Cream is Rising
1 Ohio State - Undefeated
2 Indiana - only loss is to most likely our unanimous #1
3 Northwestern - 1 WTF moment
4 Iowa - horrible start.

The 2 Win Club - Do what you want, every team here has two wins; mostly against each other.
5 Wisconsin
6 Maryland
7 Penn State
8 Nebraska
9 Purdue
10 Rutgers
11 Illinois
12 Minnesota
13 Michigan State
14 Michigan - "We're gonna hang 100 on them." Ryan Day; Probably.

1. Ohio State: Pretty solid performance.  It was fun to see Justin Fields dedicate to making some plays in the run game.  He's been so focused on not being a running quarterback you forget he's a pretty good running quarterback.  The defense had a couple blips but was overall pretty strong.  And who else could you consider?

2. Indiana: Penixless, but not hopeless.  Jack Tuttle was a pretty strong recruit, too, and while their offense wasn't great, they were good enough.  The defense really came through for them, which was important on a day they were outgained by over a 100 yards.  They still have a chance at a B1G championship of OSU-Michigan gets nixed and the B1G doesn't change the rules.

3. Northwestern: Not sure how good they are, but also tough to put anyone else over them.  The defense is legit, which is enough.

4. Iowa: They've rounded into a pretty solid program.  That's a lot, this year.

5. Wisconsin: The offense has real problems.  Two games in a row they have struggled, and next up is Iowa.  Then maybe OSU.  They could finish 2-4 and still be a pretty good team.

6. Maryland: Feels high, but also, the league sucks

7. Penn State:  The universe is slowly righting itself

8. Nebraska: Challenging to rank, but hey they won so this looks like a good spot

9. Michigan: No result has shown them to be anything but a pretty average team

10. Minnesota: COVID derailed them when they were getting something going

11. Illinois: Actually came in and competed with Iowa.  Still not that good.

12. Rutgers: Sometimes the universe reminds you that Rutgers is still Rutgers. Barely eclipsed 200 yards.

13. Purdue: What the hell do I do with this team? From once being the favorite to win the West, they've lost four straight, mostly to the bottom half of the conference.

14. Michigan State: The bottom of the B1G isn't as hopeless as it used to be.

OSU- way a head of the other teams in the conference
Indiana- great year and closing the gap
Northwestern- wins the West in a crazy year
Iowa- solid even in defeat
Maryland- young and will be building
Wisconsin- Keep doing what they are doing it will come around
Nebraska- a little fight in them
PSU- really not much difference between 7-14
MSU-getting used to the new staff
Illinois-Lovies' beard was great
Michigan-Jimmy magic is all gone
Minnesota- if they paly they will be down several starters (and they are not OSU)
Purdue- think the wind is out of the season
Rutgers-there's always next year, they are better than last years version

1. tOSU - Best play of the day was watching Fields run downfield for a (possibly illegal) block. Hopefully they will be at full strength soon

2. Indiana - Defense...whaaat? No Penix so the defense stepped up to win the game.

3. Northwestern - Only by a slight margin, possibly a different game if they played...

4. Iowa - Stat of the day, 21 straight games holding opponents under 25 points which leads the nation by a large margin

5. Wisconsin - Rolls the little guys but struggles with above

Crap shoot on the rest but for fun...

6. Maryland - By default because of non-losing record

7. PSU - This year, two wins in a row means something

8. Minn - Honestly, I am having a tough time deciding

9. Nebraska - Just because they hung on to beat Purdue and suddenly this Martinez guy played

10. Illinois - Forgot that a game was more than 20 minutes

11. Michigan - Still feels wrong to put them this low

12. Rutgers - Getting throttled and still kept fighting but really because they beat the next two

13. MSU - No shame in getting trounced by #1 but they are not last because of the recent win over #3

14. Purdon't - Early season wins have faded, I believe they would lose both of those if played again

1 Ohio State - Not as dominant as last year, but they don't need to be in order to remain atop this Conference.
2 Indiana - They have amassed a nice collection of scalps for their mantle.
3 Iowa - Just needed a few games to get going.
4 Northwestern - because the rest of the league is quite a bit worse than Northwestern.
.
splitting hairs the rest of the way. As mentioned upthread, they all have 2 wins
.
5 Boilermaker - because one of their wins was against Iowa.
6 Michigan tate - because one of their wins was against Northwestern.
7 Penn State - On a two game winning streak.
8 Wisconsin - On a two game losing streak; albeit against Northwestern and Indiana.
9 Maryland - Similar resume to Wisconsin; 2-2 with the only two losses to Indiana and Northwestern.
10 Nebraska - they will probably beat the Gophers, making the crossover game for bowl eligibility.
11 Illinois - randomly inserting them between the two teams that they actually beat.
12 RutgerSs - got their pants pulled down by Penn State.
.
n/a 1 Michigan - at least they beat...
n/a 2 Minnesota - 2-1 in their last three, so not quite as dire as one might think.

