1 - bama - again, did nothing to make me think they aren't still king.
2 - uga - didn't watch game, but scoreline looks about right, same as bama.
3 - lsu - made me at least think about putting them #1 or 2. very impressed. and that will go down as one of, if not the, best game of the season. really think both teams played well and should have a very strong remainder of season. lsu is definitely a player in sec this year.
4 - au - i predicted they'd win big, and gus would still find a way to piss off his fanbase. i'm chalking that up as a win for me. but noone else deserves this spot yet.
5 - uf - said they'd slowly/quietly start getting things figured out. didn't watch game, but scoreline looks like that might be the case.
6 - aTm - had a tough task ahead of them, and failed, but not miserably. still can make waves, but with their schedule, doubt they have a real shot at atlanta.
7 - kentucky - didn't watch much, but big win as was supposed to be.
8 - msu - similar to uk. i had them swapped last week, and i'm too lazy to change it back. until one of them impresses or falls flat, they'll occupy the 7-8 spots. both have good chances this week, though.
9 - usc - completely dominated a well overmatched opp. not sure what else to say. good luck this week?
10 - mizz - this is how i imagined mizz would be going into season. looked like a top half sec team, but can't ignore week 1. best of the bad so far.
11 - ole miss - won the loser bowl, so they won't be winless this year. huzzah!
12 - vandy - just couldn't get it going vs purdue. vandy might just be vandy again. oh how we hardly knew ye.
13 - arky - sad. was hoping they'd get some momentum this season. not to be. starring 0-fer in sec play in the face.
14 - tenn - when does relegation come into play in ncaa football? if they don't get a win this week, they'll go winless. not in just sec, overall.

Not really much to argue with here. Alabama, UGA and LSU look legit. You could certainly make the case for LSU at 1 or 2.
LSU finally has themselves a QB and that could be really dangerous for the rest of the SEC.
I expect them to challenge Alabama in the West. Perhaps LSU and Texas should settle down on the DBU chatter for a bit!
UGA really could have named the score if they really wanted to, I expect Bama's game went much the same way. Fromm and Swift didn't even play the entire first half. Pretty much everyone that dressed got to play. Other than one busted play that resulted in a 60 yd TD in the first half the defense looked really good. Backup QB threw a pick 6 in first half and third team D gave up a FG. Other than that not much to complain about.
Texas A&M--wish they would have shown a bit more vs. Clemson.
Tennessee is in BIG trouble. They'll beat Chattanooga, but the way they are playing it's tough to find many other possible wins on their schedule.

Florida didn't improve on offense, despite the score. All of the big passing plays occurred when Franks had 6-7-8 seconds to throw long. None of those plays happen vs an SEC defense. Zero.
Also, the OL didn't even mash UT-Martin in the running game. Yes, there were holes, and the stats look nice, but it wasn't dominance. Actually the OL looked great in pass protection, but again, it was UT-Martin.
I'm afraid the OL will retard any progress Franks & Co have made. The good news is we have 3 'easy' games to gain experience and improve before big-boy football begins.

Interesting tidbit for the UF @ UK game Saturday - neither team has lost since early November of last year. Gators an 8-point favorite.

one has an experienced QB and the other has a QB out for the season. Florida rolls in this one.

I wonder why the other 10 guys show up on offense then, if that's all that matters.

it's not all that matters....but we all know the offense starts with the QB. If one QB say....turns the ball over a bunch then well.....you know!

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't hold the QB above the RB or the OL as a whole in terms of importance. If you have a turnover-prone QB, then you as the HC need to call fewer pass plays and call safer pass plays. A QB's attempts should align with his ability level, period.
The best QB ever isn't going to do much without:
a decent RB threat
a good OL
WRs who can get open/catch the ball when you get it to them
Any weak link breaks the machine, the QB is no different.
-
Some QBs - they are rare - can do pretty well without other pieces being more than average, usually the mobile kind who are lucky.
But the drop off to your number 2 is usually rather large in terms of experience if not just talent.
-
That's on the coach, too. You can combat that issue.

It's usually tough to throw a true FR into the mix midseason. Usually.
