Steely Dan?  Doobie Brothers?  Other similar artists... all classified (loosely) as yacht rock.

It's not so bad.  Lots of fun tunes in that (artificially made-up) genre. :)

Ever notice how we as humans love to sort, categorize and label?  It's like our little bitty minds rebel against assessing things individually on the value of its own merit.  So much easier to group and dismiss...

Oh that's yacht rock.

Typical blonde.

The story takes place in Florida.  What do you expect?

They all drive that way.

Damn kids.

Oh you're one of those religious fanatics.

Freaking hipsters.  Bet they moved here from California.

Old people suck.

etc.

Anything by ABBA or the BeeGees or Barry Manilow for me.  And I really don't like bands like REO Speedwagon and Journey who started off as pretty decent garage rock bands but then went commercial with soda pop songs featuring those guys with high-pitched singing voices like Kronin or Perry.  I remember going to an early REO concert at the Tulsa fairgrounds where Gary Richrath played really mean extended guitar jams with the band on songs like Ridin' the Storm Out, etc ... but then they turned into a commercial success and it went to milk toast.  Yuck.

I love ABBA.  So does Dave Grohl from Nirvana/Foo Fighters, so I think I'm okay having that position.

Their tunes will definitely stick in your brain though, that's for sure.

My dear wife like ABBA too.  Or maybe she just enjoys knowing that I don't like them, and likes to taunt me with their music :)

I've always enjoyed musical theater, and their music is very theatrical.  So much, so, that they've made it into two musicals, apparently. :)

Any song I play on my boat is "yacht rock" as far as I'm concerned.

Anything by Whitney Houston or Celine Dion makes my skin crawl.
