screaming every down. 'Yeah, we were hoping she was a LSU fan, I don't know her.'
Yeah, that bar is sadly no more. I was down there last year and the building is totally something else.
-
I'm sure we can find a good spot. Maybe even reserve a party room, depending on attendance.
Could be promising:
Hillsboro Village – Double Dogs (https://doubledogs.biz/hillsboro-village/)
-
Double Crunchy Wings and French Pizzas!
stumblin distance from the hotel is always nice
-
missed a call from Burnt Eyes!
I'll reach out to him later or tomorrow while I'm on the road

We talked last night actually.

he mentioned that
It's the reason I got a call
thanks

Couldn't forget if I wanted to. I probably have early hearing loss because of her.
-
Well now I'm doubly sorry I missed this place.
-
me too
gotta be better the 2nd time when I'm there

Are you a tall blonde loudmouth?
-
Are you a tall blonde loudmouth?
no, but nowadays that's not a huge problem to overcome. do i have to be attractive or just blonde?
-
just tall & blonde

Having never been to one of these things, what's the general protocol? I.e. do spouses come? And if they do, do they have anything to do, or do they just sit and grouse about us all? :57:
-
I'll let someone else answer since I've not a spouse
but, I've enjoyed the spouses that have attended
just be ready to party and talk football
-
I brought my wife, and two friends also flew in the year in Nashville that helped the spouse significantly. Other time I was solo.
-
I’m bringing my husband and he’s never been. But fairly recently married. It’s fine to bring a spouse. There are no rules here. It’s about friends and good times and this game we all love.
-
My wife and I were discussing a trip to Nashville sometime in the not-so-distant future. She got her masters degree from Vanderbilt, and loved being there. We went the first year of our relationship (December 2017) and had a great time. I will bring this up with her in the near future.
Sam's Place is no longer there, but then again the city has changed so much in the last 20 years it's quite likely that not much of where we went last time is still there.
As for dates, I would prefer a November date. Our Gopher football attendance schedule is extremely front loaded next year. We may be going to games the first 7 weeks. 5 home games, a roadie at Michigan which is 15 minutes from my in laws, and what may be the only time the Gophers play in Rose Bowl Stadium in the next decade.
Even though it has been 14 years since we heard from that banshee in the bar, my ears have not yet fully recovered from the damage. A few years ago at one of the Iowa games, a woman a short distance behind our seats was screeching like that banshee. She had to be an Iowa fan.
-

The whole thing is about as organized as we are here. Folks try and communicate where they are headed and when, and at times 2-3 groups may drift in different directions.
-
November would work for me
golf courses in Iowa are closed - could play golf in Nashville
the only November game in Lincoln I'm interested in would be the Badgers on 11/23
-
If SunDevilFroggy really isn't around anymore, I may or may not have stories from the last Nashville trip that we agreed never to talk about with others.
I'm not the same as I was back then and I have significant difficulty getting around and doing normal things, but if the trip winds up being when Texas plays there, I might try to bite the bullet and take Mrs. DeTiger....er....Mrs. DeLonghorn to the game and meet up with everyone again. We'll see.
As for spouses, I know at least Mrs. 847 came to a couple, and she was a blast.
I still talk to Erin, SDF, and Buckeyecraaazy, they might want to know about this as well, so I'll pass it along to them. Also LilDawg, who predates my time here but I wound up meeting her anyway. Erin and her husband like to travel and go to sports events, they may be all about it.
-
Depending on the weekend you pick- I think it would be a blast. I have been spitballing with you folks since somewhere around 2006, give or take, and have never met in person.
I would def bring my girl. She is into CFB. “ thastsa a bullshit call! These refs wouldn’t know holding from a fricken square dance!”
-
Mrs. 847 never missed one.
My wallet took a hit in Nashville when she and Buckeye Crazy decided to go shopping for a little while...
-
There's a good chance we'll be in. Prefer the early Nov timeframe as we're looking at doing an Ireland trip in Sep/Oct...
-
Easy drive for me. Nov is swell.
-
Due to kids and COVID shutdowns, a game at Vandy was my most recently attended football game for over 3 years :03:
-
Due to kids and COVID shutdowns, a game at Vandy was my most recently attended football game for over 3 years :03:
They've converted it into a construction site since you've been there.
-
only a 12hr drive for me
I could cut it to 8 hours if I work it into a work trip to SE Iowa
-
talked to Burnt Eyes this afternoon
He's doin well and plans to be in Nashville for the Board Meeting
-
I might be able to swing it if it coincides with the Texas-Vandy game. If not, then my discretionary travel dollars will likely need to be spent elsewhere.
But I'm sure hopeful it can work out!
-
My team not playing in a board meeting game never played a factor, nor did missing a home game when I had tickets.
You go for the people and if you're lucky enough to have your team there, well good. If not, TV is an option.
Some of those times I and others never even went to the stadium. More fun to hang out with the board in some bar, somewhere.
-
Yup, but I think the Texas game would be more of an event around the stadium.
-
Rabid Rattlesnake Boy might be able to make it.
He's about 4 and a half hours by car
I haven't talked to him about it yet, but I will.
-
Yup, but I think the Texas game would be more of an event around the stadium.
Nashville doesn't need CFB to be an event. That's the point of Nashville.
We've been to 3 Texas games.
2 Auburn and 2 Nebraska.
2 Wisconsin as well, but I hosted those.
Venues have been
Madison (PSU) (I went to game)
Austin (Nebraska)
Lincoln (Texas)
Nashville (Florida)
Missouri (Texas)
Madison (Michigan) (I went to game)
Fayetteville (Auburn) (I went to game)
Atlanta (SECCG)
Knoxville (Auburn)
2013 was the last one. Pretty Texas.
-
I passed on the message to SDF, BuckeyeCrazy, UTerin, and LilDawg. All were interested in further details once things are solidified.
-

