Hey @OrangeAfroMan (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=58) and @Cincydawg (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=870) what is your take on this?
https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/34871397/kirby-smart-recruiting-concerns-factor-florida-georgia-neutral-site-debate
-
I'm ambivalent. I understand the point on recruiting, and Smart certainly struggles to get a good recruiting class.
-
I loved going to WLOCP. About as much as RRS.
-
Usually, whichever team is losing the most lately talks about moving it to home-and-home. In lieu of doing that, for Smart's recruiting point, I'd work on simply changing the rule.
The rule seems like they didn't know what to do and didn't want teams with an annual neutral site game to go crazy with it and have an advantage, so they just shut it down.
.
A simple, nuanced rule would take care of everything. Each school should just pick a Jacksonville-area location as a 'home site host' place, which serves as a replacement for their home stadium. There can't be any shortage of decked-out UF and UGA alumni with posh spots that could do it. Or if that's no good, have the universities purchase a site to be the hosting home-away-from-home.
.
Making it home-and-home is just the most easy, direct route because the current contract ends in '23.

I've never been to either but I've contemplated that someday, post retirement, I'd love to hit some of the more well known CFB games. Bother RRS and WLOCP would be on my list along with:
- An Iron Bowl
- ND at USC
- Harvard/Yale
- Army/Navy

I've also done 2 and 3. Though 2 was at ND.
-
UGA only gets four true "real" home games per year (I don't count Kent State in that).
-

For the Iron Bowl either location would be ok, but I'd prefer Tuscaloosa.
For ND/USC it would have to be late November in SoCal. I've seen lots of fall football in the Midwest on lots of campuses.
Harvard/Yale could be either place.
For Army/Navy I'd love to see a game at Michie but they haven't played Army/Navy on campus since WWII.
-
Army/Navy should be played at Gettysburg every year to commemorate our victory over the British after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor!
-
would be cool if there were annual OOC home-and-home games with B1G/SEC every year. Let's all start new rivalries. To hell with ever playing Notre Dame ever again. I'd be cool with playing Florida every single year, home and home. Penn State can take on Bama. Ohio State can take on Georgia. Let's do it.

Like most here, I like P5 OOC games of note, but I'd rather rotate opponents and play different programs over time. UGA had a pretty solid OOC slate until Texas and Oklahoma ran off.

Bulljive.
Florida is getting Wisconsin.
Michigan gets Vandy.
Actually... never mind.
UW will take Vandy.
Nashville is a much better Ville than Gainsville.

Texas-Michigan works for me. Make it so #1.
-
Also, didn't we determine a couple months ago when this first came up, that there's not actually an SEC rule against this? Back when people fist started mentioning it would be a problem for TX-OU, and then some deeper diving revealed that there isn't a rule against it?
If the schools truly want to go home-and-home, fine. I get that it's easier and more straightforward to host recruits at home, but it's not a rule.

You don't want 95 degrees with 95% humidity inland, with no breeze?? Come on down! We'll make it a 3:30 game, just for you!
I nearly passed out once, from constantly yelling on defense and having my big orange afro wig on. Had to take a few plays off.

In my case I'd have to come on UP.
-
I'd really like to attend this game some day. Neutral site games split 50/50 are a lot of fun, especially if it's a heated rivalry. Every single down played, having exactly 50% of the fans feeling tortured anguish, and the other 50% feeling extreme jubilation, is something you have to experience in person, it can't be described adequately.
-
Dawg fans are expecting a win, but fearing that upset that would happen if they played like they did with Mizzou. AR could get loose and burn them. The spread is too large for me, but then it could also be a blowout. The venue question for me is a whatever, they'll do what they want, it could be a ploy to get Jville to pony up.

How about you guys come up here in late November? 20 degrees and blowing snow would be good for you guys.

B1G teams almost never play OOC games late in the season.

To get Florida in Madison.. exceptions would be made.

Dibs on Ohio State.
Campus is a crappy place to get out of in a timely manner after a game, but you'll love the tailgating.
uh....should be noted we've got all the heat and humidity of Gainesville, but the food's better. The tradeoff is that being aurally assaulted with Tom Petty is in fact better than being assaulted with Garth Brooks.

I don't understand what TP or GB have to do with LSU-tOSU, but okay?

