UF vs UM
« on: August 14, 2017, 10:53:16 AM »
[member=58]OrangeAfroMan[/member] , How big a splash is losing those 6 players in the opener going to cause?

I figured it would be a close game before that... I don't know enough about either team, really, but it seems to me Harbaugh would have the advantage over McElwain simply based on perception of who gets their team better prepared... but... UM is also in a bit of reloading, no?  UF is going to be rock solid on D again...

what is your opinion on the matter?

I'm going with Michigan. Florida should have been able to win this game with all the personnel losses by Michigan. However this seven player suspension indicates that they are not focused. I think Michigan by 10.

i'm inclined to agree with you, Joe.  even before the suspensions i'm leaning more toward UM.  Harbaugh is a tactician, and this game is much more akin to a bowl game than a regular season game with time to prepare... the difference being lack of sync and gel early on- which i wager is something UM has the edge on with types of O.

I surely don't mind being wrong, though.  I don't have a dog in the fight with this game, except i've got this dream bordering on fantasy of both UF and UTk being undefeated when they meet up a couple weeks later.

Losing your best WR is never good.  None of the other players matter much.

The way I look at it is either Florida has a competent QB or it doesn't.  There are plenty of able bodies at WR, but yeah, Callaway is the best of the bunch.  The slot guys should stay in the slot or take turns manning the outside in Callaway's absence.

The other guys suspended:
backup DE
3rd string DE
2 LBs not on depth chart
FR possible backup/3rd string OT
like 4th string DT

UF wins by 2 TDs instead of 3.  :)

Guys, Michigan lost TWENTY STARTERS. TEN on defense. SEVEN on offense. ONE P. ONE PK. ONE LS. 10+7+1+1+1=20.

tOSU proved in the CFP they weren't all that hot. Harbaugh could not beat tOSU with those 20 players. He is not going to beat UF without them.

More food for thought. Phil Steele's #1 Surprise Team in 2016 was Washington. His #1 Surprise Team for 2017 is Florida.

UDubb started out ranked pretty high last season as I recall.

Florida isn't going to win unless it gets some QB play.  And Michigan's DL will be just as good this year as last year.

Points should be hard to come by for both teams.

Washington was ranked 14th in the 2016 AP Preseason Poll. Florida is projected to be ranked about the same this year. Which will be released 8/21. Florida was ranked 16th in the Preseason Coaches Poll.

Well hold up....it's 2 more suspensions, but the same issue.  The PD simply hadn't uncovered that they were in on the same scheme as the previous 7.

10 players suspended gets the headline, but it's actually only 2 events - 9 players in a cash-making scheme and 1 player with a weed arrest.

It's just stupid and now I'd be surprised if Florida is on par with Michigan.

hate to see kids with such talent do bone headed crap and destroy their prospects... i realize that hasn't happened yet, but... if they've nfl ambitions (i'm sure they do) they just dropped out a parachute they now have to get themselves detached from.

FL doesn't look impressive at all. Their QB play and run game is horrible. The D shows up every now and then.

Or is Michigan that good?
