An Ode to 1997 SOC September 22
« on: September 22, 2018, 07:22:23 AM »
It's been a long time since 1997.  I graduated high school, then went off to college.  I didn't even really follow football that much, but a kid from Michigan was all excited all year.  Charles Woodson, he said, all the time.  Looking back, the Big Ten was pretty solid, too, with an Andy Katzenmoyer led Buckeye team.  Mike McQueary (yep) was quarterbacking Penn State and handing off to Curtis Enis.  Purdue was full on Joe Tiller, and Iowa still had Hayden Fry.  Michigan beat them all.

Of course, a not yet B1G Nebraska, led by Scott Frost, stole some of Michigan's thunder that year, just one year before the BCS would unite college football under a ring of cash.  It might have been the last real year of of what we consider old school college football.

In any event, my daughter has a soccer game in the middle of nowhere today so I might be sparse.

Saw Ozzy last night. For a "70 year old f**k" (his words), he did pretty well. But I went to see Ozzy and a Zack Wilde concert broke out. Not that this is a bad thing - the dood can absolutely rip on a guitar. Lots of solos and instrumentals - Ozzy sang for maybe an hour total in the 90 minute show (including encore).

He could still sing the songs he selected, but left out some of the favorites (high notes and all that).

All in all, not a bad show, but given that I've seen him about 12 times over the years, this one was a little bit of a letdown.

No More Tours 2. We'll see. I saw No More Tours back in 1994 or whatever. Maybe I'll see him again in 2042?

I saw him a lot in the late 90s/early 2000s when he was doing the Sabbath reunion, and he was having a lot of problems with his voice even back then. I can only imagine what it's like now.

Somehow, some way, it was better. But, as I said, there were no "high note" songs. The only one he managed in that regard was Crazy Train, which was the last song of the set.

I think I should also add my Ozzy writeup to the Michigan and Nebraska thread. It fits, in a has-been sorta way.

So, if I read it write, sounds like The Fighting Lovies punched PSU in the mouth last night, ran out of gas and got the Franklin Treatment in the 4th quarter (35 points)?

My team's volleyball matches overlap the early window. I assume I'll miss some dandy turnovers.  330 is a little thin today.

That 97 Michigan team is probably lucky it didn't play Nebraska.  UM's strength was pass D, and UNL didn't pass much.

I'm also going to a kid's soccer games today, then helping a co-worker with a table alteration.  Fun stuff.  Gotta be finished by the time Florida kicks off, though.

Urban's clips make another appearance on Gameday

he made an error

he can't square it

he was devastated by the firm harsh suspension

I remember my wife getting tickets for Steely Dan about five years ago.  I had seen them a handful of times between 1994 and then, usually fantastic.   At this point though Walter Becker (who has since passed) was wearing sweatpants.  Fagan was fine but  I was like 'no more old fogey tours' for me.
