Title: UT Football the Definition of Insanity
Post by: gymvol on October 28, 2018, 12:16:57 PM
Albert Einstein is credited with saying "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results."

We changed coaches but we still see the same people at the same key positions doing the same thing.

If the new coaches aren't willing to change some players at key positions then why the hell did we waste millions buying out Butch's contract?

Looks to me like the same old song just a different ochestra leader.

It's only a technical point, but Einstein never said that.

As for replacing Jones, that was inevitable after the middle of the season, 0-8 and all that.

As for hiring Pruit, well, there was some dissension in the ranks about who to hire.

In my mind, the Vols are doing about as well as can be expected with the talent they have, especially in the OL.

Pruitt has them not quitting and playing hard even when behind.  I'm sure he is making mistakes that are obvious after the fact.  So is Smart.

Smart however has a lot more talent in the stable, so he looks, well, smarter.

I was watching the WLOCP with some friends who flew down from Cincy (OSU fans) and repeatedly I would explain "Run the ball" and they'd pass and complete it, or "Pass" and they'd run the ball and make yards.

Nearly every play I "called" was wrong, or at least what was called worked, except on the GL that time.

I would have spread them out on the GL and run Fromm on a draw, but what do I know?  Not much.

anything different that what were doing on the goal line....geesh, that was tough to watch! maybe a play action rollout and hit a TE on an out or flag pattern?

i'm not terribly disappointed with UT this year- it's about what I expected given the roster.  i'm a broken record harping on the ineffectiveness of the O line.  it's terrible.

i DO think Pruitt has the right plan.  But of course this is from afar.  any contact i had with the program is gone long gone and i'm just like anyone else now watching the boob-tube and trying to put together what's happening.  I CAN say that the remaining elements on the program from the BJ and Fooley era are jaded- they despised the lack of intent of Dooley, and though they bought into Butch's hype it all turned out being a lie.  Selling something to kids that have been lied to is twice as hard as selling something that has tangible results.  The UT program is in such a condition that the job is exponentially more difficult than 'twice' as hard.

the last couple of decades has been humbling, to say the least... everyone looking at the program as we (either secretly or openly) looked at theirs has made me appreciate the game and the results of hard work more than ever insofar as this game is concerned- and it makes me respect the giants of the game whether i like it or not.

I agree.  Pruitt inherited a double mess, a team dispirited and unmotivated probably rife with internal issues, AND a lack of talent at key positions.

No coach turns that into something respectable quickly, it could take 4-5 years.  As for play calling, maybe Pruitt is still a work in progress, but the players were playing hard even when behind Bama a good bit.  That is worth noting.

Now it's going to require top ten recruiting classes.
