It's another strange day to finish a strange season. I was sleeping good, but these stupid dogs started barking their heads off, so now I'm up and somewhat annoyed. Let me sip some coffee.
-
All right, a little caffeine in the system. Last night, Nebraska held off Rutgers, and UAB, Oregon, and Ball State all won conference crowns. Today we get an easy schedule - most will watch the B1G at noon, the ACC at 4, and the SEC at 8. Your alternates ate the B12 at noon, Minny-Wiscy at 4, and the AAC at 8. So a pretty good slate all day.
The next thought is what should I cook? It's been a while since I got the house smelling good with a big pot of something. Of course, my wife is working all day so it's just me and the kids, who tend not to want anything that comes from a pot unless it's deep fried from a pot of oil.
-

Ya but I have no Egg Nog to put in it
-
The next thought is what should I cook?
I hear Jimmy Dean Microwaveable sausage/egg/cheese/ Biscuits are decent
-
Interestingly enough, me and the wife watched a Queen concert last night.
We are the Champions.
Nice idea for today's thread.
-
Heh thanks it was the best I could do while still half asleep.
In other news, the hoops today are pretty strong, too.
11:30 - Indiana v. Butler
12 - Iowa v. Gonzaga, Louisville v. Wisconsin
2:30 - Purdue v. Notre Dame
4:15 - UCLA v. OSU
Kind if disappointed that I'll miss the Iowa Zag game, that looks like a straight NBA All Star game style banger

😂😂. Of course being Italian American I am partial to a pot of pasta sauce brewing all day!
-
Very curious for Ohio State’s availability report to come out this morning to see just how many guys are missing for this game.

The biscuit ones are kinda meh. The croissant ones are pretty decent.

awesome typo

Kinda takes care of his cooking chores

Slept like crap. I’ve had issues getting control of my bed time the past week. Plus the humidity dropped. So my sinuses are all dry. Plus I have a big job change soon, so that might be weighing on me.
Gonna start the day picking up brunch with a buddy, then get some fancy BBQ for lunch. Then games, maybe a nap, though the schedule isn’t great for it.
Also, the doubleheader of Wisconsin-Louisville basketball and UW-Minnesota football isn’t bad. God if they lose that second one.
-
I there with you and the dry sinuses. 2 bloody noses this week.

I there with you and the dry sinuses. 2 bloody noses this week.
I keep waking up wondering if I'm actively sick. And then I realize when you go to bed close to 1, sleep badly and it's not been close to 8 hours, you shouldn't feel great.
-
Youse guys should try Neil Med sinus rinse and sprays. Always did the job for me.

We left the humidifiers back in the Midwest. Don't really need that here. This one was great in the bedroom (easy brutus...):

Fresh scallops for tonight. Had fresh oysters last night. My first try at shucking. Went pretty well.

I grew up in a household where illness was doubted at every turn. The idea of treating mild discomfort is ... foreign to me.

Keeping your sinuses clean and moist also serves a major purpose - RIGHT NOW.

I have a golf buddy that microwaves the breakfast bowls when I visit for his member/guest
not great, but don't want to hurt his feelings

I'm surprised that the ACC didn't cancel the game in order to get both teams in.

This football season has sucked. Because of softball I’ve had just 2-3 Saturdays where I could actually relax at home and enjoy games and it seems like those days WVU was either off or canceled. I’ve had to record several games this year and avoid the score which is hard.
Softball is finally over and it’s Championship Saturday and all I want to do is get under a blanket and watch football (and some basketball) all day. But my friggin mother in law made plans for us to go with her and her boyfriend to go watch the tree lighting ceremony at The Greenbrier and then have dinner, and it’s in a county where Covid is running rampant. Not a happy camper.

Tell her you don't feel good and you're not comfortable subjecting yourself to exposure. You seem like you are coming down with something.

