This whole year has been one long exercise in learning how to embrace chaos. Am I going to work today? Are my kids going to school today? As someone who likes having a routine, it was really taxing the hell out of me for a while. At some point, though, I learned how to stop caring and learned to embrace the fresh hell that each new day gave us.This. Still working on it from my end.
So it is today. Supposedly, OSU is in East Lansing about to play a game at noon. Might it get cancelled? Sure? Do we know is able to play? Nope! But here are, still enjoying a day of college football, posting nonsense on message boards, and cooking up some fine meals. Which reminds me to hit up Krogers here in a bit. No idea of what they will have or what I will make, but that's just part of the deal this year.
This. Still working on it from my end.Dude- go with the bolognese!
Today I will make a Bolognese and serve it over spaghetti. I've got some fresh green beans so I'll probably cook those.
Or, today I will make the triple tail my wife picked up at the farmer's market yesterday. Maybe some homemade fries to go with, and the beans.
Or, today I will make burgers using my home grind, with some homemade fries to go with, and the beans.
We also have some mini smoked weanies and crescent rolls. I like those.
Well fine, I vote Burgers. CHAOS REIGNS!it was the beans, wasn't it?
Chaos Reigns
chaos reigns
sanity whimpers
A schedule for those who still believe in themOSU better look out. MSU almost always plays up to its competition.
Noon
OSU at MSU, ABC
Nebraska at Purdue, BTN
Penn State at Rutgers, FS1
3:30
Iowa at Illinois, FS1
Indiana at Wisconsin, ABC
Others
TAMU at Auburn, noon, ESPN: TAMU is on the outside looking in of the playoffs, but another loss for them would be quite pleasing to the Cincy's of the world
BYU at Coastal Carolina, 5:30, ESPNU: Two good undefeated teams who are playing each other on days' notice. Fun to see
I'd go with the triple tail while it's very fresh, but I'm land locked and rarely get good seafoodWasn't there a UW grad gonna work on a Great Lake for IA,name escapes me right now
Thanks for all the votes.great minds think alike!
Mrs. 847 Trumps all. Triple tail it is.
Homemade fries and green beans
or Mashed potatoes and green beans
or rice pilaf and green beans
I'm all about that spaghetti with Bolognese. Chaos!CHEERS - your beer thread is 15 yrs old too this week!!!
Tonight my isc&a aggie wife and I are going out to dinner for my birthday. We have outdoor reservations at a Northern Italian (not American-Italian) restaurant, where I've had the branzino and it's fantastic. I'll likely be choosing between that, and their braised short ribs.
OSU better look out. MSU almost always plays up to its competition.sure as shootin hope the heck y'all are right about a couple of those
UNL gets another win.
Rutgers gets destroyed today.
Illinois gets the upset win that Lovie needs.
Wisconsin goes down hard to IU in a crushing 1 point loss at home.
I wish UW's game last night was cancelled.I didn't see it, though I notice DJ Carton got a lot of minutes. We could use him.

OSU better look out. MSU almost always plays up to its competition.OSU definitely better be on notice. MSU isn't particularly good, but they are going to come out and try to throw the ball down the field and hit the quarterback, which are two things OSU isn't that great at preventing. I also have no idea who is out today, but if it's anyone in the secondary they are going to really struggle.

Any time I see short ribs on a menu I order it. That and pork belly.I find pork belly to be hit and miss - if it's good it's really good, but if it isn't cooked right it can be pretty gross
CHEERS - your beer thread is 15 yrs old too this week!!!Wow, that's a lot of years and a lot of beers.
or if I want to attend a Hawkeye watch party this afternoon - the fellas there will have pork ribs on the pellet smokerMy pellet pooper crapped out on me last night. Throwing some sort of error code.
I'm all about that spaghetti with Bolognese. Chaos!Happy birthday, 94!

