Howdy everyone. With Minny/Nebraska and Michigan State giving us a taste, today is middle aged man Christmas, the first full college football day of the year. My wife is off on a girl's trip. I'm about the drop the younger kids off with my parents. The older kid is still around, but she drives and will probably do her own thing.
So not cooking anything. I've got a fridge full of Oktoberfest and plenty options from Doordash. Are we thinking wings? Pizza? Pizza and wings? Shoot, maybe I'll dash a few different things. Can you get them to stop multiple places?

Not gonna cook today either. Got stuff to do in town so will probably put in a Lou Malnati's pizza. That's always good.

LOL I should do that just to see the wife's reaction to seeing the entire freezer filled with pizza.
They have a couple other deep dish places. Columbus is obsessed with old world pepperoni, which I'm not really a huge fan of, so I gotta figure out how to avoid it. The last one I got tasted like a salt lick, even if everything else was good.

We have a fridge in the garage, so it's not too bad.
I wonder how long that fridge will last. Prior owner bought in 2018 for the kitchen, but we bought a set of appliances in 2020 so that fridge went to the garage. It works hard out there, I'm sure.

Yeah the Horns are on Fox so I'm good there, but the Ags are on ESPN tonight. I'm gonna have to figure something out for that one, probably end up doing the YoutubeTV free trial.

What a weak slate of games today. Blech.
Will probably settle on UC-B/TCU for the morning, although I'm heading out to hit the driving range around that time as well. Working on some things after a lesson and want a tune up before I play 18 tomorrow.
In the 12:30 PT slate I suppose I'll watch the Hoosiers get pummeled. That's always a good time. They should be down about 3-4 scores by the time my fantasy football draft starts at 2:30... So that'll take my attention.
4:30 I guess WVU/PSU is probably the best option?
Tonight we're making Tallarin Saltado con Carne. First time trying to make this at home, but I love it at the local Peruvian joint.

Hanging in there. It’s been a year I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, but getting there. Brain surgery is no joke and I thought I’d be back to normal in a few months and there may be some permanent adjustments but I’m very lucky that some of things that could have happened did not so I count my blessings every day.

The answer, as Fearless pointed out, is-- not really. They started doing it just to force the Cowboys into wearing their "unlucky" blues, more of a poke in the eye than anything else. Over time, they started doing it more frequently but I don't think they do it every week.
I've always thought that at least in the South during the early season, it makes a lot of sense to wear white at home and force your opponent into the hotter dark jerseys. Might be why LSU does it.

Same here. No Disney. Just now waking up and flipping on Colorado/TCU. Why waking so late? It’s only 6am here in Honolulu. Work has me on the Islands for a construction project this past week.
Last night went to Hawaii’s home opener Vs Stanford. A campus stadium, that’s like a high school stadium, rushed together after their Pro Bowl stadium was condemned. $38 got me a seat bordering the student section.
Hawaii is better than last year but Stanford was too much, winning 37-22. Despite their methodical win, Stanford doesn’t look ready to match Oregon or USC. Backfield is just too slow, plays taking way too long to develop.
And yes, there are Mai Tai mixes in the mini fridge.

Iowa QB Cade McNamara, a transfer from Michigan, has thrown 2 TD passes in the 1Q.
One TD to WR Seth Anderson, a transfer from a small school. One TD to TE Eric All, a transfer from Michigan. Iowa's offense is being helped out big time by the transfer portal this year.
Meanwhile on the definsive side, Iowa starting DL Noah Shannon and starting CB j. Harris are not playing today due the gambling investigation. Iowa does not have it's usual deep bench at CB this year and that could hurt it against good passing teams.

TCU only returned 3 offensive starters from last year's Cinderella team, and they lost a lot of their defensive production as well. Most folks predicted they'd finish in the middle of the B12 this year.
That said, CU is playing good, disciplined football. They are much improved over recent years. I think they're pretty thin so I'd expect TCU to start asserting themselves in the 4th, but so far Colorado looks impressive.

The Boilermakers were starting the 3rd string Center (because of injury to #1 and 2). He is now injured. There is no such thing as a 4th string Center so I don't know exactly what we are starting at this position now.

Clearly blind buffoons announcing the Michigan game. I don’t always love the targeting call, but that was blatantly a very late hit and clearly directly into the head of MCCarthy. That seemed nothing like an in the moment hit and not enough time to slow down. It was well after he threw the ball and #5 went upward towards his head.

