The main thing to remember here is that "Sailing" did not feature Jeff Porcaro on drums as has been popularly thought down through the years, but rather Austin, TX drummer Tommy Taylor.

As long as people can keep that straight, I won't argue further  :)

And that's fair!

I'm all about the ATX musicians of course.

So my kids got into a lot of mid/late 70s classic stuff as a result of it being featured on the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtracks.  This morning, this song was blaring from one of their rooms upstairs:

Kids are now blasting a 70s tune that they did NOT discover through the GOTG sountracks, because I introduced them to it many years before that...

I feel like that song got, er....heavily borrowed from....for the instrumental classic E Minor Shuffle.  I don't actually know who wrote it, or when, because a lot of instrumental/jam groups have done it, but as far as I know the earliest recording was this James Newton Howard demo album for Yamaha's new (at that time) synth lineup.  Without boring you with details, I count like 5 things that are strikingly similar to ELO's Turn To Stone.  But this came out in the 80's, well after ELO's song.  Also, you being well-attuned to syncopation, you might get a kick out of a couple of the rhythmic structures here, which can temporarily faze a lesser listener.

And then later, Toto ripped off that song for their tune, On The Run.

I say "ripped off," but I don't mean in a dishonest way.  I'm sure they either had permission or possibly a couple of them may have written or co-written it with JNH.  OR.....co-stole it from ELO ~???