1. Ohio State - They finally finished a game the way they are expected to. Right now, they appear to be in a class by themselves.
2. Indiana - Tom Allen should win the B1G coach of the year. They are playing great in all aspects of the game and showed it Sat by holding the Badgers to 6 points.
3. Northwestern - B1G West Champs. They play great defense and have a serviceable offense. This team will be a tough out for either tOSU or Indiana in the CCG.
4. Iowa - Iowa is only a few points away from being undefeated. They are probably playing the best ball outside of OSU and Indiana. I have a hard time ranking them below NW as I am not sure who would win on a neutral field. But being as they lost at home to NW earlier, I am giving NW the benefit of the doubt.
.
.
5. Wisconsin - Not sure what to make of this team. I believe they are better than their record but have no way to qualify that.
6. Maryland - Best of the rest
7. Nebraska - Looked competent Saturday
8. Penn State - Starting to remember how to play football.
9. Purdue - Who knows.
10. Michigan State - Ditto
11. Michigan - Ditto
12. Minnesota - Ditto
13. Illinois - Ditto
14. Rutgers - Ditto

NOTE, this is NOT my ranking, this is just my now usual weekly comparison of how the teams have done relative to their opponents' other opponents.

Notes:
For the four teams that have played seven games (IU, PSU, RU, IA), their opponents are simply ranked 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 based on raw score differential.  Example, IU:

For the six teams that have played six games (MSU, M, NU, IL, UNL, PU), their opponents are ranked 1.5-2.5-3.5-4.5-5.5-6.5 based on raw score differential.  Example, MSU:
These rankings are the average of the possibilities IF the team in question had played seven rather than six games.

For the two teams that have played five games (tOSU, MN), their opponents are ranked 2-3-4-5-6 based on raw score differential.  Example, tOSU:
These rankings are the average of the possibilities IF the team in question had played seven rather than five games.

For the two teams that have played four games (UW, UMD), their opponents are ranked 2.5-3.5-4.5-5.5 based on raw score differential.  Example, UW:

For all of the above:

Averages based on that:

Average of 1.80:
Average of 2.79:
Average of 2.88:
Average of 3.21:
Average of 3.50:
Average of 4.00:
Average of 4.08:
Average of 4.25:
Average of 4.42:
Average of 4.60:
Average of 4.67:
Average of 4.86:
Average of 5.08:
Average of 5.50:

So if we ranked by this it would be:

Average of 4.42:
  • Purdue:  First of seven against IA (1.0), third of six against NU (3.5), fourth of six against IL (4.5), fourth of five against MN (5.0), sixth of seven against RU (6.0), sixth of six against UNL (6.5).

So if we ranked by this it would be:
  • 1.80 Ohio State
  • 2.79 Iowa
  • 2.88 Wisconsin
  • 3.21 Indiana
  • 3.50 Northwestern
  • 4.00 Penn State
  • 4.08 Nebraska
  • 4.25 Maryland
  • 4.42 Purdue
  • 4.60 Minnesota
  • 4.67 Illinois
  • 4.86 Rutgers
  • 5.08 Michigan
  • 5.50 Michigan State

Take out the Iowa game, which again looks like the outlier, and Purdue would have a 5.1 average among the rest, good for 13th place.

That sounds closer to right at this point.

That is where I ranked them, and for that reason.  That Iowa game was long ago and I don't think ANYBODY would pick PU to beat Iowa on a neutral field at this point.  I'm still not sure what happened to Purdue and it might not be that they regressed just that everybody else progressed and they didn't.

There are two pretty big differences:
  • Bwar is taking out his team's BEST performance while you are trying to take out your team's worst.
  • PU/IA was week-1, UNL/IL was not long ago.

hey, I'm not telling Bwar what to ask for........

Results posted, votes through @fezzador (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=44) , 15 voters.

With only one week to go before the CG we still have very little agreement at the bottom.  The bottom six teams (MN, IL, PU, M, MSU, RU) are each only separated from the next one by about 0.5 so basically anything can happen.

Week 8 games by our rankings (as scheduled):
