Well, I'm just going to sit tight and be a fan for now, but I can't see what Buchelle did to warrant not starting.  Given time to throw, he threads the needle.  Maybe it's his sore shoulder?  I haven't been keeping up.
Although all 3 were troubling - I would prioritize as defense, special teams, and then offense.
Or maybe just defense, defense, defense.
One day I would like to see us recruit a 6'3", 6'4" hoss QB instead of these 5'11" kids we keep trotting out there.

Hey BC,

It's doubtful Buechele will start simply because he's been injured all week and unable to practice.  Ehlinger has been working with the 1s.

I have heard a lot of different reports about Jerrod Heard.  I've heard he's splitting time at QB and receiver.  I've heard he's working with the 2s.  I've heard he's only practicing out of the wildcat.  I've heard he could possibly even start over Ehlinger.  Conjecture is all over the place.

I'd imagine Ehlinger will start and I suspect the coaching staff will have fewer qualms starting him against San Jose State than they would against USC.

Never meant that Buechele should not start

Hes just hurt thats all

I like Buechele but one of the biggest faults I found with Mack was that our 2nd string QB didnt

get enough game time to be ready just in case

Other than not pulling the trigger to his swing man on that first play sack, Buchele didn't do much wrong. He made the plays in the direction that the defense gave him. He won't ever be a power runner, so if that's what Herman wanted on 4th and short, using a receiver or Heard in the Wildcat would be the way to go in the future.

I need the OL to ask themselves how they're gonna come this season. This is the game to set that answer.

sure would be nice if we could reduce our OL holding penalties

I think that problem alone cost us 2 TDs last Sat

I'm also wondering about the TWO offensive pass interference penalties.
Is that a point of emphasis this season? One was hardly any contact at all, and the other was a usually acceptable release. Yes, they're pick plays, and could all be flagged, but just like holding, have historically enjoyed a lot of leeway.

The Big 12 kind of uses the WR switch as their calling card. If those are going to be removed, we'll need to rethink our strategies.

Defensive front line needs to stop the run and play up to its potential.   Is it our defensive front line or our secondary that is the detriment on defense?  Both were below average last weekend.

One of those picks was so poorly run that our receiver literally ran into their defender.  It was an obvious pick and gets called every time.  I think that was the one on the TD that got called back, which is why I remember it.

My contention is that the DL is trying to guess the play, the LBs are trying to guess what the DL is going to do, and the safeties are trying to guess what the LBs are going to do.
If everyone would trust their teammates and their coaches and execute the call, this crud would be largely cleaned up.
