S&P says that would be 1959 Ole Miss, at least as of 2016. 1971 Oklahoma as the 12th best non-undefeated team of all time
- 1959 Ole Miss
- 2008 Oklahoma
- 2005 USC
- 2008 Florida
- 1971 Alabama
- 1981 Penn State
- 1977 Notre Dame
- 1978 USC
- 1980 Florida State
- 1980 Nebraska
- 1965 Michigan State
- 1971 Oklahoma
-
S&P never played or coached a game
hard to imagine a team on that list that could stand put against the 71 sooners on either side of the ball
-
If you love the 71 Sooners so much why don't you just marry them?
-
Boomer.

One loss to one of the all time great teams is better than two losses to a couple of two-loss teams.

Upsets happen, best team doesn't always win, OU didn't want to be there, etc.
-
And the Big 12 played defense like it was a rumor.

Hmm, weird. I pulled up 2008’s rankings. Oklahoma finished fourth in SP+ in 2008, behind three other teams.

I believe he adjusted his formula, and then went back and re-ranked the Top 50 teams since WW2 back in 2016 or so
