I'm surprised OSU was that high

unfortunately, the stadiums aren't that large

Jack Trice Stadium is the second-largest stadium by capacity in the Big 12 Conference behind LaVell Edwards Stadium. Including hillside seats in the corners of the stadium, the facility's official capacity is 61,500.

Congrats to the Red Raiders.

I'll go out on a limb and project TTU as the #4 seed in the CFP.

I still think the two best teams are Ohio State and Georgia.  Twill be interesting to see how the seeding works out.

They have a new coach.  Some of their players will hit the portal, some new players will come from the portal.  IMO there is not enough continuity from the old staff to the new staff, old players to new, to be very meaningful.  I think this line of thinking is outdated.

In cases like this, maybe.

But when it's the same coaching staff and the young players are expected to stick around, then the bowl game practices are critical.  For example, I expect Texas will have a lot of opt-outs so the coaching staff is essentially going to be preparing next year's team.

I agree with the decision not to play.

As to our coaching staff, our coach has retired and the next one is going to be in College Station until at least Dec. 19/20.  How the hell would a practice and game prep even work?  I sure as hell hope most of the present staff will be seeking new jobs.  Recipe for potential disaster--chance to get best players hurt, and the "prestige" of getting beat by a Sunbelt team with a depleted roster and no continuity in coaching during a trip to Shreveport or Memphis.

In the "old" days, damn right the bowl prep time is great.  Not for this team with these circumstances.  Hell, I bet it would have cost the athletic department more than $500K to go to a crap bowl.  But who knows.

Accepting bowl bids is obligatory???

That's news to me.

Didn't I read somewhere else that someone was covering those costs, essentially encouraging them to skip the bowls?  Why would someone do that?  It's hard enough to figure out why the team would do it.  The practice reps and game experience is valuable for all players returning.  EDIT:  Nevermind, I misread something on the B1G board and realized nobody is paying KSU and ISU to cover the costs of the fines.  I'm still surprised there are fines.

I see it completely the opposite.

The practice reps and game experience are valuable, whoever coaches the team.

As for showing up with a depleted roster, that's exactly what we did in 2021 against your team, with only 38 scholarship players, in a game the school attempted to cancel for safety reasons until the players convinced the higher-ups to let them play.  We had no QBs left on the roster, no rotation to speak of, and got our ass kicked, predictably, but 1) it was still great practice and experience for all the guys who later played on the next year's division-winning team, and 2) it was my favorite game of this entire god-forsaken era, because every kid who showed up did it because they wanted to put on the purple and gold and represent the state and the university, chances of victory be damned.  They knew what they were in for, and they did it anyway.  I couldn't be happier they played that "meaningless" game, and never felt happier about a beatdown.