I'd take LSU.
Scoreboard!!
-
One benefit of potential home quarterfinals is a SEC team that's never seen snow in their life being dispatched to the Hoth System in early December.
And I'd go to a tailgate at LSU or the Cocktail Party.

I recall it was cold in Indy for the finals last year.

It's a dome.

Y'all are about as off topic as a bunch of B12ers on a 4-day Tito's bender.
I approve.

Little early to be hitting the Tito's/Hippy Lettuce isn't it?

We're pairing B10 schools with SEC ones. There was talk of the drawbacks of Gainseville and I was noting we have the same drawbacks, but we have better food so as to entice OSU to come play us. Then I noted the tradeoff in being subjected to certain music throughout the game for picking us as opposed to Florida.
Tom Petty, being from Gainesville, gets played at Florida games since his death. It's a thing now, I think usually going into the 4th quarter...."I Won't Back Down." Garth Brooks "Calling Baton Rouge" gets played before, during, after, f*** if I know how often, at LSU games. Has for years.

Ah. I didn't know that. Although I can certainly understand that one particular Garth Brooks song being played a lot. I thought you meant more than that.
LHB plays "Yellow Rose of Texas" at every game. But it's just one time. They also play Wabash Cannonball each game, dating back to the early Darrell Royal years because he liked it and requested it.
-
We sing the alma mater at the end of the 3rd quarter, then "Won't Back Down"

I understand if OSU wants to duck Florida in an SEC/B1G challenge....need I link all the ways?
-
The funniest thing about UF latching on to him so hard is the lack of credible evidence Tom Petty ever gave two turds about football in general or the Florida Gators in particular. He did say after his superbowl halftime performance when asked who he was rooting for that they didn't care, they were Gators. His brother also says he'd watch Florida bowl games with him in later years, though more as a "let's hang out" rather than "I'm a fan." His family seems to be UF fans, so that's something I guess. At any rate, I'd claim him too. Tom Petty was a cool dude.

Ten most memorable games in Georgia-Florida football rivalry (espn.com) (https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/34882665/ten-most-memorable-games-georgia-florida-football-rivalry)
10. Nov. 1, 1997: Georgia 37, Florida 17
Under second-year coach Jim Donnan, the Bulldogs defeated the Gators, the defending national champions, for the first and only time when Spurrier was their coach. Georgia, a 20-point underdog, beat Florida for the first time since 1989 and denied Spurrier his 100th victory as a college coach. Georgia tailback Robert Edwards ran for 124 yards with four touchdowns. Spurrier played three different quarterbacks in the game after Doug Johnson was benched for throwing two interceptions in the first half. Noah Brindise and Jesse Palmer each threw picks in the second half. "I just want to say to all Dogs fans that we've been waiting a long time for this," Donnan said afterward. "Everybody has been telling me since I got there, 'I hope we can beat Florida.' I'm pleased we did."

Kind of amazing that since Spurrier left, Florida leads the series 11-9.
I would not have guessed that.
Urbs 'n Tebow are only 2 of those wins, as he lost in Jax during his Heisman year (noooo defense).

hence why the Dawgs have changed coaches
I think it was more related to wanting to "take the next step", and appearing to have plateaued with Richt, not Florida per se.
-
that's no way to talk "This week"
but, I'm sure eliminating a loss to Florida is a step in the right direction
-
I was a bit surprised to see UGA overcame a 20 point line in 1997 to win one. That worries me today.
This game worries me.
-
it should
-
Florida can only win if Richardson goes crazy cheat-code video game style on UGA. The passing vs Tennessee + the running vs Utah.
If UGA is smart and forces Florida to pass, I don't see how the Gators can win.
-
I'm sure the Dawg D will be keeping a close eye on AR. They did with Nix earlier, of course Nix is not as elusive as AR.
The Dawg D thus far has been better than I expected. They do need the offense to sustain drives, something they could not do against Mizzou.
-
The biggest letdown for me this year has been our defense. It still stinks. The pass-rush is always a day late and a dollar short.
Our DBs can't play zone for shit, but we're often playing zone. Brilliant. I thought the stupidity left with Grantham. They're good in man, except against slants.
-
I really disliked Grantham at UGA as DC. The defense was just overly complicated. They had some good players and a mediocre D.
-
He produced the worst defensive season in Florida history....and got to return! And still sucked! The fact that he didn't make major changes before he was the major change....defied belief.
-
Woof

Florida should punt on 1st downs and ask for a running clock. This is pointless.
