Week 11
« on: November 08, 2021, 03:53:00 PM »
Welp, it is Championship November and we have a full slate of B12 games.

OU (-5.5) v Baylor.  Crucial game to the CCG.  Baylor is still alive if they win and OU takes a big hit.  Ex-OU QB Chandler Morris lit up Baylor's normally stout defense for over 400 yards last week.  I'll take the Sooners here but I'm sweating it.

KSU(-6) v WVU.  Stats for these teams are very similar but KSU is 6-4, WVU is 4-5. I'll take KSU but it wouldn't surprise me if WVU stands up and takes this.

TT v ISU(-10.5).  Tech is a double digit home dog, something I've been told is a dangerous thing. They could put a big hickey on ISU's CCG chances. I'll still pick the BiaBs.

UT(-30.5) v KU.  Can KU do the unthinkable again??? Nah.  Don't think the Horns will cover but do think they will win.

OSU(-13) v TCU.  Can TCU pull another upset?  Don't think so.  Cowboys win.

Thumper: Speaking of "Championship November," you remember the stupefying circumstances of the last OU loss in November?

I had to look it up.  I see Baylor beat us 42-14.  I don't remember the circumstances much.  Since Covid, my memory is pretty hit or miss.

I asked a bad question.  I thought it was the FoSu game in which Bob chose to take the 5-yard penalty and re-punt to Tarik Hill, who proceeded to run the football back 90-some yards for a TD.  But that game was actually in December.

In the Baylor game, which was in November, the Sooners led 14-3 after one quarter but got outscored 45-0 the rest of the way.

That year might have seen Bob's worst coaching job.

Along with the two losses mentioned above, he had lost to TCU and Kansas State earlier, and he finished with a blowout loss to Clemson in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

What was so disappointing about all that went wrong that season was that the Sooners were coming off their impressive victory over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

Yep.  That season was the end of Josh Heuple as OC but not for Mike Stoops as DC.  They both should have been gone.

Well, that was ugly.

But it's a loss that's been waiting to happen since the first game of the season.

I forgot that Mr. Tulip is a Baylor fan.
Congrats to you and your Bears, MT.  That is a good team and Dave Aranda can definitely coach football.

True dat.  The defense played hard but the offense was sleepwalking again.  I don't have any idea what would wake this team up.

Texas just lost to the Jayhawks in OT.  Texas scored first in OT, Hawks scored and made a 2 pt conversion for the win.

Tech beat ISU on a 61 yard (!!!) walk off FG.  ISU is out of the championship.

KSU beats WVU as expected.

OSU thumped TCU.

When you can run the ball and stop the opponent from running the ball, victory will usually follow.
When you can't do either, defeat will usually follow.  And it certainly did today.
Lincoln Riley seems to forget at times that the running game is a vital component of the offense.  Seems like he forgot about it while game-planning for Baylor.
Better that this team not make the CFP.  It would probably repeat the 2019 CFP experience with a blowout loss.  Maybe this team will earn that long-awaited invitation to the Alamo Bowl.

I have never seen a UT defense as bad as this one

it hurts me to watch
They won't let me give blood anymore. The burnt orange color scares the hell out of the doctors.