It's to my wife's great credit that when some stupid family plans get made, she doesn't try and force the issue. Her dad was having cake and ice cream for his birthday today at 1. She had some plan where I would drive over there with the girls (it's like a half hour trip one way). I was like, no, I'm watching football. So now she is taking the girls and they are spending the night. Which is win win for me, who suddenly has a whole glorious day of having an empty house.
-
Apparently the B1G put as much effort into their field as I am about to put in to doing chores while everyone is out of the house

Psht. Just a buncha posers.
A real woke league would be parading around a bunch of transgender midget cheerleaders.

Olave, Browning, and the punter out for OSU, along with the backup DEs. 14 players in total.

so, you're saying the Cats have a chance?

Ah, an empty house. I love my family but I wouldn’t mind that every once in a while, especially on a football Saturday.

Ouch. Plus starting safety, Hooker. Plus the first guy off the bench for Olave, Njigba-Smith.
oh/ there is a chance. Northwestern the master at bend don’t break, now no punter.

Jameson Williams hasn't done much this year. Maybe he'll get a shot - he or Fleming are in the hot seat.

I'm headed to the pub for a schooner

Also, no WR coach Hartline or LB coach Washington.
-
What is a schooner other than a boat?
-
Two targets for Fleming early
-
Badgers will be without RB1, RB2, WR1 and WR2 against the Gophers today.
First team to 3 wins.
-
And Iowa State has chosen poorly wrt uniform selection today.

Somewhere Marcel's smiling

I believe that is the first time tOSU has trailed since early in the opener against Nebraska.

Sounds like you got a whole empty house now, but I'd say that a big ol' pot of pho simmering away all day always makes the house smell nice.
We're trying to figure out dinner. Plan was grilled pork tenderloin tonight and meat loaf tomorrow... But it's gonna be 80 degrees tomorrow so we might flip that and run the oven today instead of tomorrow.

So is the Buckeye's defense. The Fighting Fitzgeralds are giving them Fitz
-
10-3 NU
-
Buckeyes better get their ish together... I was hoping this game would be a rout by the time the Purdue/ND bball game starts. Looks more likely if it's a rout it might be the other way?
-
We made Grandma GR's Christmas soup yesterday. Beef stock, beef stew meat, rutabaga, parsnips, spuds, onions, cabbage, and dumplings.
And Fat Bret to Illinois? Good luck with that.
-
Proctor drops a sure pick 6,10-6 NU

This is sad, but I'll tell ya, that stadium was a dump when we went to see the Badgers in 2000. Terrible facility.

What specifically is so awful about it? Do the urinals squirt you in the face when you flush them?
-

Your first cfb game was in Hawaii?
There must be a good story behind that?
-
Yikes!
Way too many times Ohio State's defense has played well on 1st and 2nd down to force a 3rd and long only to get crushed on that 3rd and long.
-
Trading end zone interceptions
-
Massive pick for Ohio St there
-
Sometimes it just ain't your day.
-
Good Lord Jameson Williams
-
Man do they miss Olave.
-
Man do they miss Olave.
Sure do. Our WR's aren't doing a good job of stepping up the way we need them to.
-
Hartline not there is not helping.
-
why the hell dosen't OSU just run the ball off tackle every down Nw does not have the dudes to stop them.
-
Sermon having a heck of a day.
-
Delay?
-
How does that happen?
-
So many unforced errors
-
Well crap
-
Unchartered territory
-
And another. My oh my.

Shoulder is horse collar?

Trading missed field goals

Trading FG misses

LoL, jinx

Run the damn ball, Ryan Day

Before the half they were averaging 6yds a pop.But ya lets sling it all over the place.Day owns some of this quit pounding a square peg in a round hole

It only took almost 3 qtrs but he finally heard us

Td running the ball, who could have ever seen that coming?

