I thought fall had arrived but summer has come back in Columbus.  Hot and humid again today, which is never optimal football weather.I got stuff to make meatloaf, but hot and humid isn't great meatloaf eating weather, either.  Using a serious eats recipe, which calls for anchovies, so I'll probably have to make it on the downlow or else no one will want to eat it.

Boy, the U would sure make a nice scalp for the Rockets to add to their collection.

Stick that one on the mantel, flanked by Penn St and Michigan.

Not sure what I am cooking just yet, but I took a bunch of different sausages out of the ice chest yesterday, so a sausage sampler platter is going to start things off. Almost all the dockmates are here so we'll run through those.

Also out of the ice chest.. ground beef. Maybe I'll just do burgers.

Trying to empty the ice chest before we move.

Spent the one Saturday of real football weather in Nashville where it was like 90 and humid, return home and it's about 30 degrees warmer than it was last Saturday.

Have soccer and tee ball this morning to get through.  I hate the baseball schedule here, they have spring and fall ball, but no summer.  Means it directly conflicts with soccer, with nothing in the summer.  I find it incredibly stupid.  I love baseball, and struggle to get into starting a new season in September.  But kids sports being what they are now, you skip fall ball, even at age 5, you are on some shit list.  And I have the rare 5 year old where baseball is his favorite sport.

I opted out of fishing today, in favor of a couple of more cocktails last night. My buddy's been gone since 5AM - should be back by 9AM with the coho. I'll cook some of that tonight too.

I put anchovies in many things, that my family doesn't know about.  When chopped and used in another dish, they just add a depth of flavor.  Not like when eaten whole, which I also like on a pizza sometimes...

Rutgers who?
Texas is playing USC tonight at 7 Central.  Sadly it won't be much at all like that game 13 years ago.

I usually use fish sauce because it keeps better, but both are very underrated, underused ingredients that I never tell anyone about because they usually just make a face.

Supposed to be REALLY rainy all day today, so I'm ditching my plan to smoke pork spare ribs. Not sure what I'll do for the game, maybe just order pizza.  The kids would be happy...

Anchovies are one of my favorite ingredients. I can't stand eating them alone or on a pizza or whatever, but man do they ever add umami to a dish. Really good stuff.

Rutgers is the other half of those two B1G newbies. The other is Maryland.
Kinda sad to see what's happened to USC and even more so to Texas. Of course, not all the schools can be top-15 programs and if a few have to fall so mine can ascend.. I'm good with that.