Happy birthday, utee! But of course. I'll post it up in the recipe thread soon. You'll also need my homemade marinara recipe.
Badge, you got a good Bolognese sauce recipe? Eating pasta with bolognese while in Bologna was one of the highlights of our honeymoon.
Happy birthday, 94!Not quite, that one's next year. We're planning a Europe trip for next summer to celebrate. We'll see if that happens, I'm not so optimistic right now but I guess ya never know. If not, we'll probably hit the Caribbean.
Not 50 yet, right?
Damn Germans.
Thanks to all for the birthday wishes. As always, since my bday falls on Pearl Harbor day, I ask all of my friends and neighbors to think about the tragedy of that day, the horrors of war, the sacrifices of our veterans, and Hope for peace and a better world.
Damn Germans.
OSU missing a big chunk of their oline. No Thayer Munford, Josh Myers, Nicholas Petite-Frere, or Paris Johnson. That's their center and top three tackles. Also missing Josh Proctor, which is another big loss in the secondary. Going to be a slog. That’s a big fat ouch! Also missing their stall wart middle linebacker Tuf Borland.
I know I seem to be the resident pedant at times but I can't let this slide without comment. Why is there a common tendency for folks to add an 's' to Kroger?Heh good question. I do it all the time - Krogers, Meijers, Aldis, Penneys, whatever.
I hear this often, same with 'Meijers' among others stores which do not end in an 's'.
Of course we take pleasure and enjoy intentionally omitting an 's' from a certain conference member.

Also missing Josh Proctor, which is another big loss in the secondary. Going to be a slog.Certainly the OL is the hit. 23 players out, 7 starters, but otherwise scattered. If MSU can get pressure with 4, that's the one thing they MIGHT still have going for them. Still not touching that line

The view from my backyard is a lot nicer when nothing is on fire...Sweet!
If? Both starting tackles out, plus the first guy in off the bench(Paris Johnson)MSU's most impactful defensive lineman from last week, is in a boot, and out for the year. The interior line has been MUCH better than the ends. Jones and Mallory are still a solid duo, but I have no idea who rotates in. The ends have to step it up, which they haven't done since Rutgers, where they were the one group who actually showed up
MSU front 4 is a challenge for the Buckeye starters.
it also will impact the running game so it will be interesting to see how creative Ohio State can be with their play calling. I expect quite a few quick passes and roll outs.
The view from my backyard is a lot nicer when nothing is on fire...Glad to hear it!

Yea 5 minutes into the game and I'm about ready to find something better to do on a Saturday.Pretty much. Pretty sure I'm calling it after this Nebraska TD gets punched in.
This is a total embarrassment. I like Brohm, but there is no defending this garbage. Team looks completely incompetent.
I dunno. I turned it off. Am I missing anything worthwhile?
Hey Dallas Cowboys, #FailForFields!I’m certainly no OSU fan, but even I wouldn’t wish that on one of their players. The Cowgirls are a mess.
Yea 5 minutes into the game and I'm about ready to find something better to do on a Saturday.I was thing the same thing about the Huskers a couple weeks ago vs Illinois

At the time, she was 14. They fled to the cane fields above Pearl City, and came back to find several bullet holes in their house, including one in the dining room.

As a big 8 guy it is stunning for me to see a December game in Ames played in brilliant sunshine w/o significant wind.Yeah the weather for TX-KSU looked pretty nice as well. On the cool side for sure, but I expected a lot worse. WC4E and SkiCat would be so disappointed in the mild weather.
I expect them to bury UT in 2nd halfSame here. UTenn can't hang for the whole game.
My December football setupLove the look.

Sam you have an insert in that fireplace?Nope just a live fire. Always crossing my fingers that no sparks hit the carpet
Love the look.Well, I'm cheap so I buy the cheapest one at Costco. So if it melts it's still under warranty. But it gets pretty good heat on me, but not really any to the television so I think I'm good.
Careful with the heat from the fire around your TV. These new flat screens can get finicky around hot spots.
religion like race, doesn't determine your intelligenceThis is true.
New Hampshire, eh?Sure, why not? When you're making shit up, there are no facts to dispute.

This is true.most atheists are plenty gullible
Just your gullibility.
Hey, if you convinced a few people of those things, you could start a church!you could avoid taxation
most atheists are plenty gulliblefro is so gullible that he latched onto the first ideology that he came across when he turned on the television. :57:
just different topics
such as politics
being an atheist is nothing to be proud of
most atheists are plenty gullible"Most atheists are plenty gullible." Yeah, that's a precise claim.

it's as precise a claim as Mormons are gullibleActually, Mormons are especially gullible.
If they were that gullible, I'd already have my own harem of concubines.Yeah, that crowd branched off around 1900. They're in NW AZ and down in Mexico if you want some like-minded friends.
Nope just a live fire. Always crossing my fingers that no sparks hit the carpetDude shut the glass doors,my brother use to cut his own wood and had an insert installed.Save some coin when Ohio/Pa Winters turn ugly
Love the look.Truth, nephenw installed a flat screen to close to heating source and had to move it.

