P5 CG ticket prices
« on: December 01, 2017, 10:40:59 AM »
I was looking at the schedule on the Worldwide Leader's site and noticed something that surprised me.  These are the lowest ticket prices according to their partner, Vividseats for the P5 CG's:
  • $115 ACCCG:  #1 Clemson vs #7 Miami, BoA Stadium, Charlotte, NC.
  • $92 B12CG:  #3 Oklahoma vs #11 TCU, AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX.
  • $74 B1GCG:  #4 Wisconsin vs #8 Ohio State, Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN.
  • $46 SECCG: #2 Auburn vs #6 Georgia, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA.
  • $20 P12CG:  #10 USC vs #12 Stanford, Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, CA.

I'm frankly shocked at how low the SECCG tickets are and how high the ACCCG tickets are.  UGA and Auburn are both driving distance from Atlanta and both have lots of fans and legitimate playoff aspirations.  Miami has no fans and is probably a day's drive from Charlotte so the entire price of the ACCCG tickets is most likely supported by Clemson fans alone.

probably take those prices and cut them in half if you walk up to the stadium with cash 30 minutes before kick

Your data is wrong medina. You're missing a digit behind the 42 for the sec.
Get in the door price on stub hub now is 425.

I see that the data is wrong but that is on ESPN.

On their site right now (schedule) next to the SECCG it says "298 tickets from $68" but then when you click that link the starting price is $424.  So apparently I can't trust the numbers on ESPN's schedule and I have to actually click the link for each game.  Then you get this:
  • $424, SECCG
  • $120, ACCCG
  • $93, B12CG
  • $77, B1GCG
  • $20, P12CG

That makes more sense.  SEC is the one conference that fully gets behind it.  Kind of like the ACC and their hoops tourney, or the Big Ten and the Rose Bowl.  It's kind of weird how the value or certain postseason event swings so drastically on a conference basis

I've attended all the BIG title games, until this year.  Iowa v MSU, was the hardest and most expensive for me to scalp.  Only UW v N was a significant discount.  Other games stayed right near face or slightly over. I haven't shopped for nosebleeds.

Edit, how did I forget last year, GopherRock and I worked over some guys for decent seats last year at about half face.  Game was still well attended just good supply by overzealous buckeye fan.

I'd guess attendance at Tenn, Florida, and A&M were down pretty hard later in the year.

Actually, the last Gator home game had decent attendance against UAB, at least announced ticket sales of almost 85K.

The stands may not have shown that, but the figure that counts does.

Tenn had announced attendance of nearly 96 K for Southern Miss in November.

I read somewhere that Purdue was up in attendance by 12K or so per game. Some of the other B1G schools must have been down to end up about even as a conference.

I know Kinnick is finishing refurbishing parts of the stadium

are seats being added?

The Huskers have actually removed some numbers by making the seats wider

Not sure about Iowa. PSU is reducing the number of seats, I believe, but I'm not sure if that happened yet.

Iowa is decreasing capacity about 1,000 - 1,500 down to around 69,000.
The schools are more interested in profits than in attracting fans. This is an excellent mid-term strategy. In the long haul, over a 10-year time frame, after these administrators are gone, I am not so sure.
Michigan had a 100,000 seat stadium for years that usually seated in the Mid-70,000s. Perhaps they couldn't maximize ticket prices, but in the longer term they maximized fans and revenues. We have a 24-hour news cycle. We have a 5-year outlook on stadium refurbishments because they think the next one will be in 10-years after the last one, and the administrators seek to look good in their tenure only.

Iowa's 4-part stadium, which I think looks like an abomination, is now an advantage. Iowa never has to replace the stadium. They can replace one part at a time, and capitalize the cost for individual parts.
