I think this (like hockey and baseball) has enough interest to have it's own thread too.

It's really soccer, wrestling, track, etc, where you get random posts here and there that don't need their own.  But during the fall, it seems like 80% of the Olympic thread is volleyball.  Probably because the Big Ten has been pretty good recently.

I as well attended the Red and White scrimmage (OSU version) and had the entire student section to myself. I had never sat there before. Even as a student, I didn't dare enter that scrum.

They have a TV game on Friday @ BYU on their network.

I attended that game last year, in the Blue Jackets arena. They had to play a game there in order to host the Final Four in that venue. BYU came back from down 0-2 to win it in 5.

Both Nebraska and UW have some potentially serious injury issues on their hands to open the season.

Nebraska's setter and returning AA Kelly Hunter may not start the season this weekend (matches at Florida and vs Oregon).

UW's returning AA  Molly Haggerty had back surgery over the summer and her status remains closely guarded to start the year.  Some pretty broad speculation about this as usual on the webs.  UW hosting the B1G v ACC challenge this weekend.

No worries.

You guys have the greatest setter to ever play the game, just waiting in the wings.

She is going to get her shot.

As an aside, I begin my vball coaching career tomorrow night for my daughter's 3rd/4th grade team.  I'm pretty sure we won't be having the kids set on night one.

When she get's done with you, you guys are going to be asking "Kelly who?"

When the person that you are asking replies "Hunter" you will then inquire "Atherton?"

I am thinking the Big Ten has some good teams, especially when Nebraska and Penn State are in the Top 10 nationally but not at the top of the Big Ten preseason rankings.

Iowa is up and coming, and has an excellent coach coming into his 3rd year. Bond Shymansky was 172-64 at Georgia Tech. He was 118-45 at Marquette. The turn around at Iowa is taking a little longer, but after two distinctly nonwinning seasons Iowa was 19-13 overall, and 9-11 in the Big Ten in 2016. Iowa has a lot of good high school girls volleyball players that in the past landed at other schools. I think it will turn around.

Bond Shymansky is an Iowa alum, to boot.
