Horns beat a slumping Kentucky team 3-1 in Austin tonight as well.

Next up a rare back-to-back home-and-home against Stanford, should be fun.

Meanwhile Florida goes down @ Northern Arizona at high altitude.  Rough night for the top 10.
Stanford swept Penn St.   PSU another team with 8 new kids.  They have two really good middles,  setter seemed to struggle. Stanford as noted, keeps up the schedule grind with H/H w UT.   Stanford playing BYU, PSU, Minnesota and UT twice over two weeks.

Pitt sweeps #12 Washington.   Pitt gonna be top 10.
A school called UTRGV beat #15 Baylor in five sets.  Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros that is.  Baylor partied too much at George's last night after taking down Wisconsin.
Marquette gave BYU a run, but was out of gas, losing in 4 sets.  BYU will likely be #1, and they could run the table now in the reg season.
Penn St bounced back beating Oregon.
Minn at Stanford on Sunday.

The Cougars will run the table, IF... they survive the BYUte game.

Their conference is awful.

LINCOLN, Neb. - The No. 7 Nebraska volleyball team swept Iowa State, 25-22, 25-18, 25-16, in front of a crowd of 8,108 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Sunday afternoon. The Husker volleyball program also retired the jersey of Sarah Pavan, one of the most decorated student-athletes in NCAA history, after the match. A four-time AVCA All-American and a two-time Academic All-American of the Year, Pavan became the ninth Husker in school history to have her jersey retired.

Through Sundays matches.   Of course this doesn't say who beat who, etc.   BYU will likely be #1 this week.  Stanford #2 I'm guessing.   I've now finally watched all the 'top' teams sans Illnois and Michigan, cuz Michigan has so much money they are too busy counting to figure out how to stream a match.  They are an outlier in that regard.  Low brow.    I think the B1G is anybody's guess.
Of note: Michigan has yet to drop a set.  Colo. St. is their best win.  MSU dropped the opener at Tenn.   Ohio St. lost at Ole Miss. PSU and Minn lost at Stanford,  Oregon also clipped the Gophers.  Fla. took out Nebraska in Lincoln.  Badgers lost at Baylor.  Rutgers running out of chances to get to 8 wins.

StandingsOverall
Michigan9-0
Illinois8-0
Purdue8-0
Michigan State9-1
Ohio State8-1
Nebraska6-1
Penn State6-1
Wisconsin5-1
Maryland7-2
Northwestern7-2
Indiana6-2
Minnesota5-2
Iowa4-3
Rutgers5-5

Isn't Maryland being halfway decent notable?  I thought the east coast schools in general didn't really play volleyball.  Would be like Iowa fielding a solid lacrosse team.

It would be.   They do have a new coach, old coach  bailed for IU, narrowly missed ncaa last year.  I think their best win so far is probably Stony Brook so I may not be a believer just yet.

If Indiana is greener pastures, your program is in trouble.

Not to sound like a resident homer for the State of Indiana, but I could make it case for it being a much better gig than Maryland for volleyball.  IU is about to (in a week or so) open a brand new volleyball/wrestling facility, they likely threw decent $$ at Steve Aird ($231,000 vs $172,000 at Maryland), that's top 20 money overall, and probably 6th highest in the B1G, who is viewed as a rising star coaching/recruiting status.  B1G pays more for than any other league for vball HCs.   He signed a nice class for Maryland last year.  He's got a good coaching pedigree (assistant under Russ Rose), played at Penn St.   The State produces great volleyball talent, one of the best club scenes around (Munciana).

This data is a little old (2016-17) Base Salary, we all know there may be other forms of comp.
John Cook, Nebraska $600,000  (I know he also has a NC bonus of 20%)
Geoff Carlson, tOSU, 303,000
Chris Tamas, Illinois, 300,000
Kelly Sheffield, Wis, $298,000
Russ Rose Penn State (not known, must be in this higher range)
Dave Shondell, Purdue, $232,000
Hugh McCutcheon, Minn $156,000 (he is believed to receive over $400k)
Mark Rosen, Mich  $164,000
Cathy George, MSU $176,000

Rutgers coach was paid $95,000

BYU first time at #1 since 1986.   Alabama first time ever being ranked, and they get to play Purdue this weekend.
Stanford at UT hook up twice this week, first at Palo Alto Tuesday and then in Austin this weekend. UW at Marquette.
I'm gonna guess this is Pitt's highest ranking ever.  Hilarious that USC/UCLA are tied at #16.

If you're jonesing for sports right now and you get BYUTV (I do) you can watch #24 Utah at #1 BYU right now.  Should be a good match.

#2Stanford at #3UT Friday night on the blacked out network. I'm sure Utee gets it.  Stanford swept the Longhorns in Palo Alto on Tuesday night.   It was a very sad atmosphere in Palo Alto,   should be humming at Gregory Gym Friday night.
