Some really good games today- all the way into the evening.

Mullet run is on so going to cast for an hour on the inter coastal before settling in for some football.

I'm interested in UCLA at Oregon.  I thought UCLA could finish 10-2 and they could be ahead of that if they win today.  I suppose an Oregon win aids the Dawgs some.  I doubt the Qs can stay with Clemmons.

don't think Oregon win helps Dawgs at all tbh. Georgia is in with 1 loss. All Georgia has to do is not lose more than 1 game and they are 100000% a lock to be in the playoff.

It’s really good during out going tide- which this morning happens to be roughly 10-12.   After that it dies hard.

works out nicely for the Hawkeyes v Buckeyes watching.

If they lose to Tennessee, they could miss the playoffs at 11-1 of the Vols win out, and then lose to Bama.  At any rate, it's a marginal benefit relative to just continuing to win.

Taking in my second ever game at the ‘Shoe today. Took in a few too many beers last night, but did get introduced to one of the best BBQ places in town.

My hosts usual tailgates are not happening today, so might be a brunch sort of morning.

Going to a pumpkin patch today with our godson. Said patch is a family farm owned/operated by an umpire friend of mine.

Tonight it's sweet potato soup and Detroit-style pizza for the Gopher game.

Sweet potato soup can be pretty good.  It's not my go to.  It tastes pretty much like liquified sweet potatoes with a lot of cream.

I like cabbage soup a lot, which is a pretty humble dish.

Waking up behind Big Ten lines this morning, specifically Indianapolis. Probably not catching a lot of games today with my cousin’s wedding tying me up. My aunt gave me a couch to crash on, which led to getting woken by nieces/nephews at 6am so they could watch Pokemon. Nice to wake up to a autumn setting, with red, orange, and yellow trees, and enough fallen leaves to rake the lawns.

Interesting how much Michigan’s schedule was trashed this year, then I decide to look at Tennessee’s. Today they play UT Martin and they also have thrown in the MAC with Ball St and Akron, Akron arguably the worst team in the MAC.

Where is all the national media attention on their schedule? They’re great because they beat Bama?

Nice to see a high level Pac game.

Basically, yes, and in part because they exceeded expectations.  They did play at Pitt, who isn't looking that great this year.  They beat LSU better than most expected (including me) and edged Florida in a game that wasn't that close until late.

I think Kentucky has a shot at winning next week though the game is in Knoxville.  If you get ahead early, obviously you diminish the impact of crowd noise a lot.

god damn that sounds good. the original Buddy's on 6 mile and Conant St still the best Detroit-style pizza I've ever had. For whatever reason, most of the other Buddy's in the Detroit area aren't as good...something is always a little bit off. Louie's definitely isn't as good as Buddy's. Neither is Cloverleaf. I've had some that were pretty good in NYC- this placed called Emmy Squared was good- and Austin had this place that was pretty good called Via 313- but still to me- nothing tops the original Buddy's on 6 mile in my opinion.

it's Michigan- they always get bashed and trashed and dissected 6 ways to Sunday in the media for no reason than most people in the media don't like Harbaugh bc he's a weird asshole who is rude and doesn't give a f&^k what they think and shows them little to no respect. Which let's face it- media doesn't really deserve any respect. Call it the Barry Bonds effect if you will.

And yeah- Tennessee is getting WAY too much hype right now for beating Bama. They'll be in a dog fight and might lose to Kentucky and Georgia will probably smoke them- Bama is lucky to have only one loss right now- they 100% would've lost to Texas if Quinn Ewers doesn't get knocked out of that game and they were literally like 3 yards away from losing to a pretty mediocre Texas A&M team. Bama is still really talented and really good- but they're very young and way too reliant on Bryce Young this year. Which- ain't a bad thing- that kid is freaking PHENOMENAL but he needs some more help from his OL/WRs and Bama's secondary doesn't look all that good this year.

