I had more respect than this for Beliema before I saw this. What an a$$.
Bret Bielema shredded his predecessor for the lack of talent and depth at Illinois (msn.com) (https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/bret-bielema-shredded-his-predecessor-for-the-lack-of-talent-and-depth-at-illinois/ar-AAPH0OD?ocid=msedgntp)

He should've shredded the 27 previous HCs....

They're saying the same thing in Arkansas
-
luckily, I never had much respect for Bert

Yeah, we were discussing it in the week ly thread

I didn't see it.
Bret Beliema's abject criticism of his own players deserves its own thread, anyway. Maybe they are awful players, but as a coach, who does this? We have had people on here decrying fans who boo. I will do that occasionally, when it is deserved. But what coach does this? Bret Beliema. I thought he was Iowa's next coach because in the 1990s he was a great recruiter. And dominated at Wisconsin.
But, what player would want to play for him when he talks about his current players like this: "I don't believe we have a player in the 2-deep (O-Line) ... they've recruited here over the last 3-years that is really significantly doing anything for us in the playing department . . ." What if they quit this week and Bret's recruits took over. How would that go over, for Bret? His statement is f-ing dumb. Illinois ought to terminate him tomorrow.

thye went from a well respected Lovie to to this? its going to be a long way out of the cellar for Illinois

If you get hired into a program like Ill, this complaint should be kept to oneself, and be evident beforehand obviously.
The next coach at say Vandy would face the same issue.
-
He never had a filter, and still doesn't. If I was the AD, I'd fire him immediately, for cause.
-
Nope fire the AD and make this A-Hole work 12 months for the duration

Yeah, I remember when Joe Colletto at Purdue got fired after his 3-8 season in 1996 and Purdue brought in Joe Tiller. Colletto famously claimed he couldn't win with "those players".
Colletto became the OC at Notre Dame, Tiller became the HC at Purdue, and with "those players" beat ND in his first year en route to a 9-3 season with a bowl win.
Bert was stupid to say this--even if it's true... Maybe say this to the AD to justify why you still deserve to keep your job, but to the media? Dumb, dumb, dumb.
-
Yup. Entirely so.

Yup,silence is golden, duct tape is silver
-
the AD was just dumb enough to hire this guy
fire the AD

This exactly. What he said is undoubtedly true and would be completely appropriate in a private meeting with the AD, something like "Look, O-Linemen take time to develop and the ones recruited by the prior regime simply aren't up to B1G standards so it is going to take time to get to where we can compete consistently but we are doing what we can in the mean time and the Nebraska win shows what we can and will do here at Illinois."
He should've shredded the 27 previous HCs....
I also agree with this. Given Illinois' location and resources they should probably be one of the better programs in the league. Seriously, if you knew nothing about the history of CFB and only knew population/demographic information you would likely guess that the top programs in the B1G were:
- Penn State
- Ohio State
- Illinois
