regarding the open job at PSU

Is $30-40 million really accurate ?  I’ve seen numbers tossed around. I think I read that around $18-23 million is the average.
Can NU honestly support $30-40,000,000 in a state of only a few million people ?

I don't know if it's accurate but Rhule has a pretty good idea.

all it takes is a couple or one huge booster

unfortunately, Warren Buffet doesn't pay for football or he could easily triple that for the next 3 or 4 decades

Lot of talk about Texas Tech having that one huge booster. Former player under Leach, made it big in the oil field.

Cody Campbell.

The problem with having only one donor like that is, what happens if/when he gets bored or decides the ROI just isn't worth it?

But then again, Oregon hasn't had that problem, Knight will support that program until the day he dies.  So maybe Campbell will, too.

what happens when the one booster of LARGE substance decides he gonna call the shots and runs the program into the ground?

The athletics department could either accept the money and suffer the consequences of allowing that much control to a booster, or decline the money and accept the consequences of being irrelevant in the NIL/free agency era.

But so far, I don't think we've seen a case where one main booster ran a program into the ground.  For example, Phil Knight exerts a lot of influence but in general it's been positive for Oregon.

Isn't Phil Knight like 80+ years old?  Or late 70's?  Chances are he won't be around another 10 years.  Then what?  I wonder if his estate plans to support Oregon in the same manner?

Holy shit, I just looked it up.  Dude is 87.  He's way past his expiration date.

Yeah, I honestly think it's possible that the man is holding on, just so he can see Oregon win a football national championship.  It's interesting how much pure will can be associated with longevity, and also, once that will is gone, how quickly a person can pass away.

Like aging spouses, when one of them finally passes away, and then the other one dies within months or even weeks.

Might not have been a single booster at Nebraska but a very small group of them forced the AD to fire Solich back in the day

well, that's the rumor
they have significant influence

Well yeah, that sort of thing happens all over the country, and has for the last hundred years in college football.

I thought you were talking specifically to the point of how ONE single booster could run a program into the ground, not a group of boosters.  Groups of boosters mess up programs at the college (and high school) level, all the time.

just sayin, if a small group can do it, a single dude can certainly do it.

Sure. But to date, I don't recall any single mega-donor doing it, at any school of note.
