if two women's volleyball teams from the state of Nebraska can be in the top 10, then it stands to reason that UNL should be able to have one football team in the top 10

The difference is every girl in Nebraska grows up playing volleyball, over anything else, and the whole country plays football, though decreasingly so, save a few states in the south .

The amount of D1 vball talent produced in Nebraska is remarkable. I remember doing a study of Big Xii rosters in the 90s, and only the state of Texas had more players on rosters in the XII than Nebraska and it was relatively close.  20+ million to 1.5million.  On a per capita basis it is Nebraska by a wide margin in the US.

It seems as though there's been a minor rule change regarding set #5.

For the past couple of years, the teams would remain on the same side of the court that they were on for the 4th set, then switch sides as soon as one of the teams reaches 8 points.

Last night I was at a mid-week game where they switched sides after the fourth set, and then switched sides again once one of the teams reached 8 points.

That's perceptive.  I guess I haven't watched a match go 5 yet this season.  Didn't know this.  I'm still trying to keep track of the challenge rules for replay.

I think the best rule change ever was awarding a point for a side out.

When I was at OSU, a team had to be serving in order to score a point, and the games would just go on forever.

At multiple points in a set there would be like 5 side outs in a row; some with really long volleys.

It seemed like ten minutes would go by without either team being awarded a single point.

Good for stats, I suppose. But bad for just about everything else.

Rally scoring was the best change to the game by a mile.   Full credit goes to former Michigan State (and USC) HC Chuck Erbe.  He lobbied for that (among other things, he was an eccentric guy) forever.  The side out, play to 15 was indeed brutal.  I can think of a couple of matches I attended in the mid 90s that were absolutely 3 hours plus.    Even 3 set lopsided matches could drag.   It was also ruinous for TV scheduling purposes.

Yup, rally scoring was awesome in beach volleyball, and I was delighted when they finally adopted it for the inside game.

Horns beat the hated Aggies last night.  I celebrated with a delicious Oktoberfest beer.

Watching OSU take on Dayton in the Capital Centre tomorrow is going to be hilarious.

They probably could've found a local HS with a bigger gym.

All seasonal brews are Just in Time inventory.  If you don't have it to the distributor by August,  you run the risk of not getting it on the truck at all.   That's why its a seasonal, not an actual October beer.  You wait til October and as noted Utee has moved on to buying sixers (or more) of Winter Ales, as the existing inventory of Octoberfest brews sits in the discount rack getting old.