I will attend this one, but I really doubt I will go to the game
-
I recall one in Madison being the ASU game w Brock O was qb, no?
-
I will attend this one, but I really doubt I will go to the game
Yeah, I doubt that we'd go to the game. Watching a team I don't care about (Vandy) get curb-stomped by a team I also don't care about (insert random SEC opponent here) doesn't seem to be worth the ticket prices, esp as it'd be x2.
Hanging out at a bar with the board folks would be a lot more fun.
-
I'll message Roadawg and JHetfield.
-
And on that note, where's @integrinB4 (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=1594) -- he's the only one of you I've ever actually met lol...
-

especially if there's a big screen showing Matt Rhule in Season #2!

No board meeting for that one - just a few of us randoms.
That's happened before too.
Wasn't an official board meeting, but several of us were in Madison one time. I'm sure @eltigrerex (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=1580) is still tired from it.

speaking of tk, i'll let him know we're planning a meeting. still talk some from time to time.
-
I still text the K-State boys, Forever and SkiCat, from time to time, but I'd be shocked if they would even entertain the thought.
Kinda lost track of K-State Lady - she would have a great time.
KSBears might be up for something like this
-
THOUGHT OF THE DAY:
"I would hope that all educated citizens would fulfill this obligation—in politics, in Government, here in Nashville, here in this State, in the Peace Corps, in the Foreign Service, in the Government Service, in the Tennessee Valley, in the world. You will find the pressures greater than the pay. You may endure more public attacks than support. But you will have the unequaled satisfaction of knowing that your character and talent are contributing to the direction and success of this free society." - John F. Kennedy
-
This makes my day! Thanks for the heads-up, rtf. I will be there.
I'm suddenly overcome with the urge to see if I can dig up the power point packages I put together for them. If any of y'all still have them, please forward them back to me or dm me here.
Those crazy trips are some of the best journeys of my life--and yes, badge, the legendary romp through Madison... I'm still tired :57:
-
I've got the Austin and Nashville power points on my hard drive somewhere. If your email hasn't changed I'll send them along shortly.
-
I possibly still have some of these too. I know is have write ups. I’ll look for pictures.
I concur with TK. These were some of the best times of my life. I love these people.
Can’t wait to see you folks.
-
best post I've read all week!
-
P.S. The CFN Volume Epic series is on the CFN’ers “BookFace” page, along with some of TK’s other write ups.
-
I don't have Bookface anymore. May have to rent a reel-to-reel in Nashville so we can all watch.
-
Look at the names on this thread. A veritable Who's Who of internet royalty!
-
2024 SEC Football schedules will be unveiled as part of a schedule release show on ESPN/SECN later this evening. We’ll learn the weekend date for Texas @ Vanderbilt.
If I can time it with my usual East Coast work travel I’d like to add a stop through Nashville to meet some of you. Approx 15 years since I stepped foot in Nashville. (Clarksville/Ft Campbell was a place/base my enlistment years passed me through.)
-
vandy schedule
Aug. 31: Virginia Tech
Sept. 7: Alcorn State
Sept. 14: at Georgia State
Sept. 21: at Missouri
Sept. 28: Open
Oct. 5: Alabama
Oct. 12: at Kentucky
Oct. 19: Ball State
Oct. 26: Texas
Nov. 2: at Auburn
Nov. 9: South Carolina
Nov. 16: Open
Nov. 23: at LSU
Nov. 30: Tennessee
looks like decent opponents throughout season.
-
Late October works for me
-
Oct. 26: Texas
So let it be written, so let it be done.....
-
Only if my longhorn buddies commit
-
Are they all members of CFN at one point or another? That's the point of these.
We've seen more Texas than any other school.
Does it have to be Texas? Can it not be another team?
Does there even have to be a game in town? Like, November 16? It's Vandy...
Hotels would be less expensive than if we went for Texas or Bama, etc.
-
picking a particular game is worth it IMO if it causes more attendance by our group.
if the Texas game would encourage Utee94, UTerin, Longhorn320, MikeDeTiger, Mr. Tulip, Burnt Eyes and others that would be a reason
same goes for any other game for any other group of fans
I'm for picking the weekend that the largest number will attend
-
To be honest, it doesn't matter to me if there is a game or not. I don't think I'd go to the game.
Ideally it'll be easier for me if it's a weekend that I don't have the kids tho... Which is Oct 26 and Nov 9. If I have to swap weekends it's harder and there's always the (unlikely) chance that my ex will have a conflict. Which just happens to also both be weekends with Vandy home games.
-
I'd vote Nov 9th. Oct 26 is high likelihood of conflicts for me I bet .
Not that I'm an arbiter.
-
Date most likely doesn't matter for me, at least as things stand now. If I'm feeling physically capable of doing it, I'll do my best to make it whatever date y'all come up with.