Proctor drops a sure pick 6,10-6 NU
All is forgiven
-
Hell of a play by Proctor
-
Day can't help himself
-
Sermon now at 14 for 197.
Even setting aside his 65 yard long, he is still close to 10 per carry.
-

I was slow posting. Through three quarters Sermon has 204 yards on 16 carries.
Setting aside the 65 yard long that is still 139 on the other 15 carries, 9.27 per carry.
Pound the rock!
-
Geez. Run the damn ball.
-
Where have i heard that before?
-
Tell me why Day hasn't drawn up up some roll out passes or Fields just do it.NU made it look pedestrian.Fitz is outcoaching Day no doubt
-
Maybe OSU should run more ...
-
Looking for an 80 yard drive all on the ground.
-
Maybe OSU should run more ...
😂😂
-
Maybe OSU should run more ...
Trey Sermon is really making up for Justin Fields’ truly awful stat line.
-
Oh jeeze another 20= yds on the ground BRILLIANT!!!
-
Oh gosh ANOTHER 1st down on the ground
-
Maybe OSU should run more ...
One nice snag
-
What is this ground game thing did Woody Hayes invade the huddle
-
Pretty sure if I told you Sermon had 280 rushing yards, you would not expect a close game
-
That may do it.
-
Run the ball, good things happen.
-
You really wonder how everyone could see it but it took day so long to figure out run the ball
-
https://twitter.com/ramzy/status/1340390549723987968?s=19

That may do it.
Thats what I said on the Fitz punt. Is Chryst in his headset.
-
Before the half they were averaging 6yds a pop.
My bad Trey was averaging 8.6 in the 1st half
-
Damn . Vintage Purdy.
-
Helluva!
I wish Marcel were here- he would be, and should be- proud of hi cats.
-
You really wonder how everyone could see it but it took day so long to figure out run the ball
Yet the all time rushing record was set at a school that didn't even throw a forward pass until the mid-90s

+1

NW is tough hard nosed and never quit.

Maybe Michigan should offer Pat Fitzgerald

Maybe Michigan should offer Pat Fitzgerald
Harbaugh is coming back unfortunately.
IF the job was open though, I think I'd prefer Matt Campbell.

Anyway, Trey Sermon holds the OSU single game rushing record, and also the conference championship rushing record.

He'd have cracked 400 had Day kept feeding him.

I'm really trying to root for Notre Dame but finding it difficult, perhaps beyond my ability.

It took all day ...
-
Acc game may have larger crowd this year than that infamous BC v VT match up.
-
Yeah, I tuned in during the 3rd quarter to see Fields 10-25, Teague with 200+ yards, NW with 3 turnovers and a 3-point game.
It did not compute.
.
If the other team can't stop the run, why would you pass? I hope Fields' thumb is okay.
-
I don't like ND, either. But that LB #6 is a football player!
-
I'm really trying to root for Notre Dame but finding it difficult, perhaps beyond my ability.

It will be easier once the BB game in Cleveland gets underway. I'll just watch that on CBS and avoid the difficulty of trying to root for the Domers.

Wow. Just able to turn a screen on a comment on the Buckeye game.
Hope Fields is ok.
NW played the game game they wanted, and kept it close. Super nerve racking.
Georgia QB, OU RV, free agency doing alright for the Buckeyes.
-
I am thinking Bama 52 Clem 45 at this point.
-
With OU's duds, I know it was OU. Iowa state may as well be Acme U with that look.
-
Same ole ND vs full-strength Tigers.
-
So with ND Crashing back to earth do they stay in the 4 spot?
-
Can we go back to a bcs formula, don't need to see Semis this year.
-
You have something against Thug-black?
I don't like those "Ruff-Rider" costumes the Sooners were wearing, but at least they approximate the school colors.
Yeah I prefer the Sooners in their classic, traditional unis, but these at least looked like OU uniforms. ISU... yeesh, those were ugly. Oh, congrats on your 134th consecutive B12 championship, by the way.
-
ALERT: POSSIBLE 'SIXING' OCCURRING IN AIR FORCE VS ARMY GAME
SCORE IS 9-7 WITH 1:13 LEFT IN THE GAME
-
False alarm. Dammit. I caught the score pre-extra point. 10-7. Nothing to see here.
-
Put down the crackpipe, home skillet.
-
It was exciting!
-
Well Kelly's right ND won't be playing in Pasadena on NYD
-
Yeah I prefer the Sooners in their classic, traditional unis, but these at least looked like OU uniforms. ISU... yeesh, those were ugly. Oh, congrats on your 134th consecutive B12 championship, by the way.
Thanks, but it wasn't that many in a row.
However, I'm pretty sure it would seem like that to Sooner fans if Texas had won 6 straight.
So, they aired a graphic during the game that OU and Clemson were each working on their 6th straight.
Earlier, longer streaks they mentioned were BYU, with 7 straight WAC championships, and Bud Wilkinson's Sooners, with 12 straight from '48 through '59, including every Big 7 championship and the first 2 of the Big 8.
They weren't counting ties, or the Fairbanks-Switzer Sooners of 1972-80 would have 9 straight, and the Jim Tatum-Bud Wilkinson Sooners would have 14 straight.
About ISU--their normal unis--since they abandoned the "Screaming Yellow Zonkers" color palette--look good in a USC way. I don't know why they want to wear all-black.
I can only think that it's an attempt to look intimidating. Usually it's an underdog team that does that. ISU, TCU, Northwestern come to mind. Maybe Duke? Texas Tech?
All ugly.
-
In ND meh
-
Well Kelly's right ND won't be playing in Pasadena on NYD
A little Karma. Too bad Clemson couldn't lose too.
-
I can only think that it's an attempt to look intimidating. Usually it's an underdog team that does that. ISU, TCU, Northwestern come to mind. Maybe Duke? Texas Tech?

