I've only heard two names mentioned to date:
Sherrone Moore, Michigan OC
Tommy Rees, Alabama OC
Of those two Rees would seem the better fit at NW given his ND background and having grown up in the area.
-
I saw some Ed Orgeron
-
If they are trying to get a new coach in place for the season, that is a terrible idea.
-
well, keeping the current staff appears to be terrible as well
-
I have heard the suggestion they should try to reach out to Jim Leonhard, the former Wisc assistant who filled in as interim head coach last year . Last I heard he had not accepted any new coaching position.

No. I don't want any part of seeing him back in the Big Ten.

just stirring the pot

Orgeron would be an awful hire for NW. Reminiscent of Kansas hiring Les Miles. Or Charlie Weis. Except even more of a cultural mismatch.
As overpraised as Jim Leonhard is, he'd be a good hire for NW but NW would be a bad first gig for him.
-
I don't think Jimmy is overpraised at all. He's an excellent DC. One thing I do know is he absolutely does like recruiting. That showed on the back end of the defense against teams with good/elite receivers.

Haven't followed this but FITZ got canned damn how bad was it

Other names not previously mentioned:
Brian Hartline, Buckeye OC
Paul Chryst, Former Wisconsin HC
Mike Elko, Duke HC
Willie Fritz, Tulane HC
Mike Kafka, Giants OC

Paul Chryst doesn't seem to want to be a head coach anymore. He doesn't embrace the new ways. He mailed it in for his last 2-3 seasons. Seems like the game has passed him by.

No interest from Hartline. He made that clear really quickly.

I can't imagine being a head coach at the college level. The sport has always lacked the things that bring parity to pro sports (draft / salary cap), so it was a constant recruiting grind to convince impressionable teens to come play for you--especially hard when you lack "helmet".
But now with the transfer portal and NIL, the lack of a "salary cap" means that if you're not a well-funded "helmet" you have an even bigger uphill battle, in that not only do you have to new recruit players to come play for you while annually re-recruiting the players on your roster who might believe they can earn NIL riches if they leave you.
It's like Vegas. The helmets are The House, and The House always wins.
I'm surprised more coaches don't just say "F it, I'm rich enough" and go do something else. Especially old-school coaches.
-
NU would be wise to kick the tires on Dan Enos, the OC at Arkansas. Was head coach at Central MI and has also worked under some good head coaches. He's 55, from the Midwest. Played QB at MSU.

I saw some Ed Orgeron
They'd be picking a jury pool if he was put on the same staff as Les Miles. Speaking of jury pools,Haven't really been following this Fitzpatrick fiasco did he do something really egregious?

Northwestern is expected to hire veteran coach Skip Holtz as the special assistant to the head coach for the 2023 season, sources told ESPN on Monday.
Holtz's assignment is temporary for the upcoming months and won't interfere with his USFL job as the head coach of the Birmingham Stallions, according to ESPN sources.
-
Sherone Moore would be dumb to take that job. He just keeps doing what he's doing where he's at, he'll get a much better job than that in the very near future.

That’s not a terrible idea. Granted those special assistant to the head coach don’t really do anything, but they’re nice to have. Good voices in the room
-
and if the head coach fails miserably...... they can take the wheel

So, the season is almost upon us, right?

Huskers started fall practice yesterday!
