Buckeyes open as 30 point favorites against the pathetic WolverHarbaugh's. Easy money. They will win this game by 50 plus. That's not hyperbole.
McNamara was allegedly shut down for the season after the shoulder injury he played through vs PSU was more serious than they initially thought.
Joe Milton now mysteriously is injured and will be missing the game. LOL. My guess is either Harbaugh is covering his own ass and doesn't want to get even more embarrassed on the biggest stage of the season for hand-picking the poor kid, or Milton has already put in his transfer portal papers, and that's why he's not available. Injured my ass.
Michigan will be starting a 2* true frosh QB named Dan Vilari who had literally no other FBS offers. Forget P5. He had no other FBS offers.
The beat down will be of epic proportions.

Might as well run the wildcat with Haskins or Charbonnet

Not sure I am buying the rumors about McNamara or Milton. My guess is one of them plays.
I look at it like this: Michigan can only exceed expectations because number one, most expect them to cancel so if they show up to play they have already exceeded expectations and are showing some balls. Number two they’re huge underdogs and if they just show up and play hard and don’t get beat by 40 points they will have also exceeded expectations. If they somehow managed to get a few turnovers and make a few big plays and keep the game close they will have blown expectations out of the water. Nothing worse than a team playing With everything to gain and nothing to lose. Gamble gamble gamble. Blitz on every play throw the ball deep all day long. Should be fun to watch because I never see this game turning out the way it supposed to.
-
I love this rivalry game and it's sad what it has become. I can relate.
-
I for one am looking forward to it and hope it is played! I don't mean that as tounge-in-cheek as it may seem. My team could lose, stranger upsets have happened in this series so, in a way I feel like Michigan has a better situation because for them and their fans it is an "everything to gain, nothing to lose" situation. As ~30 point underdogs they really can't underachieve relative to expectations whereas Ohio State most certainly can.
-
I'm not really buying the QB situation. Either McNamara or Milton plays, possibly both.
-
...and if not, they could always roll out Yost's 1903 "point a minute" offense.

McNamara is out. He is seriously injured. His throwing shoulder is f’d up. He shouldn’t have continued playing in the Penn State game after he got blown up and landed on his shoulder. All he did was hurt it more.
What I do not buy for a god damn second is Milton being “hurt”. He hasn’t played in weeks and they’ve barely been practicing and in practice they don’t touch the QB.
My guess is Harbaugh just doesn’t want to get exposed for being the idiot he is if he starts Milton and Milton plays like the hot garbage he is and they get destroyed. Jim hand picked this kid to be the next messiah. Jim and Pep Hamilton have been talking up anyone who would listen for years that Milton could be a #1 overall NFL Draft pick. LOL.

I get where you are coming from but let me play devil's advocate for a minute:
Even if McNamara was available, he is what he is. He isn't terrible (like Milton frequently can be) but he also doesn't have Milton's higher ceiling. If the Wolverines played the Buckeyes with McNamara under center then instead of a 30 point dog they'd maybe be a 20 point dog, still with very little chance of winning.
Why not roll the dice with Milton? Worst case scenario is that he plays like, as you said, "hot garbage" and Michigan gets destroyed. Ok, so what? Everybody expects Michigan to get destroyed anyway so they simply meet expectations, get blown out by a CFP contender and move on to next year. OTOH, if Milton were to have that once-in-a-lifetime, out-of-his-mind game and actually play to his ceiling . . . Michigan might pull off the upset.
I don't see the downside for Michigan to taking that gamble.

I share your skepticism of the Milton injury, but not the reasoning. Rather than trying to save face, and assuming that the transfer rumors are true, then I suspect that Harbaugh is invoking the "Michigan will be led by a Michigan Man" mantra.

McNamara can be a pretty good QB within a functional offensive system. I think the kid can play.
He might not have Milton’s imposing size, athleticism, 4.6 speed, or Milton’s cannon for an arm- but none of that is what playing QB is about. Milton has all of the measurables in the world- but none of the stuff you can’t measure. He doesn’t have the feel for the position or the instinct for it. You can’t teach it, you can’t coach it. The good QBs just have it.
-
Sounds like Milton is good to go, albeit with a nagging thumb issue, if the game happens.

Cancelled

damn
what's the backup plan for a game for the Buckeyes?

Cancelled
Wow

Weak sauce. Suit up the women's soccer team if you have to.

Nice, make it happen!
Per usual, the Big Ten sort of boxed themselves into a corner here.
They created the minimum game rule to prevent a whacky 3-0 MSU or whatever from making it over a 7-1 OSU, and instead screwed their best team.
They told Nebraska they couldn't play Chattanooga, and now it might screw OSU.
-
I look for the Big Ten to change the rule immediately.
-
line up Cincinnati, that game was cancelled

#5 Texas A&M doesn't have a game this week
Do it!!!

That would be awesome
-
the commish could always make a call to the boat rower and ask if he's certain there aren't enough COVID cases to cancel with the Huskers

That would be awesome
Cincy would be more likely
-
Hell ya BYU did it on 2 days notice.Put it to the AGGIES find out if they are all hat and no cattle as the say down there.Get a southern team above the Mason/Dixon in December, hellz ya finally .Makes the committee's job easier
-
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!
Screw the Blue.
Screw Kevin Warren.
And Screw this D@mn Virus.
-
I think Ohio State rematching Indiana in Bloomington makes the most sense. Would need Purdue to cancel their game tomorrow though for it to be a possibility.
-
Cincy would be more likely
Cincy cancelled its game with Tulsa this weekend due to Covid cases. They are in the same boat as TTUN.

