I have lived in Illinois for over four years now and have yet to meet anyone willing to cop to being a fan of Illini football. I bet if you asked people on the street they'd swear Ron Zook was still the coach.

Illinois could be a good program.  Maybe.  Probably won't be.

It is interesting how in the past 20 years or so, some "lesser" programs have shown signs of life, Minnesota, NW, Iowa, etc., but Illinois and Purdue have barely nudged the needle, Purdue was looking like it was about to.

Even Indiana at times pushes the envelop and beats someone unexpectedly.

I see the OP's angle here. 

Woody Hayes really did pop Charlie Bauman in the jaw on national TV, the Bucks really do lose to Purdue every four years for no reason whatsoever, and they really did lose another coach over some illicit tattoos.
