What's Shakin' this offseason?
« on: March 29, 2019, 12:29:10 PM »
How's it going with you all during this long offseason?    Have any big projects or upcoming trips you are working on and care to share?

Feel free to share the good, the bad, or the ugly of what's going on in your world or how you are passing your time this year.   I especially love hearing where you are venturing in the world if you have vacations planned.

For me, we are trying to get to Croatia this summer but still working out where we want to fly in/out of and find the right flight specials.  So we haven't gotten very far yet but it's getting to be that time to kick into gear and start cementing the plans.   Our buddy who lives there has a new boat and wants us to go sailing around the Mediterranean with him, so trying to work that out is on my agenda.

My best friend turns 40 this year and wants to do a Vegas trip, so that's starting to get planned as well but it's not until October and I fear it may be the weekend of RRR, based on her proposed dates.  I've never been to Vegas, so who knows, if it is on RRR weekend, I can perhaps have two firsts:  1st visit to Vegas and 1st ever sports-bet (although I'm always hesitant to put money on my own team even though I don't really gamble anyway).

The Good:  Taxes are done and actually didn't owe as much like last year since we adjusted our withholding.  Feels good to have that behind us early for once.
The Bad:  Interviewed for a new job 2 weeks ago that I would have gladly taken, but didn't get the offer.  Womp, womp, guess I failed on that but at least I was considered for the opportunity.  Luckily my current job isn't horrible and I wasn't actively looking but had been recruited for the position, so it isn't like my livelihood was riding on getting the offer.
The Ugly:    our garden was doing really well and already have some goodies ready for consumption and then got home yesterday to find the youngest/newest dog we took in had attempted to destroy half of it.  Not happy about that, but looked like that damn dog enjoyed digging up half the stuff we have been trying to grow.  Damn dogs are lucky they are cute since they are such pains in the asses sometimes.

Erin,

Back in the 80's when the Sooners regularly beat Osborne's Huskers, I'd put $100 on the Sooners.  If the Huskers won I'd gladly pay the $100 to get the win.  If the Sooners won I'd still hurt badly, but the $100 would soften the blow a bit.

I interviewed for a different job a couple weeks ago as well.  Still waiting on the offer, or the call to say they offered someone else.

We are doing pretty well.  We had an unexpected family tragedy last January that hurt, no need for details, just not a good time.  The wife said she needed to move, so we not live in midtown Atlanta, which has been a very nice transition for us.  We're across the street from a large park and in walking distance of at least 50 restaurants and bars, and the symphony and art museum and a host of other stuff.  We're walking a lot, and I try and run some.