Day has gone somewhat well. Slept like garbage, but was up early. Managed to pick up some cheaper gas, no easy feat, then a spot of time at the gym.
Wandered over to a football rally thing in town. Hung for a bit. Then off to pick up a packet for a run tomorrow. They gave me a coupon for a free side that became part of lunch. Then home, watching ball, took a little nap (my resting heart rate is out of control this afternoon). Now gotta get a bit cleaned up to drop by the UW bar for a bit and then to a tailgate before attending an evening game.
Gonna be a long night.

Minter pulled JJ after the 6th possession midway through the 3rd QTR and they went into conservative run mode. I don’t know if the backup QB attempted more than 2 passes.

Yeah, the play-by-play guy is just factually wrong again and again. it's odd. Like he's sorting through paperwork, assuming the outcome of the play. His voice is fine but he's been overtly incorrect several times (like very wrong, not just saying 3 yard gain on a 4 yard play).
Klatt is just a Skip Bayless in the booth. Saying gibberish to get attention from the sheep herd masses.

I like some defense sprinkled in but considering the Buffs were 1-11 and TCU played of all the marbles this is huge.Confidence is a major factor moving forward

After jumping out to a quick 14-0 lead early in the 1Q, Iowa turns back into itself and hangs on for 24-14 win over Utah St.
Cade McNamara threw 2 TD passes in the 1Q and then the offense shut down. Iowa rushing attack was terrible. The OL looked ok on psssing downs but awful on running downs.
The Iowa defense needs some work too despite only giving up 14 points.
Iowa overall has a lot to clean up before it goes to Ames next week to play Iowa St.

Not that bad. Defense looks solid. Especially considering they would never have prepared for the option. DBs look excellent
McCord has been pretty accurate. Just made one bad decision- that is standard for a new QB.
Their biggest challenge is the offensive line is not in sync. They are moving people- but missing assignments- seems like someone is unblocked on running plays. Again- standard fare with a new line.
Hoosiers doing a great job of milking the clock- smart strategy.

Badger's two-headed dragon of RBs Braelon Allen & Chez Mellusi is too much for a scrappy Buffalo team to stay in front of. Madison's homecrowd rocking the stadium after Mellusi rips off a TD for 89 yards to include three impressive cut backs. Good transfer pickup from Clemson.
I like how not to be outdone, Braelon Allen takes over the next drive to pound the ball for 56 yards and a TD.
And after what looked like a slow first half - Wisconsin only up 13-10 - we're nearing the 4th quarter and the Badgers D has only allowed Buffalo to convert a single 3rd down into a first down.
Badgers up 28-10 to finish the 3rd.

This game reminds me plenty of Penn State early 2019 game Vs Pittsburgh. Despite all their advantages, Penn State only managed a 17-10 home win.

You may be correct, but it is far too early to make that determination.
I think Coach day just wanted to get him comfortable playing today. As I predicted before the game, it would be bumpy because- even though the offensive line did a great job in pass protection, they did not help out at all on run blocking. And Day- for reasons I think I understand- called an extremely conservative game- especially the run game. He repeatedly ran into the boundary or into the teeth of a run blitz. And- as everyone knew-Indiana was all in on stopping the run.
McCord threw some beautiful balls and several were dropped. His best throw- TD to Harrison- didn’t even count. McCord does tend to lock on first read- but what new Qb doesn’t?

That being said, he has a lower ceiling than previous qbs at osu from my early guesses. Again, that could be wrong, but watching JJ early on, you could see he was early in his career with little experience, but he also had moments that were wow factors and you could see the ceiling being high.
on the flip side, there was Cade McNamara. His talent ceiling wasn’t as high, but he was efficient, made incredibly wise decisions and his coaching staff put risk thresholds into the game plan and it worked.
I didn’t dislike Cade, but I never thought his talent level was enough to win it all. As UGA was only only ESPN Plus, we went to a local sports bar at half time of the OSU/Indy game. The place was pretty raucus, some Wisconsin fans, about 15 of them, occupied part of it, they were fun. I didn't expect it to be as loud, but it was fine.
The good part is we could see every game happening at the time, including PSU/WVU and CU/TCU etc.
I thought PSU looked pretty decent. UNC got'er done. I thought TCU might pull it out but it was last one with the ball kind of game really. We should however all over react to whatever happened.
*I didn't realize how hammered he had gotten. After some bar hopping and then dinner where he insisted on order a bottle of Vueve Cliquot, then he wanted some Hennessy XO, so we walked to a bar that has it in the Four Seasons, my wife went home, and then he ordered two rounds for us each at $51 per. He may be shocked when his credit card bill shows up. Then we got back here and he wanted another bottle of wine so we shared that one and finally he went to bed. I watched a bit more baseball and turned in feeling OK, drank some water and was fine.

