The safest thing to do would be to get rid of the helmet entirely. Guys would stop using their heads as weapons that way.

Ehhh, me and my high school friends had plenty of injuries playing very competitive pickup football games.  More than bloody noses and shots to the balls, lol.  And none of us was huge or fast or strong.

Key being that you have fewer head injuries / concussions / CTE. 
Sure, there could be all sorts of injuries to all sorts of parts of your body... 

But none of them damaged your brain. I mean, you still get accepted to college with the head on your shoulders. Even if it WAS an SEC school

I was talking about head injuries as well.  Yes, you decrease the number of purposeful head-on strikes and injuries, but there are MANY more accidental blows to the head.  Countless undiagnosed concussions in just kids playing a pickup game.  Now up the athleticism, speed, force, and violence times 10 and tell me about the accidental head injury numbers.

Plenty of unreported and underreported concussions and other head injuries in soccer (at all levels).

There's so much money in that international sport, it's going to be the next big thing in liability, and could ultimately spell its doom, just as surely as the writing is on the wall for American football.  Just a matter of time at this point.

The problem is one of deceleration, and that requires time and space obviously.  No helmet can reduce deceleration without more space since time here is not a controllable variable.
You cannot decelerate an impact in 2 inches or so.  You need 3-4" to reduce it, in effect a larger helmet.
F = ma.  You can take that to the bank.  It isn't going to change.
So, in theory, a helmet that is enormous could "cushion" a blow by decelerating at a slower pace.  It would be quite large.
If you are in a bad auto accident, this is a factor as well and cars have intentional crumple zones to reduce the impact to the passengers.

He was very active the first few weeks here, and then stopped.  I saw he was active on Facebook , so he seems ok.