Ed Zachery,so many of the wannabe's think this gives them an advantage when all the other wannabe's are doing it also - hardly unique
-
Been drinking much of the day but logging on to say, if UW could win this, it would be very nice.
-
So with ND Crashing back to earth do they stay in the 4 spot?
If they do I think it will mostly just to avoid an aTm/Bama rematch.
-
C'mon Gators
-
I was rooting for Notre Dame to win, both because I like the Irish and because I wanted to see the Committee trip over itself rationalizing why a 2-loss Clemson was being selected for the CFP.
But the way they are losing they do not look like one of the four best teams.
-
Ole Miss and LSU are officially twelving.
-
C'mon Gators
It would be even money if Alabama's offensive starters were all out. That's the only way.

Don't forget Miami. I think UNC just scored again...
-
I'm coming to think that being conference champ ought to be a prerequisite for the CFP.
And I'm not saying that because OU is a conference champ. I've thought this for awhile.
I don't like CCGs.
And nobody forced conferences to play CCGs, but if they're going to play them, then the games should have consequences.

Probably, but there has to be one better, and ... well it would get tricky.

Probably, but there has to be one better, and ... well it would get tricky.
Yeah, we'd be in that conundrum of not having any team good enough to be #4!
-
Don't forget Miami. I think UNC just scored again...
Ugh! How could I forget about the greatest, ugliest, thug-ugly team in CFB history?
-
Alabama should get a bye. Let them play Coastal Carolina.
-
It looks like San Jose is going to beat Boise.
-
Meanwhile in Madison, Gophers and Badgers going to OT all square at 17.
-
Crazy last minute & a half.Gophs Goophed IMO had 2 to's and let the clock runout.SMDH - chuck it,no balls
-
Gophs goof the field goal. Wiscy can get it right now
-
Fleck deserved that loss, get while the getting's good.Great last couple of minutes though
-
Trash beavers vanquished for another season.
UW was down a QB. They were just hammering with the third-down back. UW's shitty kicker with a ... well, he hit it, he can celebrate as he wishes
-
Fleck deserved that loss, get while the getting's good.Great last couple of minutes though
If UW had not thrown that pick, woulda been over sooner.
-
Alabama should get a bye. Let them play Coastal Carolina.
Now we're on the same page.

Perhaps but it was still tied and not an automatic 3.Could have banged away

but if they're going to play them, then the games should have consequences.
they do
-
they do
The consequence ... is death.
-
I always liked the idea of the CCGs being play in games, but not if they are being won by teams that finished second or third in their division.
-

Did we have more than one of those?
-
Did we have more than one of those?
At least two that I can think of.
-
they do
Yeah. One more "data point." That's not much.
For that we get rematches?
-
So, who is the 4th team now? I’d probably go with Oklahoma.
-
At least two that I can think of.
Outside Oregon, who am I missing? (I guess the canceled Sun Belt?)
-
So, who is the 4th team now? I’d probably go with Oklahoma.
This would irk the "never let Oklahoma in the playoff again."
(I don't like ND, but between playing generally well and having a better top two wins than anyone, you might have to stick with them)
-
Notre Dame should go ahead of OU if it were to come down to those two for the #4 slot. I don't think OU is competitive for that slot at all. Those losses to K-State and Iowa State to start Big 12 play didn't go away.
Now, if winning your conference were a prerequisite, I'd argue that OU should get in ahead of Oregon. But it's not, so the point is moot.
Tulsa's playing Cincy tough.