If Henderson had a bigger lower and upper body and was stronger in breaking tackles I think the dude would be a 1st rd pick. He's just too small and goes down too easily. His moves and quickness and speed are great- just doesn't look big enough or strong enough. Williams is a bowling ball in comparison- that's a tough ass runner. Ohio State OL every bit as good as Michigan's if not better.

Both coaches find ways to lose games, so it should be interesting. Have a feeling like Penn State needs this one a lot more- and it's a White Out at home at night. I'd give Minny a much better shot if it was just a regular noon game- but that atmosphere is going to be HYPE and Penn State is backed in a corner. They need a W tonight to stop their season from falling off the rails with Ohio State coming in town next week.

Former OMG 5* DE Zach Harrison finally made a play! It's about time, only took him like 4 years. I kid, I kid. He's a freaky athlete, hasn't really done jack though in college. Thought going in with his freakish ability that he'd be what the Bosa Bros/Chase Young were. Kid was 6'6, 250 and running 4.4's in high school.

He has done every as much in college as Rashan Gary did.   He gets pressure on the quarterback just about every past play.  No he’s no Hutchinson or Bosa but he’s a solid NFL level player

That is not even remotely close to being true and you know that. Gary was a much better player in college than Zach Harrison. Gary's entire college career was basically one and a half seasons. His true frosh year he was a rotational player on a loaded defensive line, but his true sophomore year he had 11.5 TFL's and 6 sacks and if you go back and watch that OSU game that year- Gary freaking dominated in that game. He had 10 tackles, 3 TFLs, and 2 sacks that game alone. Gary missed almost half his junior year with a shoulder injury- and then he was off to the 1st round of the NFL.

Not to mention- his DC Don Brown kept trying to play him as a 3tech and use him as a run stuffer and limit his pass rushing opportunities. NFL turned him into a 3-4 OLB/Rush LB. Shows you just how freakishly athletic Gary is for a man of his size and how inept Dr Blitz Don Brown was in using him.

Yea- at this rate OSU will only score 64.

by the way- these refs have an interesting opinion about what pass interference is and isn’t.
OSU will get at least 40. Only a matter of time before the Iowa D breaks down. Can't be on the field all game long and hold up.

and the refs suck in every game. feel like refs get worse every year and they don't know what PI is at all....they're so inconsistent with it these days.

that was a GREAT punt by OSU. Just play the field position game with this awful Iowa O. It's going to be 1st and 10 from their own 4 yard line. Might as well be 1st and 10 with 100,000 yards to go. Iowa is literally incapable of going 96 yards and scoring.

really ballsy, but I don't like it. Kick the FG go up 19-10. Iowa isn't scoring jackshit the rest of the game if OSU doesn't turn the ball over. I'd just run the ball every down and punt on 4th down and get out with the W. Iowa's offense is truly god awful.

kinda disagree. only way Iowa is getting back in this game is by OSU turnovers or special teams break downs. No need to try anything risky. OSU should just run clock at this point. Run the ball and take the clock down to 1 second every time they snap it.

I've been referring to them as the "comically bad walking embodiment of nepotism" for a while and this game has done nothing to change my mind.

I also think that Iowa's defense is even better than I thought. They don't get enough credit for the fact that they literally have negative support from their comically bad walking embodiment of nepotism offense.

Iowa QB Spencer Petras in the first half has 2 picks and 1 fumble.  Iowa has had 4 turnovers, giving OSU the ball 3 times inside the 35 and the 4th turnover was a pick-6.

Every time Petras leaves the field I expect that to be the last series he will ever play in his Iowa career.  Instead no other other Iowa QB has played a single down all year.

Yes.  Good run D. But there is more than one way to skin a cat.  Iowa not used to giving up 54.  From what I understand they only gave up one touchdown pass all year but giving up 4 today.

Ohio State has held Iowa to 1.6 yards per carry.

I don’t like that Stroud even played that last series, but it’s kind of like Joel Klatt said,  Day probably wants to make sure that office is in rhythm after that crappy first half

You know what, officials can go suck a fat one.

Seriously...they decided to review that Purdue TD (which probably wasn't) and didn't reverse it.  Yet they did not try to review the Wisconsin TD (that also probably wasn't), and they offered no review of a possible Purdue TD (that probably could have been).