Definitely don't choose a Texas game on my account. Folks should decide on the weekend that works best for their own schedules.
At this point in my life, the free time I have for travel, is generally committed to family trips that include the kids. With a 16 and 14 year old, I know my days of family trips are becoming limited, so I squeeze in as much as I can get. So even if y'all pick the Texas weekend, my odds of attendance are low.
But one day soon I'll be as free as a Rolling Stone.
-
I kinda figured as much
And I don't blame ya
-
we've had a couple suggestions for early November and Nov 9th in particular
Nov 9th the Cocks will be in town - I think it's a plus to have a gameday feel with fans
the 9th works well for Husker fans - bye week - don't even need to fight for a TV at the bar
We don't need to put ink on the calendar right away, but it might help some folks plan ahead

Big Red is also idle that day.
-
Man, y'all like to put these things on LSU/Bama day. I think Badger just likes to watch me boil, like crawfish. That, or he's in a hurry to catch another Bama Banshee. You know she's still there, somewhere.
-
candidly, watching high level college games with no rooting interest in a locale that is in the SEC sounds like a helluva lot of fun to me.
-
We've seen more Texas than any other school.
Just because I'm an agitator, I'd like to point out that I don't see what it matters which teams are playing locally since most of you say you aren't going to the game anyway. Whether it's Texas or some other team shouldn't matter if everybody is sitting in a bar watching whatever games they want anyway. I reckon the date should be considered strictly on whatever date everybody can make it, not based on Vandy's actual schedule. Hell, Vandy could be playing away and it'd amount to the same thing.

Correct. And hotel availability and pricing could be different.
-
Ed Zachery
we've had a few suggestions for Nov 9th.
Should we tentatively put this weekend on the calendar and wait a few months to get serious and start making reservations?
Or should we just wait a few months for other suggestions?
-
Nov 9 is probably the best of all possible options for me.
-
November 9 is the best weekend on my calendar as well.
-
Well, November 9th it is!
Until a better date is suggested.
I'm in!
-
So no Oct 26?
Was looking forward to another Longhorns game and a long awaited rematch:

But either way football is football.

I just spent 14 straight days with Longhorn fans
that's plenty for one year

We'd spend a ton of money on Uber staying that far out of town.
-
Those packages may come with a mandatory time share presentation.
-
Oh, and we'll be driving, so there will be some transport available for another couple if we stay nearby. I'm a Hilton member, probably will use that chain.
-

probably not for me then
I also plan the drive the Impala - ample backseat

Hampton by Vandy is good.

