Title: Week 2 AP Poll
Post by: Mdot21 on September 05, 2023, 02:21:10 PM
Colorado debuts at #22. Ohio State drops a couple spots to #5. flip UNC and LSU imo. Clemson stays in it at #25.

I'd have FSU as #1. They not only beat #5 LSU - they pummeled them.

can't disagree. if it's a week to week poll based on the eye test from actual on the field results weighted for competition, well they're clear cut #1.

Eh, I get where you guys are coming from but I'm hesitant to describe that result as a pummeling when:
I get that FSU ran away in the end but that game was very close and very interesting up until about halfway through the fourth quarter. I'm not confident that FSU would duplicate that fourth quarter domination if they played nine more times.

Mich, PSU and Wisc rankings are unchanged this werk

Iowa and TCU  drop out of AP poll.  Iowa drops to #26 in both AP and coaches poll.

Minn got some votes this week and ILL still is getting 1 vote after escaping Toledo.

Texas wins, two teams ranked ahead of Texas lose, and Texas remains unchanged at #11.

I actually like that.

Horns looked okay but not elite against an overmatched opponent.  Still a lot to prove.  We'll know a lot more after going to Tuscaloosa on Saturday.

I’d go 2 here. Until Georgia gives me a reason to think they can lose again.

1. Georgia
2. FSU
3. Bama
4. Michigan
5. OSU
15. Colorado

How can it be this if there's a preseason poll? lol

I think it's possible FSU is very good.

I also reckon LSU was massively overrated at #5.

I detailed a couple of thoughts on the SEC board, but I was talking to some of you here earlier this year--or maybe last season?--trying to settle in my head why and how Brian Kelly got the perception people have of him.  iirc, I said conventional wisdom says that Kelly is a good coach but Notre Dame has a ceiling, and that he would kill it at a place like LSU.  So I looked at recruiting rankings and discovered Notre Dame had actually recruited comparably to LSU, and I asked if any of you had any opinions on whether Kelly + LSU = Awesome or whether it's all unfounded hype.

I don't actually remember what y'all said.  However, game 1 of year 2 looked exactly like year 1, which is not a good thing.  For various reasons, I don't see any evidence that the guy is a great coach, and I can't see him being the coach LSU thought they were getting.  A brief summary would go something like this:  the team has been uncharacteristically soft under him, both mentally and physically, he's badly misusing one of the greatest defenders I've ever seen in college, and not once in his 15 games here has there been any in-game adjustments to speak of....if the plan coming in doesn't work, too bad for us, because it ain't changing.  I'm not even convinced he's going to be able to recruit at the level of of his predecessors, although that remains to be proven over the long term.  I'm not saying he sucks....I think he'll safely keep us out of the cellar....but I don't think he's going to win any conference titles or NCs or anything.

As for the polls, we should know a little more after week 2.  Some of the big boys who had cupcakes in w1 will take a step up in competition.  Should be fun.