The Badger offense is a mess right now. Still missing players. Defense did all it could do.I knew it! That’s exactly what I thought as soon as I saw him walking over to the sideline to get plays. Why else would you be doing that?
And... Bastages...
Like a high school quarterback without a wristband or any signs with cartoon characters on it to signify play, Mertz trotted to the sideline took a play call from a coach or player and jogged back to the huddle to call the play.Wisconsin almost never does this but started on Saturday after feat that Indiana was stealing its signals.
"We had a couple of calls that were, we got our signal and we heard 'outside zone!'" said Mertz. "And when that happens a little bit, you just got to play the game. It's a chess match. You got to go to the sideline, you got to go get your calls. Obviously it's different but it had to be done tonight."
Ryan Day said on the radio that that's why OSU was huddling vs Indiana. Figured he was just being paranoid. It's not illegal in CFB to steal signs, but it's kinda bush league.
It's not illegal in CFB to steal signs, but it's kinda bush league.Oh I disagree. I think it's an essential part of the game, especially in an era where there is so much communication from the sideline to the field.
Penalties were 8-1 yesterday. It was hard to watch. This was UW's final play. No call, in the end zone.Saw that on the highlights - home field call
The toughest was a no-call on UW's final offensive play, in the end zone.
Oh I disagree. I think it's an essential part of the game, especially in an era where there is so much communication from the sideline to the field.Considering the HUNH Offense keeps Defenses from substituting
Saw that on the highlights - home field callIt was PI. No call. Not a home field call at all, considering the PI's that went against the home team.
It was PI. No call. Not a home field call at all, considering the PI's that went against the home team.My bad I confused UW with "BIG RED" ;D .Head scratcher season the way Mertz came out of the chute
My bad I confused UW with "BIG RED" ;D .Head scratcher season the way Mertz came out of the chuteWhen you miss so many games, it's tough. IU was playing its 7th game. UW was playing its 4th and didn't play last week.

Shoot, the greatest WR in football history didn’t even play in the FBS.Randy Moss
UCLA @ ASU had a graphic about kickoff temps in Tempe.lucky SOBs, finally got some football weather
At 55 degrees, it was the third coldest kickoff in the last 20 years.
Lol :57:
I know the Gator fans near me were chilly at the Fiesta Bowl, when it was ...60 iirc.gator fans near me were hot
Oh I disagree. I think it's an essential part of the game, especially in an era where there is so much communication from the sideline to the field.Frost using the opposite sideline vs Penn St.
Ya I guess ASU missed like 3 weeks - hard to get any timingThey had played 1 game.

Florida's 30-20 advantage over Tennessee is even more impressive when you consider how completely dominant Tennessee was early on:10 meetings from 1916 to 1953. You'd never know that they were in the same conference with each other. From 2005-2020 UF is 15-1 against TN.
- Tennessee won the first ten meetings (1916-1953).
- Tennessee won 13 of the first 15 meetings (1916-1971) and over that span the average score was 19-7.
- As late as 2004, Tennessee still held a four game lead over the Gators, 19-15.
10 meetings from 1916 to 1953. You'd never know that they were in the same conference with each other.Swingers, basically.
For much of its history, the SEC was more a consortium of teams that occasionally played each other than a true conference.
Very true. For many years Georgia Tech, who was one of the SEC big boys, refused to even play the Mississippi teams despite being in the same conference. One might think that had something to do with segregation, but Tech was as lilly white as Ole Miss.White vs eggshell.....Egg Bowl....it's all connected.
I didn't realize that they were so bereft of history and tradition. We have tons of that. It just wore Crimson.
That must suck.
10 meetings from 1916 to 1953. You'd never know that they were in the same conference with each other.Exactly.
For much of its history, the SEC was more a consortium of teams that occasionally played each other than a true conference.
2 actual rivals basically held the rest of us hostage to get their games, and the rest of us were thrown together like a sandwich. It seems to me it would have made more sense to just not have permanent cross-overs for the other four (now five) teams in each division. At this point I don't think there would be too much wailing and gnashing of teeth even if they eliminated Bama/TN so they could just be like the B1G with only one permanent cross-over (UGA/Auburn for the SEC, PU/IU for the B1G).
Alabama-Tennessee were PB& J,
Auburn-Georgia were ham & cheese,
The rest of us are bologna & ketchup.
Except that this had absolutely nothing to do with it.
Back then TN/Bama appeared to make sense since TN had the best record against Bama of the SEC-E teams and on top of that second best was UGA who was paired up with Auburn so the next best would have been Florida and, pre-1992 that wasn't close at all with Bama owning better than a 2:1 advantage over the Gators.