Yeah, any MSU fans who are pissy about it, better get used to it. This is what they've turned college football into. MSU finds an underrated 3* kid, he'll leave. So MSU needs to go steal a kid from Wake Forest or UConn, who should have been a 3*, and then Wake or UConn can go steal a kid from Temple.
But that is why the portal has narrowed the window. MSU's window was finding underrated 3* recruits, who played like 4/5* recruits. Now, when they do that, that kid will just leave for a helmet anyway. That's why unless you are a fan of like a dozen schools, you better not get too worked up about winning trophies, because they took a stacked system, and stacked it even more in favor of the helmets, because the tv networks control everything. It's why they took like 30 plays out of games this year, and unlike baseball, which used it to speed up games, college football just added commercials.

Don’t think he ever loved it more than anything or was truly obsessed with it- he just happened to be freakishly good at it. He was born into a wealthy family, his father was a former NFL player and successful business man and I think his mom or stepmom was a doctor or something like that. He never had to struggle for $ growing up and he came from the era where the first rookie contract in the NFL was a payday if you were a top 5 pick. They didn’t change the rookie wage scale thing til like 5-6 years later.
I remember hearing Michael Irvin say he used to bust his ass because he was always worried about having to go back to the ghetto. Braylon got a $40 million contract as a rookie and don’t think he ever worried about shit growing up.

I will say you can tell that FSU is relying on 2 transfer WRs. Raw talent does a TON at WR, but I think there are moments when things break down that you need to be able to read each other. Hell, Coleman wasn't even there for spring ball.

They can spend on both if they want to. Granted, I think they will trend spending towards football. MSU, IU and Purdue should rightfully put NIL money towards basketball, because all 3 have limited resources, and more care and clout in basketball.

Will say what I pointed at last year, except it’s even more obvious this time around. Trevor Lawrence and Deshaun Watson singlehandedly masked how lazy and one-dimensional Clemson’s offense was dating back to 2015.
To see DJ Uiagalelei tank last year only to transfer out to Oregon State and light it up yesterday for a 199.9 RTG tells you it wasn’t all him holding back Clemson’s offense.
And for Clemson to replace their OC for an overhauled offense only to look this bad against friggin’ Duke means Clemson’s troubles run even deeper than I thought. No longer the ACC’s untouchables.

I've seen some examples over the past year WRT Wisconsin. They have yet to lose and impact player. Every player that transferred in makes, or will make, an impact.
For example, USC came hard for Braelon Allen. He stayed. The culture in Madison is alluring to kids.

they were billed as a top 10 team, top 2 contender for the ACC title and potential playoff team. they ain't that. FSU is going to run away with the ACC and meet little to no resistance there.
but clemson has way too much talent on the roster to be horrible or unranked. probably an 8-4 type team this year ranked in the bottom of the top 25.

I didn't get the job done, I didn't do good enough job coaching. instead...he immediately threw his players under the bus after the game (like he always does after a loss) and then when asked by local media (who are obviously upset with him over the loss and have an agenda) about saying something he clearly said on his radio show- anyone can hear it- he literally said it- plain as day- the guy flat out said I didn't say that and I would never say something like that. just more or less shows you how gigantic of a doucher that guy is.

it's not even a big deal that he said that....like you'd expect a coach to think they were going to win the game and be confident in his team. it's just freaking weird man. he could easily just say i was confident in the team, in myself....i let the team down...i didn't coach the team, i did a bad job, i'm going to do better.

yes. that was also extremely weird. his first introduction to the LSU fans at a basketball game or something the dude went full cajun and did some fake ass louisiana bayou accent.
my guess is he recruits well because of his assistant coaches and he's at places like ND and LSU- which can get you in any living room for any recruit in America. you can at least be in the convo and get on top 10 lists for recruits at places like that. then of course at LSU in Louisiana you usually have the pick of the litter.