This would irk the "never let Oklahoma in the playoff again."
(I don't like ND, but between playing generally well and having a better top two wins than anyone, you might have to stick with them)
I can see that too but the same crowd that doesn’t want OU in probably isn’t storming the gate to let ND in either. OU has the conference title, 2 close early losses (one of which they just avenged), three solid wins, and avoids a rematch possibility ND or A&M would present.
I’d be ok with letting Cincinnati in so Bama could mop them and squash the dreams of all G5 fans.

Touchdown Bearcats
-
Well, rats!
-
Outside Oregon, who am I missing? (I guess the canceled Sun Belt?)
Huh. I'd've thunk that the one that you'd've gotten would've been the 2012 Wisconsin Badgers.
-
Btw, the first bowl game is less than 48hrs away.
-
So, who is the 4th team now? I’d probably go with Oklahoma.
Based on all of the coaches who have been vocal, Fowler, and all the talking heads- the question is who are the last 2 spots. (assuming Bama and Clemson)
-
There's a good game on CBS right now.

Don't you mean some 12-ing?

Ohhhh, I thought you meant this year.
I mean, they definitely should’ve let that team into the playoffs, with extremely garbage quarterback play. (That team did it play surprisingly spry Rose Bowl against a team it had almost no business competing with)
-
Cfp semi moved to Jerry World. Good. Of course this means IU may head to Pasadena with no fans.

Was supposed to be today.

Will there be a Rose Bowl game at all?
Assuming that they don't call the game in JerrahWorld the Rose Bowl?
-
The Yellow Rose Bowl maybe. Guessing not their call.
Meaning the name is the property of the TOR. Its a cfp semifinal at Jerry world.
-
Tulsa just tied up Cincinnati 24-24 with 3:41 left in the game.

Twice in under a decade elevates it from a fluke occurrence to something that we are going to have to take into account if we get to the point where there are 8 teams and we are trying to decide whether or not to award auto-bids to P5 CCG winners.

I'm just proud we didn't get blown out.

Lulz. There's no such thing as twelving, but there's certainly "Alabamming."
That awesome defensive spectacle was a sight to behold.

I really don't think so.
Some people have tried to make an issue of tOSU's lack of games but:
- Most have either been obviously biased by their position or had an axe to grind, or
- None have been the committee.
The committee has had the Buckeyes in their top-4 all year long. This weekend the Buckeyes beat #14 and won a P5 title. Here are the only other teams that had a better win and/or won a P5 title:
- Oregon beat #13 USC and won the Pac12. Oregon also has six games but they have two losses.
- #10 Oklahoma beat #6 ISU and won the B12. Oklahoma has 10 games with two losses.
- #3 Clemson beat #2 ND and won the ACC but they were already ahead of tOSU.
- #1 Bama beat #7 UF and won the SEC but they were already ahead of tOSU.
Clemson and Bama were already ahead of tOSU and Oregon isn't going to pass the Buckeyes from unranked. That only leaves Oklahoma. The Sooner aren't going to pass the Buckeyes and even if they did that would leave the Buckeyes in the CFP at #4.
Bama will be #1 and will play #4 in the Sugar Bowl.
#3 Ohio State will play #2 Clemson in the "Rose Bowl" in Texas.
The only serious question is who will be Bama's opponent in NOLA
-
If UW had not thrown that pick, woulda been over sooner.
I want to know who made that play call. Dumbest play call of the year.

