Good morning everyone.
And away we go!!
Lots of good football to watch today. What on your primary TV today?
For me, it's gonna start with Bama at Texas. Dook at NU will be on TV2 (until Bama does what I think it's gonna do).
3:30 is Wazzu at UW from start to end. TV2 starts with Tenn at Pitt, and the switches to the clowns at Iowa at 4PM. Probably mix in a little bit of UVA at ILL-INI.
Lots of decent games in the prime time, and if I can make it, I'll watch Baylor at BYU at 10:15 (I won't make it).
Anyone think USC is gonna trip on its dick at Stanford today? Hmmm.

Raining out this way, trying to muster the energy to hit the grocery store before games, but yesterday involved a bit more spending than I'd like, so maybe we hold off.
Keeping eyes on Bama-Texas, SC-Arky, see if K-State Mizzou or Wake-Vandy become things (of if UNC starts messing around again). Afternoon is UW, half an eye on A&M-App. Evening is bad, but a friend who went to UF might have people over and I might have an invite.

Last night, went to a good pizza place for a friend's 35th birthday. Got rained on some, but the table umbrellas were big and it was a special little time for Phoenix.

Bama doesn’t have the typical BAMA OL that dominates and takes over a game and they also don’t seem to have that legit home run all-world #1 WR which they’ve managed to have basically every year since Julio.
Other than that- they have everything else.

Maybe the portal has made say the top 60 as strong as its ever been. Its easier to patch up a big hole w/ a 21 year old than an 18 year old kroot. Seems like if you have a bad game against an "inferior" opponent they can take you out.

Watching the OSU Arkansas State recap. Something I've not seen before. When the AS QB would do a hard snap, pulling the aggressive OSU lineman into the neutral zone, multiple AS linemen would systematicly all 'flinch' the same way. The all would take a half step back, raise hands up then quickly move to accusing the defensive person from making them more. Multiple offensive lineman would react the same way like they were trained to false flinch to get the easy 5 yards. Two of the penalties the OSU lineman was moving back into place before the delayed flinch took place and got the penalty.
Has a rule changed? Are other schools employing this tactic? Or am I just living in an OSU bubble, and this has been the normal for a while now?

This is such a terrible rule. The o-line has the advantage of knowing the snap count. The d-line does not, so has always been able to counter that by jumping, but then getting back onsides, if the ball doesn't snap. As long as the defender doesn't touch anyone, it was okay, and that was a reasonable concession.
O-linemen were coached to have line discipline and only move on the snap of the ball. If the defender did jump and hit you, that was fine, because then you got the benefit of the penalty yards. I played o-line for years and gladly took plenty of hits from over-eager d-linemen who jumped offside and hit me. Thanks for the free yards, mate.

That said it was an odd weekend to be sure. I think that #10 USC was the highest ranked team to cover their spread with multiple top-10 teams losing to unranked opponents.

It's a tactic that offense is using to get a cheap 5 yards. This is a bad rule that I wish they would reverse. The offensive line knows the snap count. They have helmets and pads. If a D lineman jumps and makes contact, yes that should be a 5 yd penalty. However, this crap of "causing the o line to jump" is garbage. Again, they know the snap count and don't have to jump. Terrible rule. I have hated it since it was introduced.

Usually week 2 of college football is one of the worst weeks of the season. The ranked matchups are usually week 1, and it's filled with teams getting their cupcake win as a tuneup. But this was one of the best weekends of college football I can remember. Yes, partially because a few cupcakes rose up and got big wins, but also some decent matchups that went down to the wire. TN-Pitt, TX-Bama, BYU-Baylor...great games all over the place.

Yes, this rule was introduced within the last 20 years.
Prior to this rule, if the O line jumped reacting to a defensive player entering the Neutral Zone, it was a false start. Again, the offensive player knows the snap count. If the defensive player made contact, that became a dead ball foul, offsides penalty on the defense. If the defensive player is in the NZ at the snap, that is a live ball foul of encroachment.
