Things we take to heart about a season

Only one team "wins it all", but the rest of us can find some positives in a season (usually).  I was pondering what those are:

1.  Have a winning record.
2.  Win a bowl game.
3.  Finish ranked.
4.  Finish in the top 10.
5.  Finish in the top 5.
6.  Win your division.
7.  Win your conference (this to me is a large item).
8.  Make the playoffs.
9.  Make the NC game.
10.  Have a player win a notable award.
11.  Have a lot of underclassmen who really developed in the season.
12.  Upset a top ten team, or have that one special win over a rival to win the Stone Ax Handle Cup.

So, as we enter this new year, let's be positive!  Did I miss something?

Beat Iowa. Beat Little Red. Beat a fading helmet in a bowl game.

Brought the Axe back to the Twin Cities. 

Found a RT who is a freakish talent that, if he works at it, could be a single digit draft pick in a few years.

Do folks think refs at times "have it out" for a specific team?  Or are their bad calls just random?

They're all human. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them have it in for certain coaches - the ones who act like spoiled children on the sidelines. Home teams tend to get a little benefit.

But in general? I'd say no.

Terps fans do.
It's the Edsall Effect.  His brother was a ref, and they are a band of brothers, so when Randy was fired, retribution took effect.

• Beat IU.
• Huge win against OSU. 
• Beat 3 ranked teams. 
• Made a bowl. (let's not get into the rest of that story. 
• Everything Rondale Moore did. 
• Tyler Trent. 
• Kept Brohm.

But in general? I'd say no.

I can see were Pelini caused some ill will from some refs
I never thought refs or crews would call games trying to influence them, but the game the Huskers played in College Station vs the Aggies in 2010 convinced me the conference instructed the crew to punish the Huskers
after seeing some stats on holding calls since the Huskers joined the B1G, I'm not certain the conference wasn't sending a subtle message

I could see it happening in rare occasion, refs are human, and who can know what they are told?

I still see it mostly as an excuse.

Beat Michigan, win the Big Ten, and win the Rose Bowl. 

Done, done and done.

1) Blew out a fading helmet team in a bowl game.
2) Beat Iowa in Iowa City. I love seeing the Badgers beat Iowa.
3) Made it to a game this year--against a helmet team--and the Badgers won! (It was Nebraska, and they stunk, but that's better than Austin Peay).
4) Jonathan Taylor won the Doak Walker award. Which is nice.
