~2018-19 NHL Thread~
« on: September 14, 2018, 03:16:25 PM »
Henrik Zetterberg announced his retirement today, it's a shame he didn't get to go out on better terms.  I know his back had gotten bad, and was hoping he could at least come back and play in a few games in Februayr or March to get the send off he deserves.  Oh well.  Kronwall is really the only guy left from Phase II of the Red Wings Golden Era, and he was never really a face.  Phase I was the Yzerman/Federov/Shanahan group, with Phase II being the Datsyuk/Zetterberg group, Lidstrom as the bridge between the two.

They've been stuck with one foot in the past and one in the future for like 5 years now.  I was hoping they were simply held hostage by the playoff streak, and once that broke they'd commit to rebuilding, but doesn't seem to be that way thus far.

Kid making his debut tonight for Montreal will be the first guy to reach the 4 major leagues who was born in the 2000s.

Haha, they changed all the seats in Little Caesars Arena to black so it's not obvious how empty it is.

Didn't Yzerman move back to Detroit recently? Is that for purely personal reasons or is there a reason to think he wants to (and could) move into the front office? I'm not a big believer in panaceas, but ...

This used to be a relatively active thread, not so much this year.  Red Wings and Blackhawks both sucking hurting it?

Playoffs start this week, which is when I actually pay attention somewhat.  Any thoughts?  NHL playoffs are always more random than the NBA, but I just have a tough time seeing anyone beating the Lightning 4 times in 7 games.  I'll take them over the Pens in the ECF, Flames over the Jets in the WCF, with the Lightning winning it all.

And what's got into the Islanders?   I'm no hockey guru, but I don't think I've noticed the Islanders this late in the year since I was a kid in the 80s.