If the committee were to pick A&M as the fourth team, then I actually think they'd re-seed it to avoid the A&M-Alabama rematch in round1. They could call Ohio State the 4-seed and rationalize it with the lower number of games/wins.

I think this cuts to a core of sorts. Around this sport, there's always noise. There are always so many people talking all the time. Even the committee makes dumb noise when not talking (or not having weeks or rankings) would make for a more orderly, trustworthy discourse. But by and large, we are a people who seem to crave the rankings and the noise and speculation that come with it. There's something hardwired to not be able to look away from the noise. Like of course Jimbo is spouting nonsense, he's not gonna be like "I like my team a lot, but that OSU team I've never watched, they're the ones who should prevent us from playing for a title."
It reminds me a little of late Feb basketball. You have teams like, we'll pick Purdue last year, that are pretty strong but won't have the resume. And after like 70 percent of their games, the coach whose team that dropped them to 14-12 comes out and says "I've coached XX years, and if that's not an NCAA tournament team, I don't know what is." And this happens to like 25 middle-P5 teams for weeks.

Make sense if they do that - you should run for office. Not only that at least the Bucks would get blasted by the best team in CFB and Dabo and Jimbo could have their own fumble tongue event. And i wouldn't have to watch long and silky running his fingers thru his cascading locks.I hope some one curb stomps him

Modest disagree. Unless they went hurry up, they were gonna need to throw at some point. The field position wasn't all that great. A max-protect play with easier reads isn't the worst, especially with a No. 3 QB. But you gotta not make a crap throw and not have the receiver play like crap. I might've opted for something with a less-downfield option, but I don't hate it all that much.

My thoughts on A&M are well known, but seeing Saban blow a gasket if that happened would be hilarious.

Believe me, I'm not hoping for the ags to get in. That would be near-disastrous for the Longhorns. We recruit against them every single day, for every single kid in the state.
Of course, OU getting into the playoff is similarly bad for Texas, but at least the only Sooner I ever have to hear from, is C-Dubb right here on this site.
Notre Dame is actually the least of all evils from my perspective.
It'll be interesting to see what the committee does.

Y'all win the B1G and make it into the CFP pretty much every year. Please forgive me if I'm not shedding tears for the woes of the Buckeyes... ;)

One thing I'll say for the committee, it tends to go with the most grounding consensus field. Like who is the most logical team that could've been in through the years? OSU in 2018 probably? And that made like no one mad.
For better or worse, ND is the simplest pick, and it's a hard call for why anyone else would go, other than ND looked super bad just yesterday. Anyone beside ND would be interesting, but there's not much reason to think they go away from ND.

Keeping the Gopher trophy case empty is a big deal for Wisconsin recruiting.
No jug, no pig, no AXE.

Why not OU?
Because it's 10:15 AM CST, and ou still sucks!

LSU 53 - Miss 48
Miss St 51 - Missouri 32
'bama 52 - florida 46
I mean we might as well call it SEC~ing now.

OSU is in the conversation pretty much every year. But they have been on the outside of the 4 just as much as in it.

So, they've gone four times in seven playoffs.
One they missed when there were four conference champs with 1 or 0 losses and they got squeezed out of a Division title
One they had two losses, one a garish upset, and everyone above at 1 or 0 losses (the Bama case was mostly eye test that year, but was what it was)
The most interesting one was 2018, when there really wasn't much difference between Oklahoma and OSU, other than OSU played so-so for a chunk of the second half, and they couldn't turn the narrative boat around with a Michigan win and a so-so NW team in Indy. Granted, OSU avoided giving up 45 to Bama and was sluggish in the bowl, so no one was really complaining.
So they had 5 or 6 playoff-level teams in seven years, depending how you feel about 2018.
-
Don't forget 2015, where they likely would have been in the playoffs but for Sparty's magical punt block touchdown against Michigan

That's the first one. Do Buckeyes fans track that back to that game? I just figured there were a mess of weird things and nothing took the focus.

I take every opportunity possible to bring up that play.
But it's pretty crazy that but for that play, OSU would have played Iowa for the B1G and a playoff spot.

Ha. Or they coulda score 20 in the rain.
That MSU team was very much a better record than it played.
