Title: longhorns... bball game tonight...
Post by: rolltidefan on December 22, 2017, 09:57:00 AM
good luck. hows your team looking and who should i keep an eye out for? also, if anyway is making it to game, let me know.

for bama, if you haven't seen already, keep your eyes on the frosh. sexton is getting most of the love and rightly so. quick as lightning and can get to rim any time he wants vs anyone. so smooth with the ball.

2 other frosh are playing well too though. petty and jones. petty is a lefty spot up shooter and can light it up. hit 10 treys in a game earlier this year. jones is the steal of the frosh class, he grew 3-4 inches over the summer and is pretty good lock down defender. takes charges like i've never seen, which is a weird thing to praise.

as for upper classmen, big man hall and giddens are pretty good combo. gidden is a little better offensively, but is a foul machine. hall has really improved offensively, but not spectacular, but he is a boss around the rim on d swatting shots left and right. key has been hurt all season, just came back last game, but looked lost. he was best player on team last year though so if/when he gets it back he'll be a good addition. but not likely this game from what i've seen.

the rest are ingram (can score some and provide good minutes coming off bench), aj jr (can get hot, likes to take his shots, but mostly a rest man for sexton) and norris (good d, hustle guy, is hot/cold from 3 land but can fill it up if hot).

overall, we're a good team with some great individual players. still working on rotation issues with guys coming back from injury (had 3 to start year and last one (key) is just now back on court). we like to run and get pace going up and down court. fun team to watch, which, aside from winning more, is a breathe of fresh air from what we've had last 5-8 years.

good luck gents.

cheers

The Horns tee it up tomorrow night for a 4 game series against Stanford

Stanford is ranked 16th in nation so this should be a good indicator of just how good this Horns team is

PS: Yes 95 all four games will be on the LHN

The Horn swept Baylor last weekend and are currently in 2nd place behind the sooners

Im still not sure just how good this Horns team is

Next 4 games will tell us something but certainly not much.  They could lose them all and still have a good season or win them all and still have a bad season.
But I’d love to see Texas win most of them if not all.  It’d make next week a tad more relaxing and less worrisome.

75 and sunny here in the CP.  We swam in our pool, water was chilly but after running 6 miles jumping in felt pretty great.

Crazy talk.

I'd grill and mow under a dome if I could and I imagine Junior would go boating under a dome if he could.

Weather's nice and all, but mitigating extreme colds and hots and humidity is even more better.

If I could spend the rest of my life in a 65 to 85 degree climate, I'd be fine.

And these dern fool MLB cities that don't have domes adversely affected my fantasy team.

If you're going to have a MLB team in your city, you need to have a better handle on the weather.  If these crazy teams won't dome they should move the teams to cities with better weather.   Or at least move the games.

When Htown flooded, the Stros had to play the Rangers in Tampa.  Who are the White Sox to simply postpone a game until later in the month?  Make them play the game in Corpus Christi.

Overall this seems to be a good team.   Pitching has been this teams weakness since the beginning of the year.   It can be shaky at times and it seems as if the team gets in these 3-0 / 4-0 holes and is having to comeback.   Hitting has improved year over year.    Taking two of three from OU last weekend on the road was exactly what we needed.    Two of our last three conference series will be on the road as well.

Sup, TF?

I like the Horns chances against WVU & TCU.

How many they can steal in Lubbock could have conference championship implications.

So... my 3 youngest ninos & I are venturing into the ATX this afternoon to see the Horns vs Horns spring game under the lights extravaganza.

If nothing else, we should see a lot of college girls and we all enjoy that.

I have a daughter at Tech.  :smiley_confused1:  Tech has it going on in baseball.   They have been to the CWS two of the last four years.   This year Tech is 20-1 at home and they will win this weekends series against OU.  OU is getting ready to go from first to fourth in a weeks period of time.     If we take care of business and win as we have been doing since the first of April, we will host a regional.