Harbaugh: "Day said something about hanging a hundred on us. We'll show him!" ;)

put the Bearcats on the Bus, it's less than a two hour drive
If the #7 Bearcats really want a shot at the 4-team playoff, here's their chance
The Big Ten could get off the non-con thing by stating this is an in-state team and have them pick up Big Ten testing and COVID protocol this afternoon
-
Karen Warren doesn't allow OOC substitutions.

Why wouldn't they? Then they could kiss off 2 conf.teams in the playoff if FLA beats Bama.I'm sure St Nick would like that for Christmas

What happens if IU has an outbreak and can't play on Dec 19? I don't think we've discussed that one.

Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren will speak with "stakeholders" within the conference to discuss the current requirements for teams to be eligible for the championship game set for Dec. 19. The minimum threshold of six games has all-but eliminated Wisconsin and No. 4 Ohio State (5-0) from contention, but discussions about tiebreakers and scheduling are scheduled to begin this afternoon.
"Again, one of the things I've said since Day 1 is we're operating in unprecedented times," Warren said. "No one has ever played collegiate sports in the middle of a pandemic, so we need to make sure we remain fluid and that we do remain nimble during these times.

Again, it's the bearcats who have suspended games/activities because of covid. (Ie cincinnati can't play anyone.)

So if OSU and Indy play again, and this time Indiana wins, then who is the division champion?
-
What happens if IU has an outbreak and can't play on Dec 19? I don't think we've discussed that one.
At that point they would HAVE to modify the six game threshold because, assuming the Buckeyes are stuck at five, the best available eligible team would be either:
- 3-4 MSU (if they beat PSU), or
- 3-5 PSU (if they beat MSU), or
- 3-5 Rutgers (if they beat UMD).
To avoid putting a sub .500 team in the CG, they would HAVE to drop the six game minimum to allow the 5-0 Buckeyes in.

Really? They didn't play collegiate sports from 1918-1920 or so?
-
Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren said. "...we need to make sure we remain fluid and that we do remain nimble during these times.
Fuuuck that hypocritical prick. He defines 'fluid and nimble' as canceling the season, refusing to meet concerned parties or addressing legitimate concerns until lawsuits started popping up.

So if OSU and Indy play again, and this time Indiana wins, then who is the division champion?
It would be IU, having the higher conference winning percentage.
-
So if OSU and Indy play again, and this time Indiana wins, then who is the division champion?
Here are the rules, link (https://s3.amazonaws.com/bigten.org/documents/2020/10/22/2020_Big_Ten_Football_Tiebreakers.pdf).
In the scenario you laid out, IU would have a better winning percentage at 7-1 (.875) while tOSU would be at 5-1 (.833) but the rules stipulate that in the event of unbalanced schedules:
"If two (or more) teams have the same number of conference losses but a different number of conference wins, head-to-head results will take precedence over winning percentage, so long as the two (or more) teams meet the minimum number of games language noted above."
Ok, both IU and tOSU would meet the minimum number of games and they would have the same number of conference losses so H2H trumps winning percentage but that doesn't help because they would be 1-1 against each other.
It appears that the conference did not contemplate two teams playing twice because the next rule covers the situation where there is no H2H because the game between the two was cancelled:
"If the game was cancelled between two teams with the same winning percentage in all conference games or the same number of conference losses but a different number of conference wins, move to tiebreaker for two teams below."
It wouldn't be unreasonable to read that to also cover a double-game where H2H was not able to break the tie. So the two team tiebreaker is as follows:
- H2H - doesn't help
- Divisional winning percentage but with the same "same # of losses" language as above - doesn't help
- Record against the next best team(s) in the division, then the next, then the next, etc. This also stipulates that you skip teams that one or both didn't play so this doesn't help because both IU and tOSU would be 1-0 against each divisional team that they did play.
- Winning percentage against all common conference opponents. This doesn't help because it would be 1.000 for both IU and tOSU.
- Best cumulative record of non-divisional opponents. IU's would be Wisconsin only and tOSU's would be UNL only. Currently UW is 2-2 with a scheduled game against Iowa while UNL is 2-4 with a scheduled game against MN. IU would win on this UNLESS UW lost to Iowa AND UNL beat MN. If that happened then UW would be 2-3 (.400) and UNL would be 3-4 (.4286). This one would be decisive because there is no way for it to end up as a tie. IF it did go beyond that:
- Record against the best team in the other division, then the next, etc. Since IU and tOSU would have only played one B1G-W team each, this step is effectively identical to #5.
- Overall record: Irrelevant this year since there are no OOC games.
- Random draw
-
It would be IU, having the higher conference winning percentage.
See my post above. It might be IU but not based on winning percentage. That is explicitly excluded by the existing rules and it would ultimately be decided by tiebreaker #5, record of non-divisional opponents (in this case opponent since tOSU and IU would only have one each).

easy solution
force Michigan to field a team
they have at least 22 kids available

On one hand, it would be more fun and better.
On the other, the very intentionally severed four rather important rivalries (well, really two, and a couple others that just should be played) and it would create some major headaches to be like "just kidding, we snapped Clemson-South Carolina and FSU-Floirda, but A&M get get in that top-10 matchup."
