after a lengthy furlough... or sabbatical... or escape...
they've always worked, but you had to know the username you were mentioning including its case, space, or special character. the little drop box 'atwho' suggestion was broken.
i finally figured it out.
hold shift hit refresh... have at 'em.... type @ and a couple letters of the users name, and it will suggest the rest for you to select. or should... it better, by dang.
I don't know if bringing the alerts thing back is worth it... what says you?

The alerts function (for PMs, mentions and liked posts) is by no means necessary, but I preferred having it. Is helpful to keeping up with conversations I might otherwise forget I was having.
-
The only problem with the alerts is the expense to run it in terms of server resources. And with all the polling it does it gets hung ultimately and really sucks up some processor power.
i did this last night @Anonymous Coward (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=1513) ... If youve cleared your cache you should see it after I mentioned you. You can set your notifications up to act similar to the alerts with the only disadvantage that it doesnt auto refresh.... But you'll see the notice when you refresh thr page.

To this day I have never been able to locate this magic "refresh" button that apparently solves every problem imaginable, when it is pressed while holding down the shift key.

I'm guessing that it's in the upper-left corner of your browser, Brutus. Probably looks like an arrow going around in a circle. That's what I think it is, anyway.

The "reload this page" button?
Just tried it, and got nothing.
Oh well, good enough.

@Brutus Buckeye (https://www.cfb51.com/index.php?action=profile;u=31) , if you 'got it' you'll see a red PM indicator with a number in it telling you a new PM is present.. in this case, because you were mentioned. if you got that, you got the most recent.

It twerked!
The confusion stemmed from still getting the message to refresh.