What a bunch of selective BS.  Humans suck at this.  Use replay and a master official in a sky booth.

Also, that roughing the passer on Purdue call earlier in the game was damn joke.  That crap is totally out of hand this year, especially in the NFL

I think it's why Utah has been able to step in and be a player.  All that Samoan beef on the lines w/ running QBs and strong>speed RBs to take advantage of it.
Utah shouldn't matter, but they do.  Because they're zagging vs the PAC culture's zig.
think you might be onto something there as well.

Ole Miss got obliterated by a mediocre LSU team. Didn’t think they were legit.

Bijan Robinson should be the #1 RB in the next draft. Only thing he lacks is the elite 4.3/4.4 speed like Gibbs at Bama or Corum at Michigan has. He’s got everything else.

Xavier Worthy messed up right there. And he messed up not staying his ass at Michigan.

Watching the Oregon win, this "PAC is lesser" thing has another data point.
Bo Nix is an "I'm gonna carry you on my back" type of QB.  Just in the way he's going to pass a lot and run a lot, so a high % of plays will run through him.  Other guys have been that way, like Tebow and Cam and the like.
Watching Nix at Auburn, he had an obvious ceiling.  I always said he was a guy who could carry you on his back, but only at the high school level.  But against SEC defenses, he just wasn't good enough.  A large % of overall plays would be through him, but he just wasn't productive enough, couldn't scramble away all the time, and wound up throwing wounded ducks while on the run from future NFLers.
Made sense.
But he transfers to Oregon.
Pooped the bed vs Georgia.  An SEC team with a great defense.  Then I remember back in his first game...he was able to lead a comeback vs Oregon.  A non-SEC team.
.
Basically, if he can now be a DUDE in the PAC, then it's definitely a data point that the PAC is just not as good at football.  Whether they're soft or less talented or simply culturally don't care as much about it, I don't know.  But it's not on par with the SEC or B1G.  You may be thinking "DUH, OAM," but I'm talking about actual evidence here.
Nix just went video-game style on an undefeated UCLA team (whether you were impressed by the Bruins or not, they had made it to the halfway point without losing).
.
Idk, just some thoughts.

this penn state-minn game just trading 3 and out and ass offense first half of the first qtr.

At what point is either team going to actually try a forward pass longer than 5 yards?

I did a close rewatch of Oregon-UGA. At the time I was assuming UGA was highly big time, and I’m that light, Oregon had a lot of flashes. It wasn’t consistent, but it was the kind of stuff that can anchor a good team.

We knew they had talent, and it’s being used mildly well.

Well, hot damn. The Gophers finally look good on that last series. For as pathetic as they've looked for most of the first half, only being down 17 10 at the break is a huge win, getting the ball to start 3Q.

At least the pizza is good.

Yup, all from scratch. From the Zingermans cookbook. And it's as tasty as it looks.

On the ice, the Gophers were leading North Dakota 2-0 at the start of that last football series, and the Whoiux scored 4 unanswered goals in 3 minutes and have 3 minutes of major power play to keep going.

I can't remember a worse game in terms of officiating.  The favoritism isn't even close to being hidden.  And while I don't think the Gophers would win even if things were called fairly....this would probably still be some sort of game.

I'm still dumbfounded by the blatant hold the refs decided to ignore on PSU's second TD.

It just occurred to me while watching KSU-TCU, with TCUs weird alternate helmets, KSU seems to never wear alternates.  They are more tied to their look than eve OSU, UM, ND or Oklahoma

I wouldn't have thought this was possible but after watching them closely for a whole game their defense is better and their offense worse than I thought.

Seriously, if Iowa had simply punted on first down Ohio State would have the ball at the 50 instead of the Iowa 10.
There were a few football video games over the years where I could win without using my offense.

From 247:

In his last four games, Mertz is 24-of-32 (75.0%) for 301 yards and three touchdowns on first down.

Most notably, zero interceptions on those throws.