College girls are like campfires. They’re mesmerizing to watch, pleasant to be around and smell good.  They can even leave their lingering scent on you. But you always have to keep in mind that if you poke em with something it’s liable to get burned.
I like the way so many wear short dresses or skirts to games nowadays.  Most of the Texas games I went to were in the 60s, 70s and 80s.  Chicas worr jeans back then.
Then I got married, had a bunch of kids and was so poor I didn’t even have two nickels to rub together.  Now 25 years later, it’s different.
Sam ehlinger continues to unimpress me.  I’m beginning to suspect he’s not very smart.
It’s a shame Herman isn’t willing to play the better card he was dealt.

The kid has moxie.  I imagine he’d run into a brick wall a hunnerd times if he thought that’s what it took.
But Buechelle, Rising and especially Thompson all seem a bit football-smarter.  Like maybe we should run around the wall or toss the ball over it.
I don’t know the kid and my opinion in just that - an arbitrary opinion based on a sampling of impressions.   Maybe I’m misjudging him.
Maybe I was just hoping I’d see signs that Ehlinger was playing smarter this year.  Maybe I didn’t see what I was hoping to see.
Herman seems to want a tough QB. His offense is fitted to a tough QB.  Bechelle would be better served by a different offense, IMO.  Maybe Rising would too.  I liked what I saw in Thompson.  Ehlinger is probably the best fit for Herman’s offense but I honestly do not believe he’s the best QB on the team.  Texas will probably be fine overall but Ehlingers boneheadedness will probably make us all cursing alcoholics.

I didn't watch the game.  I've found that I have no use for spring games, they tend to just mislead me about the upcoming season, so I don't bother with them anymore.

Spring games are dog and pony shows for fans. They actually waste a practice that the head coach would probably want to deploy differently. You don't learn much. We only watch because its the last football we'll see until September.

Lil'Jordan Humphries wants to play. He's strong, smart, and can get the football from any starting position on the field. He'll really help the offense. Colin Johnson can be un-coverable 1 on 1 if he wants. He can jump up and catch anything.

Past that, the offense is reliant on an offensive line that we haven't seen yet. Adding Calvin Johnson at LT should cause an upgrade ripple. There are many moving pieces who should provide depth and versatility. However, like a lot of "shoulds" in life, none of this has happened yet. All the "skill" players on offense are wasted until that happens.

The defense has to be contained by the coach. Otherwise, they'll kill someone. Todd Orlando has at least 3 players that can pass rush from anywhere his sick mind decides to send them. If he arrives at a secondary combination, the defense won't drop far.

I'm not glossing over the "offensive line" bit. That's like saying, "This car will really go fast - as long as the engine block isn't cracked...".

After reading Doppel's post, I googled dog & pony shows to comport my wild imagination.

Not quite as scandalous or risqué as I had hoped. Just a small traveling circus.

But why dogs?  Why ponies?

Why not a raccoon and penguin show?

I'd go see that.

kittens and rhinos could be interesting.

You'd definitely want a very high ratio of kittens to rhinos though.   Maybe 600 kittens and three rhinos.

Crocodiles and Monkeys!

Possums and raccoons.  Put several of each in a cage, along with a dumpster full of old food, and see what happens.

If I had to wild-guess it, I'd say that it was a "dog and pony" show because it was cheap entertainment.  Dogs are plentiful and easily trained, whilst ponies are in the process of being trained but have not yet grown into their most useful form as a beast of burden.

But, that's completely out of my arse based on maybe 5% historical accuracy and 95% pure conjecture.

I don't see how crocodiles could play baseball.  As a matter of fact the only sports I can see crocodiles participating in would be swimming, very short dashes and perhaps hurdles, as the hurdles themselves.

Monkeys could definitely play baseball.  Dogs could field and run down baserunners but they would need help with pitching and relays and they would definitely need DHs.   Raccoons could probably swing a bat and maybe pitch.  They would require a lot of coaching but in time a team made up of dogs and raccoons could probably develop into light competition for monkeys.
