It's already begun.  Texas is actually late to the party compared to lots of other schools.

One interesting wrinkle with this, though, is that the o-line granting their NIL rights will be used for charitable fundraising.

haven't heard of a school setting up an NIL program for it's players.

I thought it was more or less players securing the deals on their own, like the Ewers kid who got $1.4 mil NIL deal or Bryce Young who got like $1 mil in NIL deals.

The school isn't doing it. The school can't do it.

Groups of boosters are doing it.

Other booster groups at other schools have already done this, I'll see if I can find any of the articles that were coming out last summer about it all.

But anyway, I do think it's a pretty slick application of the new capabilities.  It sets up as a baseline for players, and then of course if they are able to negotiate anything personally on top of that, like Ewers and Bryce Young have, they're free to do that.  And the really cool thing is they'll be raising money for the charities of their choice.

Probably not the best investment lol... Nerds are probably cheaper.

I actually figured that would be one of the first things to happen and I'm surprised we haven't heard of it yet.

Again, it's not UT.  UT, as a school, isn't allowed to do anything.  The rules forbid it.

This is one group of boosters that put together a program for o-line because they believe it is a critical need for the football team.

There's actually another group that is doing something similar for the tight ends.  And another group setting up broad opportunities for every scholarship athlete in every sport.

I wonder when we're gonna see the first player choose to return to school because he knows he'll get drafted to a terrible team and he's making enough in NIL to wait to go pro another year?

Or a player who is projected to a middle-late round from a smaller school where they're an established star and the NIL money is enough that they stay another year rather than go into the league and risk getting cut preseason?

Ha! Now you're talking. I'd love to see someone offer Aidan Hutchinson like $2-3 million to get a COVID waiver and comeback for 2022. Where is billionaire Michigan booster Stephen Ross when you need him? Playing for Michigan has to beat the hell out of playing for the Detroit Lions.

I dont think many feel this is good for college sports

Its a situation that has happened however and there will be some positive aspects to it
