Thank God for hunting. I think I’ll spend the rest of my Satuday’s on the deer lease or behind a scope putting a few down range. Tennessee Football is still trash. They play lost and soft. They might win the next 2 (and that’s debatable) but after that I’m not confident they can win a single game. It’s going to take longer to get past Butch Jones’ lack of S&C, discipline, and coaching this season than I have patience for.

WV wins 40-14

Every Vols' favorite QB, Will Grier:
25-34 for 429 yds and 5 TDs.

It was an enjoyable game.

But the WV QB’s dream of winning the ESPN fan boy heistman trophy will remain a dream. I’m sure he feels like he’s on top of the world. WV is the best they’ve ever been and TN is the worst they’ve ever been. Beating TN right now is nothing special sort of like beating  Vandy. But in the end a WV record of 8-4 or 9-3 won’t be enough.

Sooooooooo, not an expected outcome really, except that the offense didn't look very good and they could not run very well.

Anything else we learned?  The apparent talent for UTenn is insufficient?

I thought that RB, #9, was their lone bright spot.

I like this post combined with Grier being the National Player of the Week.

Tenn blew a few defensive plays with a bad play call, bit they were actually few.  The players were in position most the game, which is what scheme gets ya.  It's up to the athlete to make the tackle, and.... There are only a few on that team.

The WRs and runners looked good from second quarter on.. Not great but good.  The oline is still a mess.  They won't accomplish much without at least a decent OL... The QB isn't bad bit he's not great either.. He still stares down his target and is prone to really wind up like a windmill or something. Not good, and same as last season .

They lack toughness and roughness... I dont know if this team is a wash because of that or if the culture is just soft there now, but it isn't what it once was.  Until something happens to change that, such as a team leader emerging, they'll always struggle. The last one I can recall that fit that description os AJ Johnson. It's been a few years, y'all,

Apparently lost Kennedy (OL Center) yesterday to a season ending knee injury. I’m sure that’s going to cripple an already pathetic OL even more.

Drew, I remember many TN teams in the past that were tough and nasty mean. The last time we were tough and nasty was 2009 under Kiffen. At least the D was that year. The D wrapped up and hit hard. TN’s D players put a lot of opposing offensive players on the sideline that year either for the game, a few games, or for the season. TN’s been soft and timid since 2010 when Doo Little began recruiting 2 stars. Lyle comes along and recruits a little better but he didn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground and his schemes were horrendous and slow developing. Looking back, Dobb’s talent did a lot to hid Lyle’s incompetence. Without Dobb’s TN wouldn’t have won any more than 4 to 5 games per year. The guys TN has now have been stuck in high school coaching mode for so long they’re likely a lost cause. Because of Pruitt’s past, who he’s coached, who he coached with, and all of his accomplishments I was naively hoping that Pruitt could toughen them up some in 6-7 months but it appears soft play is deeply ingrained in most of the players internal being and it could be cultural as a team. I’m on the fence with Pruitt and the first game didn’t help me feel better. But, I do hope Pruitt is half the head coach that people claim he is as a D Coordinator. Key people within the program seem to be really high on him. We shall see.

I won’t watch the game this weekend or the next unless I record it on DVR. I’ll be too busy preparing for Deer Season putting another food plot or two in, setting poles for access gates, installing the gates, stringing barbed wire, putting more “No Trespassing” signs along the interior perimeter, and putting another stand or two up. I just might miss the Florida game as well but I will definitely DVR that game. While I love my Vols they aren’t my life come September of every year and how they’ve played over the past 8 years it’s been a lot easier to step way from the misery and into the woods.

What I’m really getting excited about is the cooler weather that’s coming so that I can get behind a scope and get some good trigger time in without sweating to death.

I liked that LB corps in the 90s - Al Wilson, Eric Westmoreland....who was the other one?  Not Leonard Little, a complimentary guy, but still good.

it's a lot easier to be less passionate about the team when they're as "self inflicted" bad as they've been.

folks who've only watched from afar and think the downfall is only about football peeve me, but... i really can't blame them.  it's like having someone really disruptive causing drama at work and attempting to explain that to superiors as some form of 'reason', when the simple bottom line mission is to accomplish what you're getting paid to do- not allow dumb shit to impact... but that is what's been happening on that hill between priorities shifting from education to social engineering, power plays by governors and their brothers- this is the kind of shit that provides story line for soap operas... and it will take time to recover, even if they can.
