fall camp starting

bama;s fall camp starts today. what's the big storylines to lookout for with your teams?

for bama, to me, it's 3 things:

dline depth - the starters are all fairly well known and should be similar to last couple years. where we lack is depth from last 2 seasons. interested to see if we have that depth or just bodies at this point.

kicker - our fg kicker wasn't all world, but he wasn't terrible either. but he's gone either way and a new guy is in now. a frosh. can he be consistent? he won't be asked to bomb many long game winners, but he needs to be able to be consistent from 35-40-in.

right side of oline. there is a bevy of talent, but oline isn't always about 5 guys with talent. there needs to develop a cohesion and understanding between the tackles, and i'm hoping the top 5 can be identified and work together for a majority of the camp.

didn't something like this 'Hand' thing happen last season too? Something about a concealed weapon on campus?

....

at any rate, Bama should be fine with or without him... a lot more scary with him..

UTk is having a competition for the QB role.  That could be indicative of a good thing, but it's been my observation that kind of indecisiveness leading into the season doesn't work out too good for team chemistry, and provides a 'late start' on the gel all great teams have.

not sure if it was last year or year before, but it wasn't on campus, it was in louisiana (kids hometown). and there were 4 people in the car, 2 bama players and 2 of their hometown friends. the 2 bama players were arrested for weed i think and then the car was searched and found a gun. the other 2 kids weren't arrested for some reason. the la da didn't charge cause of all the discrepancies in the case. not saying they were innocent, but there's enough doubt there that i'm not sure anyone but them knows what happened.

hand had been out at bars and had parked at a publix, which is centrally located around about 8-10 bars in walking distance. he went back to his car and decided to sleep off his buzz, turned car on cause it's july in bama. car cranked and drunk is letter of the law, so no issue with the arrest, but it's not as bad as a dui sounds.

don't get me wrong. those were bad decisions and bad spots they put themselves in. and deserve some kind of punishment.

Someone should challenge that, then.  If the car isn't in D or on a road, it ain't "driving".

Some things I've heard for Florida:

There's a surprise at G/C, the backup C, Heggie, is playing well enough to get time or even start at G.
DB Gardner was going to play CB, but was thought to be moving to S after Harris got hurt, but will stay at CB, at least for now.
WR Dre Massey is healthy.  He tore up his knee on the first kickoff of the season last year and missed it all.  He's a slot guy who can line up at RB.
Freshman WR Robinson is eligible.  He had an academic hangup that was still up in the air until recently.
I mentioned 3 Freshman DBs in the other thread that may be pressed into PT, and one is practicing at S and 2 at CB:
S - Stewart
CB - Henderson
CB - Wilson
Florida has been in a base-nickel the last 3 years or so, but looks to be going back to a 4-3 this year under DC Randy Shannon.

Hogs had their first scrimmage Saturday. Austin Allen was 19 of 22 for over 300 yards with two drops. If the line can protect him he's gonna have a great year. Frosh RB Chase Hayden had 115 yards on 15 carries with two TDs including a 74 yarder. All of that was against the two's. The #1 D looked ok. They're still ironing out the switch to the 3-4. I love Fall camp. Easy to stay optimistic

from what i understand after days and weeks of discussion on radios here, it's a fairly common law in the states. majority have similar laws. the laws read 'operating or in physical control' of a vehicle, not driving, and it falls under attempting to operate or having control of the vehicle. some go as far to give dui's for people sleeping in a car even when it is NOT running, but they have access to the keys while in the car.

As it relates to Bama, to me, where Fitzpatrick is going to play will play a huge role in determining if we start Diggs at CAB or Jones/Thompson at S.  Diggs got toasted regularly in the spring by Hurts (yikes) and Jones is nowhere near the same mold as Collins/HaHa.  Thompson is a WR size guy playing safety and has yet to play serious snaps in a game.  Here's to hoping someone sucks a lot less than the others

No real update on the Florida QB race, all 3 guys are splitting reps with the #1s.

Ohio law comes down to key in the ignition. Brother-in-law got a DUI for sleeping off his buzz and had the radio on in the car (which needed keys in ignition.)

I fell asleep in my car with the radio on, (which did not need keys) while waiting for my wife and friends to leave a concert, officer knocked on my window and started the going down the DUI process, I argued the keys were not in the ignition and just the radio was on. But finally had the epiphany moment "oh wait, I haven't actually drank any alcohol, can't I just blow in a device to end our interaction?"

quick recap so far:

dline looks like it might be finding the right pieces.
oline still shuffling a little, but lots of high quality tools to work with.
k - this one is the problem. anyone got a spare?
