Title: Games You Plan On Attending This Fall 2023
Post by: CatsbyAZ on June 13, 2023, 07:05:27 PM
Penciling in the following:

Sept 9: Oklahoma St @ Arizona State – ASU’s Coach Dillingham era kicking off

Sept 16: Wyoming @ Texas - For a weeklong trip to Texas I’m hoping to finally catch a Longhorns home game

Sept 23: Auburn @ Texas A&M – And why not A&M while I’m at it, thanks to my Auburn booster friendsreally not sure how these teams will look this year, this matchup should set the course for both

Nov 4: UCLA @ Arizona – last Wildcats/Bruins matchup before UCLA joins the Big Ten, a few UCLA friends of mine will be joining me for their first trip to Tucson; My UA tailgating friends are on notice to roll out the red carpet

Throw in a San Diego State home game and a bowl that should do it for 2023.

We're probably renewing our tailgate party for a one-day-only-event for that Wyoming game in Austin.

Other than that I'm not sure I'll go to any home games, but I'm definitely planning on TX-OU at the Cotton Bowl.

We got two big drums now.  Poor Purdue relegated to 3rd.

Nothing planned at the moment, but I may do a bowl game down here.

I might think of going to some Tech game, I can walk to it, and I've considered a Georgia State game.  As for UGA, probably not.

Really, I enjoy lounging here with access to whatever I want watching games on the tube, which isn't a tube any more.

UGA home slate is UT-Martin, Ball State, South Carolina, UAB, Kentucky, Mizzou, Ole Miss, not really that exciting to me.

All the Gopher home games, and there are some good ones (Nebraska, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin).

Not sure if there are any other road games I'm going to.

Wanted my first Longhorns home game to involve a more formidable opponent. Like last season my plan was to catch the Texas November home game Vs TCU. But the group I'm going with this September wants to time it with Austin's MLS team playing the Portland timbers the next day. And anyway, it works well enough to stay in Texas through the next weekend for my annual Auburn game, this one their road game Vs A&M, a new team and home venue for me to experience.

Yup sounds like a great plan.  The reason we're doing the tailgate then, is actually BECAUSE the opponent is less desirable, so tailgate space will be less contested and easier to set up.

Austin FC games are a lot of fun, I'm sure you'll have a good time there.

And Kyle Field is a good place to watch a college football game, the fans are pretty nice-- as long as you're not wearing burnt orange of course. :)

If you're going to be in CenTex for a full week and want any recs on what to do, feel free to let me know.

The only game I plan to attend thus far:

A 10-hour drive to Pittsburgh requires planning. A 1.25 hour drive to Iowa City, or 2.25 hour drive to Madison, can be planned on one-day notice.

I usually try to get to one non-con and one B1G game for IU. They've got Louisville in Lucas Oil on 9/16 which looks like fun but is also my daughter's birthday. She is decidedly not a football fan. Maybe her mom will want to celebrate with her that day......

Rutgers at home on 10/21 looks like a good option for the B1G game. Winnable, not too cold. Maybe MSU on 11/18 as well.

How old is the daughter? Is she still young enough to mold?
Louisville @ Indiana in Lucas Oil does sound like an interesting matchup, at an interesting venue.

18. Will be 19 on that day. Way past the moldable stage.

Honestly, probably better NOT to introduce her to Hoosier football. Because IU.

I ended up missing the Texas-Wyoming game but making it for the Texas-Texas Tech game.  That was fun.  And of course TX-OU at the Cotton Bowl, where the outcome of the game was not so fun, but the State Fair is always a great time for the family and kids.

The only game I plan to attend thus far:

  • Florida State @ Pitt - 11/4/2023

A 10-hour drive to Pittsburgh requires planning. A 1.25 hour drive to Iowa City, or 2.25 hour drive to Madison, can be planned on one-day notice.
I went to the game. For over half the game it looked like an Iowa game with stout defense and very little scoring. FSU stepped things up a bit in the 2nd half.
I carried the Des Moines Register as a kid and in the Big Peach sports section on Sundays they had photos from high above the end zones with a series of photos showing the big plays on which Iowa scored, and crediting the blocking and running with bubble narratives. So I had took this series at FSU @ Pitt, with no bubble narratives:

The FSU fan dressed in Pitt colors finally alighted as he at last perceived the culmination of a scoring drive.

The Goodyear blimp hovered over us.