Well, November 9th it is!
Until a better date is suggested.
I'm in!
Well, that means I will have to do some saving up to go to this - my first ever! Plus it's on my 70th birthday, so I just gotta, ya know! Maybe I can talk my daughter and son-in-law to come down from Kentucky. Biggest problem will be getting my hubby to agree to go; he is really not a social animal of any kind and definitely not sports minded either. Any suggestions for a good museum or two he could go to?
-
The state Capitol is actually kind of a museum. It's pretty neat I thought.
-
I've heard that there are many things to do in that area.
Hope you can make it
-
Silly me, I didn't even think of the Grand Ol Opry, lol. That would be fun (for me, at least)- Hubby is really into natural history museums and things like that, so I will have to check into what all is around there. Keeping fingers crossed that my health issues do not throw a kink into the works; I'd like to make a long vacation out of it and drive to Civil War sites and into Kentucky to check out Argabright Hollow, which according to family history was named after one of my ancestors who built Argabright Fort there. Then again, being as it's going to be winter, I wouldn't be one bit surprised that we'll all be frozen solid or hunkering down for the next blizzard.
-
November 9th isn't too deep into winter - usually, hopefully

Franklin is a great place to go see Civil War stuff. About an hour away.
Carnton House was amazing.

Oh, and while in Franklin, eat at Puckett's. Best fried chicken ever.
-
Sounds like y'all are gonna have a blast!
On 11/9 I'll be schlepping marching band equipment on and off the field at the Alamodome for a super-regional high school marching band competition. Wish me luck!

We went to the Grand Ol' Opry a while back and my wife loved it, definitely wants a return visit. I thought it was kind of throw back interesting.

-
So you’re talking November 9th in Nashville correct?
what are you thinking- get in Friday out on Sunday?
-
Just an FYI, November 9 is not gonna happen for us. Family affair came up.
Month of October is almost completely out with tons of visitors coming.
-
Should we try a different date?
-
Well, I've already explained this to Burnt Eyes on the phone, but a board meeting is not in the cards for me.
I have coronary artery disease and hopefully looking at 3 stents. Or more likely a triple bypass.
I'm praying for stents. I'm not up for joining the zipper club at 57 years old, but I'll do it if it means staying alive, of course.
Say a prayer or three please.
Even you, @OrangeAfroMan (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=58) - I'll take it.

Sorry to hear, badge. Whatever good stuff I can put out in the universe for you is coming your way.
-
I knew I could trust in your faith. :)
-
good luck buddy!
stents work!
my ex=father-in-law that a quintuple bypass and stents 25 years ago and he's near 90 now
you'll be fine
a little scary obviously, but the docs are good at this
Git'R done!

Bastage, I'd pray to Kirby Smart himself if it meant your health is maintained or improved.
As it is, I trust that the doctors are knowledgeable and confident and that you're too stubborn to accept anything other than a full recovery.
Give it hell!

Praying for you buddy.
-
Thanks guys.
-
Praying for you too!

Had my echocardiogram today. The tech says things look OK, but she's not allowed to diagnose. Hopefully things look OK. I don't expect perfection at 57 y/o.

Keep us posted, brother.

I had my "minor" incident a few years back, got fixed up like new. We have two kidneys and two eyes and two ears etc., but that ticker is the reason we're alive.
When it doesn't work right, it's quite annoying, and worse.

I'm scheduled for hernia surgery on Nov. 6th at 6am
Guess I'm not going to make the board meeting
-
I don't think I've mentioned, but with other travel going on the rest of this year, I'm pretty sure I'm out on this one.

I went to work right after my hernia surgery.
-
been advised I shouldn't drive on the 6th
I'll be home resting and torturing you guys
advised not to be golfing for a couple weeks
that's why I'm waiting until November

So, this is looking dead at this point.
-
Unfortunately, I can't go either. I do think it's dead. Sorry.

Well, I just logged in to check on the status of this and to see when to book the hotel for. So first of all, Badge and Fearless, multiple prayers going up for you both. Badge, you have my number. Keep me posted on your heart.
If anything changes at all and we do this thing, someone call me. I’m so sad this isn’t happening.
-
it's a bummer

We'll make it happen next year.
Thank you for the well wishes @Razorchique (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=1574) . Let's talk soon.
