Accepting bowl bids is obligatory???

That's news to me.

Didn't I read somewhere else that someone was covering those costs, essentially encouraging them to skip the bowls?  Why would someone do that?  It's hard enough to figure out why the team would do it.  The practice reps and game experience is valuable for all players returning.  EDIT:  Nevermind, I misread something on the B1G board and realized nobody is paying KSU and ISU to cover the costs of the fines.  I'm still surprised there are fines.

Yes of course there are fines.  It's in the conference's television contracts, that any team selected to be on TV, must appear on TV.  That goes for post-season as well as the regular season.  It's a school's obligation as a member of the conference, because it's the conference's obligation to the network partners.

Honestly I'm surprised the fine is only $500K.

the next one is going to be in College Station???

looking back or looking forward???

Hopefully, he's bringing a bunch of kids from College Station with him some day to Manhappy
Klein is going to continue his present job as OC for aTm through the playoffs.

I seriously do not know who would run the practices between now and whenever he gets here.

Lots of fans are up in arms over the decision.  I am not.  We already lost to Army, getting trucked by Navy in the same season would be a hard pill.  Maybe not as hard as the dipsticks that would travel to that game getting mugged in Memphis, but hopefully you're pickin up what I'm layin down.

well, the network takes the $500K and then broadcasts the game with the lesser conference member
unless there's not enuff with 6 wins to qualify

I think that's indicative of the payout from Memphis and Shreveport...

I am pretty sure we would have lost money going to play.  Already played a dumb game in Ireland this year, that set the tone for this season--a very flat and out of tune one.

Sure.  The tradeoff is that the network has to move down the line to a lesser team that presumably will draw fewer eyeballs.  There's a point where it's a net loss, and that's why there's a fine.

People always say this, and it's sort of true.  The bowls and the conference cover the team's basic costs, but it's always all of the leeches and hangers-on that drive up the price of attendance.  Minor functionaries, sycophantic boosters, etc.  If you just sent the team and the coaches, you wouldn't lose money.

Pretty sure the band and cheerleaders have always had to fund themselves on these things.  I know Longhorn Band did back in the day.  They had a couple of wealthy benefactors that would foot the cost of sending the band to the bowl games.

I see it completely the opposite.

The practice reps and game experience are valuable, whoever coaches the team.

As for showing up with a depleted roster, that's exactly what we did in 2021 against your team, with only 38 scholarship players, in a game the school attempted to cancel for safety reasons until the players convinced the higher-ups to let them play.  We had no QBs left on the roster, no rotation to speak of, and got our ass kicked, predictably, but 1) it was still great practice and experience for all the guys who later played on the next year's division-winning team, and 2) it was my favorite game of this entire god-forsaken era, because every kid who showed up did it because they wanted to put on the purple and gold and represent the state and the university, chances of victory be damned.  They knew what they were in for, and they did it anyway.  I couldn't be happier they played that "meaningless" game, and never felt happier about a beatdown.
I'm not sure practice reps for a system that has yet to be implemented, with players coming and going are all that beneficial.

In the case of K-State in 2025, I believe ending this shit show now is proper.  The team didn't even look all that interested in playing about half the games this year.  Flush it and start over.

Like I said, in the past, Snyder would have played a bowl game in Timbuktu to get extra reps.  Different times, which is an understatement.

I saw Baylor also declined a bowl.  Another game KSU absolutely blew this season.

Notre dame, too.

I suspect it's going to become a lot more common in the future.

Another new era development.

It's more important to work on raising money and managing the portal--dealing with agents and retention of present players along with bringing in new guys--than developing the walk-ons and 4th stringers (many of whom were sent packing with the new roster limitations anyway).

game in Ireland wasn't good luck for Scott Frost

Scott Frost attempted a memorable and controversial onside kick in the season-opening game of 2022 against Northwestern in Dublin, Ireland, with his Nebraska team leading 28-17 in the third quarter; the failed attempt gave Northwestern great field position, leading to a comeback win

I was really looking forward to all the good things that would happen in Lincoln after the hiring of Scott Frost.

But he managed to screw up by the numbers.

I still think the two best teams are Ohio State and Georgia.  Twill be interesting to see how the seeding works out.
I'm not sure why you think OSU is better than Indiana when Indiana beat them on the field, convincingly. Were you on the CFP committee?

I'm pretty sure the 2 best teams are IU and OSU, and pretty sure that's the final we will get for a rematch.
