if anyone is in florida and you're just completely neglecting to look at any weather, go watch it. this one is going to be nasty and looks like it coming right up the center of the peninsula.

185+ sustained winds. be safe fl and east coast people.

if that rascal breaks a right, i'm simply going to head to the UP of Michigan for the fall.  If it were just me, i'd simply stop by the beer store and stock up on some beef from the butcher- but, this family thing twists that tried and tested scheme- can't take any risks.  Besides, i've yet to get any hunting in up there... this would fix that.

Tropical storm Jose is right behind it, expected to become a hurricane by tonight, and may follow a similar path as Irma, though it's too early to tell.  This is looking to be a very active hurricane season, unfortunately.

We have had quite a few years of below average hurricane numbers and folks forget how bad they can be.

Our alarms are going off.  I didn't think the hurricane would have made it this far north yet.

so a slight deviation on the projected path and people here toss their minds to the elements.

there apparently isn't any water or gatorade to be had locally, and canned food is going quick.  fuel is in short supply anyway due to Texan's flipping the valve last week in response to Harvey... (not that i blame them- it just adds to the calamity here right now).

i have about an 1800 mile range with my truck when it's topped off.  I'll top it tonight, and load the trailer with 'extended stay' essentials.  I don't plan on staying here if it hits, for the first time since I've lived here.  it just isn't worth it- and.... i've got a house up north anyway.  may as well use it.

If it's headed your way, leave.  Nothing is worth this crap.

Grocery stores closing at 4, nothing in them anyway.  7 p.m. curfew is weird.  Several roads finally opening back up.  My little town didn't even flood, but if this had gone on much longer I was thinking about asking God to credit me with a fast.

i've been through most every storm through here over the last decade or so... well, two nearing... Floyd was ugly- really bad.  the fresh water runoff wasn't a big deal- was gone in a few hours... it's when the rivers started backing up that the trouble began.  it was flooded everywhere... curiously, I can see the Inter-Coastal Waterway from my house- which plants me within throwing distance from the ocean (almost literally), and it has never flooded here... ten miles inland?  not a good place to be... where i am at, though, and the Sound being right there with it's tidal pulls- it yanks all that water out twice a day.

I don't know anyone in Florida that doesn't keep their eye on the weather....

Yep, if your driver's license is issued by the State of Florida, you have termites and you are watching the weather.

I'm in Tampa and will ride this one out at home.  Some of my friends who live near the water will leave tomorrow for Atlanta.  Roads are going to be congested and I imagine that gas will be in short supply.

My mother is on vacation in NYC and is worried sick about her house in Kendall (SW MIAMI).

All of you in the path, I wish you the best and hope you stay safe.

Irma apparently has been less damaging than feared.  The insurance stocks that were down last week are recovering today (along with nearly all stocks).
