I think it was released I just don't think it ever charted.  They also changed the arrangement and made it more upbeat and rock-y, the original version was apparently downbeat and bluesy.

Fun fact, one of my lifelong friends and old music buddies I've mentioned here is a nephew of the guy who produced this track.  He's a hot-shot in Nashville.....or was.  Probably retired now.  Got real irritated with me one summer when my buddy was visiting him and I was visiting Cali, and I called at night (way before cell phones).  He asked me if I knew what time it was, I said yes sir, it's 8 o'clock.  He said "Well it ain't here"    *click*

That's a handful of good albums that came with a lot of crap, compared to other, better years.'

Edited To Add:  And I was really looking more at the Billboard Top 40 chart for the year.  You've listed some excellent rock albums that never came anywhere close to charting singles.  I can certainly agree that there was a lot of really good album rock in the late 70s, but popular music was pretty... well... awful.

I'm not interested in pop music - but sometimes it's a crappy pop song that's stuck in my head and on my mind

The synth-pop classic "Pop Muzik" by the musical project M (led by English musician Robin Scott) officially hit the airwaves in 1979

The wife was chatting with the boy regarding his travel schedule last night. Started with "New York, London..."

I immediately bolted out of the kitchen and yelled, "...Paris, Munich, EVERYBODY TALK ABOUT - *POP MUSIK*!!!"
